Good presentation
7 August 2010
I disagree with the previous review by ccthemovieman-1

I have viewed this episode at least twice and think it was a good representation of the Man, Robert Johnson, as well as his music and the Delta region during that time period.

Naturally there was much superstition involved since someone started the rumor that Johnson had "sold his soul to the devil". ONLY superstitious people would have spread such a rumor, and the fact that it was largely accepted in the region is proof that there was a lot of superstition about the man himself, as well as about "The Devil", (who was actually created by Christianity.) I believe this sort of superstition is common to the African folktales that were brought to the Delta region by Slaves.

I did not feel the movie was "Anti-Religious" at all, I think it was an honest portrayal of how folks in that area and in that time period were divided. They generally believed that either you were considered "God-Fearing" and went to church, or you didn't go and were considered to be heathen. That, I feel, is a fact.

As far as religion goes, it's always been my experience that those who claim to be Christian are the first ones to be so eager to judge others and give negative comments. I myself am Caucasian, and I like the way Paul narrated those shows!

Since ccthemovieman-1 made such a point to name Paul Winfield. I wonder if he is prejudiced toward Gays and/or African-Americans, like many Self-Proclaimed "Christians", who are anything but "Christlike", so quick to condemn anyone who is "different" from THEM! That, too, is a FACT.

I do hope that the Biography Channel will consider updating the material and sticking more closely to Mr. Johnson's family's interpretations for a newer show on "Biography", so we could get a better sense of Robert Johnson's personality and experiences, though I personally do feel that this episode was presented well.

House of Payne (2006– )

Great Family show
16 January 2008
Not that it's relevant, but I am a 62-year old Caucasian woman.

I started watching "House of Payne" when it debuted and I am in love with the show and the characters, the plots are believable and I can relate to the characters. The actors do not look artificial, they look like people you know and love, which makes it easy to be drawn into the plots. I feel more like a participant than a viewer.

The show has good comedic appeal, very funny situations with great lines, yet addresses serious social problems that all human beings face at some point.

I feel the "House of Payne" show is a great help to kids in particular, most especially for those who may not have a good home life. They can learn good values from this show.

I think Tyler Perry is a brilliant writer, he is intelligent, very clever and observant of humanity in all aspects. This show should get an Emmy!

I never miss the show, and often go back and re-watch it On Demand. In my opinion, it's one of the few sitcoms that is worth multiple viewings.

For those of you who didn't like it, maybe you just didn't understand his presentation. I would recommend this show to everyone.

Wild Hogs (2007)

They got the adventure they wished for!
7 October 2007
I thought the movie was hilarious, it's "Blazing Saddles meets Easy Rider" sort of humor, Four middle-aged guys bored with life, looking for adventure to break the monotony. I thought the actors portrayed their characters with authenticity.

I especially liked the scene of John Travolta (Woody) and William Macy (Dudley) practicing dancing together. Yes, as mentioned before, some scenes were somewhat predictable, but I got what I wanted, which was a lot of laughing out loud. It's entertainment, folks, we don't always need a meaningful script. Sometimes we just want silliness to escape from reality, and these guys handled it with finesse.

I'm sure they had a great time filming, and "behind the scenes" is probably where the REAL action was!Except for a few profanities and partial nudity, it may be acceptable for some kids to watch.

A bittersweet love story, great scenery, interesting characters
18 March 2006
This movie is very well done, it is a bittersweet love story and the acting is superb. I thought it to be very artsy and tasteful as well as containing a subtle undercurrent of socio-political comment. Somewhat reminiscent of Love Story, but with great music!

A young banker loses his Mother, and on the way to scatter her ashes at her preferred location meets a woman whose car has broken down. She cons him into giving her a lift and they spar a bit, eventually falling in love. He ends up taking extra time off from work and gets demoted upon his return, and eventually gives up banking altogether to pursue a music career. There are surprise twists so I wouldn't want to say too much and spoil it for those who have not seen it. I would buy this movie as well as watch it again and I recommend it to anyone who has ever had a great love.

Office Space (1999)

A great movie for anyone, but particularly for office workers!
14 January 2006
This is one of the few movies I can watch countless times without being bored. It's just as funny the tenth time as it was the first. The stereotypes of office workers are so well characterized. The plot is believable, there are other elements besides comedy that only enhance the comedic elements. My favorite scene is when Peter, Michael & Samir are destroying the evil Fax machine. Who hasn't worked in an office that can't identify with a machine like that? Jennifer Aniston and Ron Livingston, as well as David Herman, Ajay Naidu, Diedrich Bader & Stephen Root all gave a wonderful performance and the chemistry between all of them was fantastic. I think this film is vastly UNDER-rated!!
