Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Complete and Utter Nonsensical Brilliance

Went watching this film this morning with my 9 year old son and wow did we enjoy it. We have watched all the recent Godzilla and Kong films and enjoyed then all, but this film knocks them all out of the park. Now I am not saying this is an Oscar winning classic or a film for everyone but for the genre, Monster v Monster action movie, this cannot be beaten.

The action / fight scenes just don't stop throughout the entirety of the film. The Monsters Kong and Godzilla come up against throughout the film are all different each time meaning the film brings to life a wide variety of different species / titans for the duo to battle against. This means no one battle is the same and it is not the same two species fighting over and over again. Next, the story might be nonsensical but it keeps the movie moving throughout and it explains everything to keep all viewers in the loop. But let's be honest you don't go watching films like this one for the story, you go to be entertained and this film definitely does that.

The Beekeeper (2024)

Brilliant Fun

What a great film. If you like the John Wick franchise and you love no nonsense action this is the film for you.

Jason Statham is brillant as the one man killing machine who is just unstoppable in the most casual way possible. Once the action starts it never stops with some of the.scenes are brutally brilliant.

As always I don't understand who watches films like this and can openly give it a poor rating. After watching the trailer it was obvious the film was going to be a no nonsense action film, and it delivered no questions asked. So if this type of film is not your cup of tea why watch it.

Utterly brilliant and a must watch for those who love action films.

Meg 2: The Trench (2023)

Utter Chaos but so Entertaining

Before you decide to watch this film ask yourself this; do I need a believable plot to enjoy a film? If the answer is yes then this movie is not for you. However if the answer is NO , strap yourself in for an 1hr 1/2 of utter bonkersness which will leave you smiling for days.

Like my son put it, the Meg 2 is like the demon love child of Meg 1, Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible. Put it simply they have create an utterly chaotic masterpiece. The action after about 20min never stops and it just keeps coming and coming with you never knowing what is going to happen next. Yes it is far fetched and it doesn't make sense at times but is a fantastic watch and so much fun.

Extraction II (2023)

Action Packed Brilliance

I have to completely agree with all the people who have written a review of this film and given it 9 / 10. It is an action packed masterpiece. The fight scenes are immense especially the two 30 minute ones in the prison and in Vienna.

Some people have compared the Extraction films to the John Wick franchise and I have to agree again with them. Like John Wick the story is not great but the out and out action is mind blowing. This is what actions films are all about and this has buckets loads of it. I just don't understand the people / critics who have criticised the film as what were they expecting a musical.

If you are an action film fan like me this is a much watch. So happy to hear they are making a 3rd film.

Black Adam (2022)

Very Entertaining

Just watched Black Adam with my son and have to say we really enjoyed it. Dwayne Johnson is outstanding as the anti-hero Black Adam and is supported by some other excellent acting performances especially from Pierce Brosnan. The ex James Bond actor is brilliant as Dr Fate (DC's version of Dr Strange) and even though the hero's used within the film are not your average household names they are used brilliantly in tandem with Johnson's character. There is lots and lots of action which we both loved which is a breathe of fresh air from other hero films recently which seem to forget they are meant to fun and action packed rather than completely story driven.

I am slightly disappointed to hear that DC do not plan to make a Black Adam 2 as I think they have a good opportunity to create a great franchise. If they do not plan a sequel I just hope they plan to use Black Adam is other future DC films.

National Treasure: Edge of History (2022–2023)

Absolute Gold

I completely don't understand all the negative reviews of this show. Me and my son have watched all 10 episodes and we love it. Those who wrote a review back in December after 1 episode need to watch it all. The series has lots of twists and turns especially in the final two episodes.

The actors are very good and Catherine Zeta Jones is an excellent villain. The story is very realistic and believable and sets the stage well for future series.

If the rumours are true and Nicolas Cage is going to play Benjamin Gates in season 2 it should be epic. Don't listen to the hate and give it a watch as it is amazing!1.

Wednesday (2022– )

Absolutely Brilliant Entertainment

Started watching the series on Sunday night at about 7, by Monday night I had watched all 8 episodes. That is how absorbing the show/story is. The story is brilliant and the performances from all the actors are excellent. A special shout out has to however go out to Jenna Ortega who is absolutely amazing as Wednesday. She must win awards for the truly absorbing performance that she produces.

Then there is 'Think'. How the show includes 'Think' and uses him to such a great effect is just inspiring. Like I previously said the story is amazing with lots of misleads and misdirection's throughout the series. The writers should be proud of what they came up with and hopefully a second series has to be in the pipeline. A must watch for everyone!

Violent Night (2022)

Utterly Bonkers!!

I have just got back from the cinema after watching Violent Night and have decided I have to write a review as soon as possible. To start off with if you are not a action / violent film fan do not watch this film. If you are however this is a must watch. It is basically John Wick as Santa.

The film is completely bonkers with the action scenes so brutally violent and fun. You will spent most of the time either laughing or cringing in pain as the actions just keeps coming and coming. The story is simple but brilliant and David Harbours performance as Santa is truly brilliant. Finally a film that challenges John Wick for brutality.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022– )

Tolkien fanatics will hate it but the rest of us should like it

I asked one of my best friends last week had he started watching 'The Rings of Power' and he said he had and it was utterly rubbish. However he is a Tolkien fanatic having head all the books and knows all the history pre Hobbit/ Lord of the Rings, so I kind of knew what he was going to say.

So I decided to watch it myself with a more open mind, as a film lover who has watched both Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. I would have to say it is not all bad and very much worth a watch for anybody who is a fan of the films. I have spoken to several family members as well who had not watched it due to some bad reviews however on my recommendation they started watching it and have really enjoyed it. Yes it's a bit slow at times but it was bound to be. I read yesterday that they have written a 50 hour storyline so it was never going to go at a frantic pace. But if you stay with it and give it a chance you will really enjoy it.

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Going out with a BANG!

Really enjoyed this film. Full of nostalgia and action which me my son loved. Seen other reviews slagging off the story and saying it was predictable, but apart from the first Jurassic Park film all the other Jurassic Park films have not had great stories.

The actions scenes are great, especially the lengthy one in Malta, loved it. Also the addition of some other different dinosaurs was great to see. I personally thought it was a great movie and can't wait to watch it again.

Great Film, Don't Know Why People are Complaining

Again, as I always say when other people write terrible reviews about films that are actually really good, watch it for yourself and you decide.

This is a great film from the very start with loads of action and intrigue. Yes Wanda is in it and she plays a key role in the film but the main forums is still around Dr Strange, who is again played excellently by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Personally I think it is one of the better Marvel films, probably the best for a couple of years. Don't listen to all the negative nellies and give this film a watch, you won't regret it.

Fistful of Vengeance (2022)

All Action Follow-up to Wu Assassins

As always, and I don't know why I keep doing it, but I read some reviews for Fistful of Vengeance before first watching Wu Assassins and then this film. Trust me don't be put off the film because of some none action film fans decided to review a film they were never going to enjoy. Wu Assassins wasn't great, I have to agree with that, but it was watchable and at least in watching it first it gave me an understanding of what was going on in the film. However this film is far better than the series and people should not be put off if they did not enjoy the series. Honestly give it a go, it's action packed and fun.

Like I said previously, I always read reviews to see what other people have thought but always end up watching the film whether it has good or bad reviews anyway. I am not saying this film is outstanding, the best action film ever but it is very enjoyable. There is loads and loads of action, so if you are an action junky like me it is a must see. Some of the fight schemes are brutal and to be honest there are so many of them you never get chance to relax before more is coming your way. So glad I watched it. Honestly if you like action, especially that with loads of martial arts in, this is definitely a film for you.

Eternals (2021)

Far, Far Better Than I Expected

Just watched Eternals and was presently surprised. After watching the trailer months ago I thought the film looked dull so held off watching it until it's release on Disney+ today. How wrong was I! The film is really good and kept me interested all the way through. The characters are all good and the story is interesting and believable. After being disappointed with some of marvels latest films, especially End Game and Black Widow, I was not left disappointed with this. I would have to say this is one of the better marvel films I have seen and can't wait for the second film and how marvel will follow on from this film in its future movies.

Infinite (2021)

Don't get the hate for this film

Decided to give the film a go the other day despite reading some of the negative reviews. After watching it I just could not understand all the hate people have for it. Mark Wahlberg gave a typical Mark Wahlberg performance, don't know what people expected. He plays his character well and the supporting cast is also good. The film has a good story with plenty of exciting action scenes. If you like action films like me it is definitely worth a watch. Very enjoyable.

Tomb Raider (2018)

Does the Games Proud

Really good action film which never misses a beat. Very clever with no sci-fi / unrealistic twists and turns which other films throw into the mix. Alicia Vikander puts Angelina Jolie's performance of Lara Croft to shame. Bring on the sequel. A must see for all action film junkies and Tomb Raider (computer game) fans.

Major Grom: Plague Doctor (2021)

Very Entertaining

Watched this after reading the reviews. I agree with the people who give this 7 stars or above. The film is very entertaining and is a very good story. I think the twist is very good and the action schemes are great. I think all the people who dislike the film expected it to be like a Marvel superhero film but it does not try to be. It is different which obviously some people don't like, but if you like action films this is another great watch by Netflix.

Birds of Prey (2020)

Absolutely Bonkers!!

Have read some of the negative reviews of this film and just don't understand were they are coming from. The film is fast paced, funny and full of action. Yes it is a bit bonkers but that is what makes it fun. If you like your action and are brave enough to see some girls kicking ass for a change this is a great film to watch. It is not John Wick but it is good none the less.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

What a waste of 3 hours of my life!

Last week I wasted 3 hours of my life watching the latest Avengers movie End Game. I am a massive Marvel fan and have loved most of the movies up to now. Lots of action and fun. What has gone wrong. I was looking forward to this film so much but was so disappointed. If you want action and fun go watch John Wick 3, Wow that is a film especially compared to this dribble.

Were do I start. At the start, or should I say for the first 30 min all the characters are depressed and feeling sorry for themselves. Then they mention time travel, yes time travel. I mean after all Marvels great films and ideas the best they could come up with to get things back to normal was time travel. What next, Ironman (Robert Downey Jr) wakes up back in Ironman 1 and the last 20 years have all been a dream aka Dallas style. Come on give me a break the best they could come up with was time travel. Anyway 1 1/2 hours into the film I turned to my friend and said the last 1 1/2 hours must be amazing as this has been so boring and all the reviews say this is a great movie. To my disappointment it did not get much better. In the 3 hours of running time there is at a push 30 minutes of action and that is at a push. The rest is just a load of rubbish.

So disappointed, won't be wasting my hard earned money on Marvel again.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)

Wow!!!!

Last week I wasted over 3 hours of my life watching "Avengers End Game". I was so disappointed with the lack of action and fun. Fast forward a week and having just watched John Wick 3 the only thing I can say is WOW! From the get go it is action all the way, with Keanu Reeves at his brilliant best. The film never lets up, but unlike some out and out action films this has a really good and intriguing plot. As others have said in their reviews the choreography of the fight scenes is just mind blowing and when you think the action will stop for a bit it just goes again. Fight after fight, it is just amazing.

Avengers End Game might make all the headlines this year with the money it makes but it is not a patch on John Wick 3. Any action film lover has got to watch this film. It will leave you smiling from ear to ear. All I have left to say is bring on John Wick 4!!!

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Don't be put off by the Critics!!

Just watched this film on NETFLIX. Was not expecting much but I have to say, what a good watch. Really enjoyed the film. Can't believe it got slammed by all the critics. If you like films like serenity and Star Trek then you will enjoy this film. The action and story are good, and so what about the sad little romance throughout the film, it helps you understand the bond between the main two characters.

Really enjoyed the film and hope you give it a go.

Dante's Peak (1997)

Great then, still great now!

First watched Dante's Peak when it was released in 1997 and as a kid thought it was brilliant. Just watched it again and I have to say, wow. It is a great film, full of entertainment and action. Yes it is cheesy at times and bits are a bit far fetched e.g. driving over lava, but putting that a side it is a fantastic film.
