The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Kids will like it but that's about it
As an adult who grew up with mario games, I was hoping this was going to be more than a generic cash grab filled with references and cutesy gags. Unfortunately, it was exactly as shallow and dull as it looked like. Chris Pratt sucks and I really wish hollywood would stop putting him in movies. Everyone is sick of Chris Pratt. Stop it. The rest of the cast was good but I'd rather see a movie with real voice actors than hollywood actors shoved into voice acting. Ever since Aladdin, hollywood stopped hiring real voice actors and instead chose to shove actors into roles they aren't fit for to sell more tickets. Watch the Dungeons and Dragons movie instead. It's way better and has actual emotional weight and things to say aside from being funny and way better than this mario movie.
Cade: The Tortured Crossing (2023)
Once in a generation a movie comes along that blows your socks off!
The movie is Cade: The Tortured Crossing. But the only one who is tortured is me, for living this long without seeing this movie until now.
Neil Breen has already proven himself to be one of the greatest directors of all time long before he made Cade: The Tortured Crossing (2023).
But now, he's cemented himself as a legend of filmmaking with great hair and the acting chops needed to get the job done.
My only complaint is that there weren't enough phones being thrown around recklessly in this one.
I enjoyed the film, Cade: The Tortured Crossing from beginning to end. It's thought provoking, well acted and a total thrill ride.
Moonraker (1979)
Best James Bond movie
Reasons this is the best James Bond movie:
1. Jaws is the best character in any Bond film besides Bond. He is so menacing and strangely silent for most of the movie and he has a real interesting arc.
2. The comedy is top knotch in this one. So many goos one liners and gags.
3. This is a real globetrotting adventure. The variety of locales adds a lot.
4. This is a well paced bond movie that doesn't drag in the middle as so many do. There are great set pieces all throughout.
5. The space lasers and cheesy models have aged hilariously and only added to the movies charms.
6. Roger Moore is so dry and matter of fact that it balances out all the outlandish elements of the movie.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
Best totally true movie with nothing exaggerated
This is the best comedy to come out in years. I saw it twice and both times I hurt from laughing so much. Evan Rachel Wood and Dan Radcliffe were both incredible. I grew up loving Weird Al Yankovic and his other movie, UHF. UHF holds up well enough but this biopic is a dream come true.
At a story telling level, it was well crafted and well paced. Biopics can get really messy because they are based on real people whose lives often take lots of complicated twists and turns that can be hard to fit in a typical hollywood script structure. But this movie brilliantly avoids those traps while delivering lots of laughs throughout.
