Whisper (2022)
Effort was there...
Whisper, directed by Christopher Jolley, has one of those classic premises that can be taken in so many different directions. The basic premise : a home health nurse is called in last minute to care for a patient in an isolated house. While there are a couple of jump scares and despite the limitations in budget they try to make an original film. Unfortunately, they don't quite succeed. The dash of social realism in justifying why the character doesn't just leave is always welcome as it brings horror closer to home and helps suspend disbelief. It's a shame because the effort shows. Filming in front of blank boring walls never cuts it for me.
First Annual Barbecue (2014)
A good fan movie for the TCM fans
The acting in this film is indie good. The entire cast has a great camera presence but lacked experience in front of the camera. They all have the talent to make acting a career for them all if they just had the drive to do so. I really enjoyed the cast. The story for this short is almost the same as the first half of the original TCM but not as disturbing. Instead of grotesque shots of roadkill and radio transmissions of mass graves being found we are given beautiful shots of a crisp blue sky, clean teens with no sweat (all the characters in the original TCM has sweat stains showing how hot Texas really is), and clean cut characters with the exception of Leatherface, or the killer as he is labelled on imdb.com. The film lacked all the elements that made the original so much fun.
Toothfairy 2 (2020)
Let's give it a chance
What we have is a tiresome rethread of every ghostly/imaginary monster/demonic story ever told in a painfully slow way. It's less a horror and more of a family drama which does not make good viewing even if Claire-Maria Fox tries her hardest to light up the screen.
