Colossal (2016)
It has been a while since I've seen this, but I think I need to review it.
And all I really want to say is that I thought this movie was great. Really original. Really good. A solid 9.
The Perfection (2018)
It's Hard to Know how to Rate This Film
The production quality and acting are 100% excellent. The story itself is so implausible and just didn't make enough sense for me. On the other hand, the film maintains interest (certainly not boring). So...ten stars for top-notch production and acting. Minus five stars for a somewhat ridiculous plot. Then I added a star because it kept my interest until the end. I hope that helps!
Bokeh (2017)
I don't understand all these bad reviews
Bokeh was made by a small film company, but you could never tell by watching it. The quality of the film is top-notch. If you aren't the sort of person who likes art films, indie films, or contemplative films, then, okay, this may not be the one for you. But the cinematography is amazing, the actors are just as good as any, and the story really kept my interest throughout. The film is thought-provoking and allows viewers to imagine the what-ifs. What if I were in that situation? What would I do? What is the nature of our existence? I really thought this was a great film and worth a watch. Especially if you've been to Iceland.
The Interior (2015)
So Scary, But Not in The Way You Might Expect
I am astonished by the lackluster reviews I'm seeing here. I thought The Interior was one of the scariest movies I've seen in a long time and utterly engaging. The part in the forest (which is most of the movie) was by far the most interesting bit, but I mean, somebody on here said there was no tension. I felt like the forest part of the film was just tension after tension after tension, and more tension. I was watching the film late at night, and I should have been going to sleep, but I was too engaged and had to keep watching. This movie was listed as a thriller, but I would consider it mild horror. I will say that there were many times I had to watch between my fingers or squint my eyes because I was afraid of what I might see. The writer/director, Trevor Juras, really knows how to scare you without splashing violence across the screen. The best and most effective kind of scare.
In any case, I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll just close by saying I really hope the filmmaker gets the recognition he deserves. This was a piece of top-notch storytelling as far as I'm concerned. Well done.
A Ghost Story (2017)
So Good I felt the Need to Purchase It!
This film is an absolute masterpiece. Yes, it's true that the first 1/2 hour or so of the movie required a lot of patience. Patience I was willing to give because I was hoping there was a payoff. And boy-oh-boy was there a payoff. Just an absolutely beautiful and unique story with great cinematography and truly deep meaning.
