American Horror Story (2011)
Hard to top the first 2 seasons...
If I could rate it by season...here's how I would do it. (Keep in mind that horror is undoubtedly favorite genre)
Season 1: 10/10 stars
Season 2: 10/10 stars
Season 3: 6/10 stars
Season 4: 3/10 stars
Season 5: 8/10 stars
Season 6: 2/10 stars (Premiere ONLY) (I really hope it gets better because these found footage/documentary style horror attempts {in general} are getting tiresome to watch).
...And there ya go. Agree. Disagree. Whatever. Just don't say that Freakshow was your favorite or I'll lose my sh*t lol. ;)
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Yes!
It is very rare that a film actually exceeds my expectations when they were as high as they were for this one...but 10 Cloverfield Lane did it with flying colors!
Having seen the first Cloverfield movie, I had a hunch as to what was going on...but even still....it keeps you guessing! There are definitely clues, I will say that. As weird and uncomfortable as the bunker situation was, I kept finding myself wanting to scream "JUST STAY IN THE BUNKER!" (Although I wasn't really sure why)
The acting was phenomenal of course! Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of my favorite actors because every single role she plays never ceases to amaze. She has mad acting skills. John Goodman never disappoints either...but WOW, was this a transformation from his typical role....Incredible!
Definitely and undoubtedly the best film I've seen so far this year! A must see!
BrainDead (2016)
Renew for Season 2!
This show is SO great! It has a little bit of something for everyone...political satire, drama, science fiction, horror, and a whole lot of comedy.
The actors are flawless, bringing their character's personas to life with such ease. And MAN that SCRIPT... that script is so well crafted, written in a style that makes the conversations between the characters feel so natural.
This show has more style, wit, humor, awkward moments, and originality than ANYTHING I've seen this year. (And originality is VERY hard to come by these days). Watch it people...just watch it. I promise that you will be thoroughly intrigued. :)
Tallulah (2016)
Meh...
...Just like a lot of movies I've seen lately...that ending...wtf?! I can't stand movies with absolutely no closure for an ending (with the exception of a few psychological thriller, mystery/suspense, and horror movies).
It's like everyone gets tired of making the movie so they just end it suddenly. All this time spent on character development...trying to make you like them or empathize with their situation, and yet you're not supposed to care about what happens to them or the outcome of the story? It's absurdity.
Why the ratings are so high for this film is beyond me. Not the worst, but there are much better films out there. Watch I Heart Huckabees instead.
