All Style and All Substance
24 December 2023
The foremost thing about the movie is that it has a distinct style that is ubiquitous with Michael Mann movies. The backdrop of night time LA coupled with the wide and focused shots on the characters and specks of light in the distance. This still is first and foremost an action movie with the plot not having anything innovative in of itself but rather the way it is told. The style itself serves as a narrative tool where you can see how the beautiful shots on screen reflect something about a character or the struggle when one has to choose one option over the other. And the music is top notch.
