Gehraiyaan (2022)
7-7.5/10 actually
I don't review a lot of movies, but this movie deserves review, if not for its excellent story-telling, then maybe to detract from negative review-bombers.
From my perspective, the movie is about people and their complex interactions which are as fragile and light as cotton. We hold onto these connections and live our lives. They makes us happy; they make us angry; they make us sad. This movie is about complex characters who affect each other in different ways including adultery, love, betrayal, and kindness. It's an excellent, tense watch. The movie has been designed to feel like these characters are sinking under the weight of their own choices. That's why I recommend that you give this movie at least a chance. Don't think about the elite setting. Think about the story, and I think you will might like it too.
Shaitaan Haveli (2018)
One of the best series in its genre in Indian series landscape
The series probably is misunderstood for what it is. It's a parody of the classic Ramsey brother horror movies. The series is self-aware of what it is, and goes meta all the time. On the 1st episode, the conversation between Harriman and his secretary Gangu already lays the groundwork that this series is a homage to classic horror films, and that general audience might not understand it. It's not a Community or It's Always Sunny, by any means, but for an Indian series in this specific genre, it is quite an accomplishment. The show has issues; specifically, the story is not quite coherent. The characters, however, are well-written for what the series is all about, and almost everyone gets a chance to shine. The series is an undiscovered gem, I think.
