Mafia Mamma (2023)
It really surprised me in a good way
Watching the trailer I thought it was going to be a really typical cheap comedy and I was giving it a shot because of Tony Collette, but it turned out to be great at action, special effects, really funny, unpredictable and filled with great groofy and funny characters. It was a pleasure watching the sights in italy and listening to the actors speaking real italian. I've always seen Tony Collete in more serious roles and dramas, but I had a really fun time watching her do comedy. I fell in love with many -I guess local- actors that made me laugh. The action surprised me too, some scenes are reall badasss.
The Play on One: Separation (1990)
Loved it
I was flipping through the TV channels among big budget movies which I don't care for or have seen a million times when I caught this movie, which had just started. Immediately the conversation between these two characters made get out of my uninterested state and I started to try and understand who they were and why were they arguing over the phone.
I learned that they were really far apart and they were arguing about the reasons why she hadn't visited him yet. Things got heated up in the conversation between these two characters, with shouts and recriminations, and in the peak of the tension between them I was expecting this scene to end in a routine kind of way, with either of them hanging up and storming off. They didn't. From there, you enter in the lives of these two people who try hard to get intimate over the phone, but it's only at first when you think the physical distance is what keep them apart. That's what this movie makes you feel: how personal personal relations are, and how different is to talk to a person... in the flesh.
Now, in a more technical review, the acting seems a bit too theatrical for me, but in spite of that there were scenes that really got me. I admit for the most part I liked the dialogs/script/story more than the actual scenes, but I think it is due to the short runtime of the film, it passes really quick. It is so condensed that I had to watch it twice to fully get the story and enjoy the acting. It is full of metaphors and subtle insinuations. The replay value is high, all in all worth watching.
Movies that reminded of this movie are: Tape (2001), Before Sunset (2004) , Love Letters (1999), When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Dynamite Headdy (1994)
Get over the first impression
The first time I played this game I thought it was awful: They were too many colors, too many moving objects, too many everything. I decided to give it a second try after reading recommendations in forums, and soon I discovered that after playing a couple of levels, this 'ugly' game turned into an all time favorite of mine. The game is way too unique, each level has different rules and scenarios, many creative and charismatic characters, and of course and excellent excellent music. Some notes: -It was after beating the 3rd boss that I fell in love with this game. -It has lots of hidden secrets. -the Japanese version differs from the US version when it come to character designs, basically, the US version replaced dolls with robots. -I found a lot of interesting data about this game on the net (including text translations of the Japanese version and info about it).
