1408 (2007)
It's Safe To Check In
13 July 2007
When I heard Stephen King's short story 1408 from Everything's Eventual was being turned into a full length movie, I had doubts. Most of Stephen's work can't be transfered onto the big screen correctly. Sure, it wasn't exactly like the book, but it was still great. John Cusack's acting was right on the mark. He gave a strong performance which helped the movie flow. Although Samuel Jackson didn't have a lot of screen time, he did a great job as the manager of the Dolphin Hotel. The plot is very fresh and creative. There aren't just a bunch of ghost, the room itself plays a role in making the guest go mad. The plot even gets to see John's character's background unravel as he loses his mind. Most horror films these days are very clichéd and boring, this one isn't. There are many twist that will catch you by surprise like they did to me. At one point you'll drop your jaw thinking the film makers pulled an easy one on you, but you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by the true outcome of this film. Don't leave until the credits begin to roll. You'll know what I mean when you see the film. So go ahead and check in to see 1408; its an effective ghost story.

Grindhouse (2007)
Good Enough To Be Called Epic!
7 April 2007
Rodriguez and Tarantino join forces to make a homage to exploitation films of the 70's and 80's. This film turns out to be one of the best films I have ever seen. The whole movie is very long because there are two films: Planet Terror and Death Proof. Also, at the beginning and between the films are fake trailers by Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, and Robert Rodriguez. My favorite being Eli Roth's THANKSGIVING.

PLANET TERROR...

is the first film. It's a zombie film. People are infected and eaten all through the film. It is filled with over the top violence and gore. It evens has some very funny moments thrown in for fun. My favorite character is Cherry Darling - the stripper with the machine gun for a leg! There is a lot of gore and disturbing scenes. Overall Planet Terror is a great nonstop action/zombie flick.

DEATH PROOF...

is, of course, the second film. It is about Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) a man who kills people using his Chevy Nova and Dodge Charger (one is crashed). He attempts to kill a group of young girls test driving a car, but fails. The girls then proceed to get bloody revenge on Mike. Although, it does not have nonstop action as the first, it is still great. This film has better character development than Planet Terror. Death Proof also has one of the best car chase scenes ever! Everyone in my theater was cheering on The Girls at the end of the film.

This film is worth every penny. It may even be the most entertaining film of the year. This film is on my DVD buying list.

Happy Feet (2006)
A Wonderful Film That Can Open Eyes.

If you just thought this film was about dancing penguins, you're wrong. This film is a great family film that has complex messages. It is in musical form.

When it begins we learn what happened to Mumble, that makes him tap dance and not sing. His father is ashamed of him, but his mother is not. As he grows, he looks different from the other penguins. Later, he mets Spanish - like penguins that are a hight light to the film because they add to the humor. As the story goes on, we learn there are less fish and the water is filled with garbage. Because of us humans, penguins are in danger.

The characters are all great and the animation is wonderful and very detailed. It is funny and it even has messages. It teaches us to accept who we are. It also tells us that the environment is in danger, but in a fun and entertaining way. This film beats Monster House and Cars as the best animated film of the year.

The Grudge 2 (2006)
It's OK.

Although the blue, black - haired ghost plot has been done, this film is enjoyable. People took things too seriously. I took this as a popcorn film. The acting could have been better with some characters. Sarah Michelle Gellar did a pretty good job, although she has little screen time. The effects and scares are most of the time pop - ups. The story is a bit messy and has too many things happening at the same time. Some moments are also rather stupid. There are pretty good scares throughout the whole film. I would recommend this film to all fans of the first. If your not a fan, don't see it; you'll most likely hate it.

Rated PG - 13 for mature thematic material, disturbing images/terror/violence, and some sensuality

Funny Movie!

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby was a great comedy. It was funny, smart, and it even had morals. (somewhat)

Ricky Bobby was basically born in a speeding Mustang and for the rest of his life has loved everything about speed (and has based his life on what his father told him " Either you finish first or you finish last"). When older he is always 1# in the Nascar Races (with the help of another racer). But when a French racer comes to America, Ricky is put to the test with the help of his mother, sons, and his drug - dealing father.

This film is pretty enjoyable I would recommend it to anyone who likes somewhat dumb comedies.

Monster House (2006)
A Great and Funny Film
30 July 2006
It was a really great kid's 'horror'film.

The plot is well - written. {You can't see that from the trailers because it would have spoiled the ending} It has humor for kids, adults, and even teenagers! Now, just because it's an animated film, does not make it OK for young children. There are scene which some people might call "intense for children". The plot deals with things like murder, death, and even puberty. I am a teenager so I found this film very funny. Since, I've seen real horror films I didn't find it really suspenseful, but again younger kids might.

The ending is great. It's a huge twist. You think the films going one way, but it makes a turn. I also found the ending sad, but happy in a way.

I think this film beats Cars for the title of the years's (so for) best family film!

A Great Laugh and Scream

Warning: Spoilers
When I saw the trailer for this the first time I just thought it was going to be another cheap horror movie. HOW WRONG I WAS!!!! Just saw it the first day it came out and let me tell you was it great. The acting, the special fx, the creature make - up, and the plot.

It had a great plot which is hard to find in these kinds of film. The story kept flowing and went along great.

The gore was state - of - the art. It's scares vary from cheap shots to heart - pounding suspense. The violence was very cool too.

They show many deaths and can get quite disturbing at many time(like the part where the infected people went to Grant Grant and got on top of him and became a part of him) (also when the lady got so fat that she filled up a barn, these slugs ,from inside her, tear out of her and blood flies everywhere) It was also very funny and had great one - liners! It is a great horror/comedy film.
