Ooru Peru Bhairavakona (2024)
Refreshing fantasy movie
A fresh concept interjecting the genres of socio fantasy, drama, comedy thrillers. Not boring at all. Worth a watch for fun. The action of all the actors is on par. Great acting by Sandeep Kishan. Music is good. Background score is good. Clean movie without any unnecessary vulgarity. Movie worth watching with family. Reminds old Telugu movies with similar socio fantasy concepts.
No unnecessary songs in-between to drag the story. Both the female leads have good roles. Harsha's comedy keeps you entertained even as the story gets serious as we progress into the plot. The premise of the village could've been clearer for the audience to get a more immersive experience though.
Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food (2023)
Progressive hypocrisy
The story initially was heading in a good direction. In general if it was just a film about a women going beyond her comfort zone against her family wishes to fulfill her dream, that's a great story. But this is where the makers wanted to add unnecessary content to help no one. They show her father being a big name Brahmin priest and she being bought up in a very Orthodox Brahmin family. Yet she doesn't know anything about Hindu epics but a Muslim had to preach her about her religion. How disrespectfully ignorant and unrealistic that is!? On top of that if the movie ended with her making mutton biryani with a great skill and taste that is also acceptable. But the movie shows as of the right way for a her to achieve it is to move completely away from her own religion and pray according to Islamic rules. How stupid that is! Let alone unbelievably propagandist.
Now let's flip the coin and say, an Orthodox Muslim girl who are not permitted to accept Prasad from a temple is tasked to cook the Prasad sweet in the most authentic way. Say she prays to Ranganatha the Hindu god in a Hindu way and then cooks the sweet. Do you think that would be acceptable to their community at large? So the opposite is equally unacceptable and unnecessary to the core point of the movie. So this is a mere waste of a lot of skill and money. It's really upsetting that an actress like Nayanatara would even accept such a low grade script even if she found the core of the movie acceptable. In short don't waste your time watching it.
Maara (2021)
Too much work but too little to show
This movie is so colorful and artistic but doesn't know what it is trying to convey. The director and actors put so much work yet with no proper cohesion. Talking about the actors Madhavan really did a poor job in acting and so much unnecessary smiling. Overall it's a really different movie. But different doesn't always mean good.
