Dip huet seung hung (1989)
Unmissable Benchmark of Action Cinema
This is hands down the best action film I've ever seen. Visually compelling from start to finish.
It contains many of the action film cliches we've grown so accustomed to but presents them in a way that feels fresh and exhilarating. Every cinematic trick worked flawlessly on me.
The combat scenes are so well choregraphed. Literally edge of your seat shout at the screen good.
The music was great. The dialogue was entertaining. Everything about it is stellar. This film was everything I hoped for and so much more. You need to see this.
(I watched this with subtitles and was glad I did. The dialogue was easy to follow and didn't hinder the action.)
Bande de filles (2014)
Stunning
A beautiful coming of age film. It captures the highs and lows of youth and the pressures that come with falling in with the wrong crowd so tastefully. I've seen plenty of films like this but very few that were so unpretentious. It was gritty, emotional, uplifting and engaging at the same time. It avoided the pitfalls of many crime/gang films and leaves you to come to your own conclusions about the characters and their choices. Rather than dwelling on a bleak existance it encapsulates the feeling of belonging that often defines peoples youth.
