Ms. Marvel (2022)
Surprisingly Enjoyable
While it did have a little bit of a Disney channel vibe at certain points, Ms. Marvel manages to introduce some awesome comic like storytelling and visuals. Given that this review is really only based on the first episode I'm not assuming I will or won't enjoy the rest of the show, but based on the pilot I'm looking forward to the rest. Based on all the recent marvel releases (NWH, Moon Knight, MoM) I have a feeling or at least a hope that the the darker tone phase 4 has had up to this point will not be entirely absent from this show. Time will tell.
Nowhere, Michigan (2017)
Decent
This movie was advertised in our local paper, so we decided to check it out. The story is a little bare, and missing thrills. There's a lot of Fargo influence for the villains, and the Michigan accents are leaning more towards Minnesota or Canada. The character motivations are somewhat murky, and that can make this story a little difficult to get invested in, but it has its moments.
Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule (2010)
The Perfect Public Access Parody
This show has grown to become one of my favorite shows on adult swim, and in general. It's got a Tim and Eric vibe, while developing the character of Steve Brule into a hilarious and lovable host. This spinoff brings the low budget magic of 80s public access TV full circle, while adding its own brand of comedy. Tim and Eric fully utilize John C. Reilly's talents to create one of the the goofiest, most off kilter shows ever conceived. The only complaint I have is that it ended too soon.
Moonbase 8 (2020)
Very Dry, Promising So Far
Moves a little slowly. Considering it's the first season I'm not expecting too much. That being said, what you get is a group of awkward, dry comedy, that suits the cast delivering it.
Bad Trip (2021)
On Brand and Off The Rails
This movie is very reminiscent of the Eric Andre Show, with a plot that peppers in some ridiculous stops, and a few lulls while keeping things moving. While his comedy special may have been hit or miss, this movie will definitely appeal to Eric Andre Fans, and is only boosted by Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish. Included are some excellent reactions, and the maniacal glee of Andre shows in the script which, while slightly toned down compared to his show, still works.
