Llama Llama (2018)
Cute!
All the bad reviews on this show make me laugh so hard. Stop expecting a literal TV show to raise your children. Llama llama is whiny, yes... like ALL kids??? It's a cute, innocent show that doesn't have super modern and updated eye-straining animation. FYI parents: you should be raising your child and YOU should be teaching them problem solving skills, NOT a show. Get your kids off TV and teach them how to handle the real world. Don't rate a show poorly because it isn't doing that job for you. It's an enjoyable cartoon for kids, and that's all it needs to be.
The Pioneer Woman (2011)
Not a fan.
I love home cooking shows, but this one is not my favorite. Ree is way too scripted and robotic, she doesn't look comfortable and she isn't relatable (like Valerie Bertinelli, for example). She makes the same style dishes over and over (burgers, casseroles, etc) and there isn't any substance. She doesn't change it up much or think out of the box for her recipes. It's getting old watching freezer meals every other day. If you are a beginner and need some ideas, sure, this is a good way to get some. I just wish she was a little more loose with the audience and didn't read a script when she's speaking to us. And I wish she would make more family friendly meals that aren't your everyday Tex-mex, pasta, etc.... just my opinion. She is very friendly and has attainable recipes but it's very repetitive and staged.
Valerie's Home Cooking (2015)
Love!
I personally love watching home cooks on TV. They are relatable, and the recipes are very beginner friendly and easy to follow. I love Valerie's energy- she is so fun to watch and my 2 year old even loves watching her with me. I find myself smiling at her quirkiness throughout the episode.
I've made plenty of her recipes, as well. I love that she's a home cook, but incorporates some more "gourmet" type dishes into her cooking instead of whipping up a casserole for the 567th time (pioneer woman I am looking at you).
The show feels light-hearted, less scripted than most, and I love how Valerie thinks out of the box for her recipes. Family friendly, but not your basic pasta or meatloaf yet again. A+ for me!
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
Had potential.
This film is pretty decent. Zac Efron does a fantastic job at portraying Bundy. He is charming and charismatic- you almost find yourself feeling sympathy for him throughout the film (which is a good thing- this is the effect Bundy had on people in real life).
The film was a little choppy and poorly executed at the beginning. It was hard to follow what was going on and it felt like a poorly edited YouTube video, cutting every 5 seconds to something different. The ending of the movie was pretty good.
I felt this film lacked a lot about the story of Ted Bundy and his victims. It focused a lot on his relationship with Liz, which was nice to see a lot of her side of the story. But, that being said, there were a lot of details that weren't mentioned about the actual case. The film barely, if at all, touched on the actual crimes he committed. The Utah court scene was way too rushed. If you aren't familiar with the specific and gruesome details of this case, you may feel a little confused or taken back because once again, this movie focuses way too much on the relationship of Ted and Liz.
If they would've made it less choppy, and added coverage on the crimes he committed and what happened leading up to them- where he was, what he told Liz, etc... this would've been much better.
Kudos to the actors in this film. They all performed stunningly. The actual story just wasn't told the way I was personally hoping. I mean, this is one of the most brutal murder cases ever seen in the US and how long Bundy got away with it stills blows everyone's minds to this day. It lacked in that department.
Good watch overall. If you aren't familiar with this story, read up on it or listen to a true crime podcast first.
Glass (2019)
M. Night fans... be ready
If you are reading reviews of this movie and haven't seen Unbreakable yet- STOP what you are doing and go watch it. Then rewatch split. This movie is NOT for people who have only seen split. You will not understand the plot or the characters and their significance.
A lot of people watched split thinking it would be it's own separate entity- just a good ol thriller. I thought that too.... until I saw the ending.
Glass is the perfect ending to the Unbreakable universe. I was THRILLED to see that Shyamalan was continuing one of my all time favorite films with my favorite characters.
Unbreakable is one of the most underrated movies of its time. And Glass is the perfect ending to the story of my beloved comic book characters from way back in the day. I cried like a baby at the end of this movie. I didn't want it to be over.
Glass did not disappoint. It was engaging, it kept me on edge, and it had twists and turns which are signature to the director that got me just like they always do.
It felt so good to see Mr. Glass again. Also, James McAvoy's acting is genuinely amazing. He deserves awards for this... but critics like to shut down M. Night & his work these days no matter what.... so there goes that chance.
If you're an Unbreakable fan you won't be disappointed with how M. Night chose to wrap up this trilogy. I can't wait to get this on DVD!!
The Village (2004)
No spoilers- here's what you need to know.
Here's the thing with M. Night's "thrillers"... they are so, so much more than what they appear to be on the outside.
With his films, there are always layers. If you pay attention, this may even require a rewatch, you'll start to understand what he is really trying to tell the audience.
This film is in my top 10. If you haven't seen this before, you need to ignore the criticism and go into this film with an open mind and open ears. Pay attention to every little detail, every little thing that is being said. Yes, we all know Shyamalan will drop a bombshell with a twist- but leading up to that point in his movies includes a lot of important information about the plot and the characters.
This film is emotional, and it's intense. And when I first saw it many many many years ago, my jaw dropped towards the end. There's a lot more than meets the eye with his work. This film is no exception.
Bryce Dallas Howard is a stunner and performs very well in this film. All of the acting is on point. Sure, you'll get some jumps out of this movie, and it definitely traumatized me as a child. But don't go in thinking it's along the lines of Halloween, or Carrie, or any other of your favorite scary movies.
Give it a chance. I'm sure it will make an impression on you. The idea behind this movie is brilliant and the writing is fantastic. It would've been an amazing book.
Signs (2002)
A masterpiece.
My dad, who was a die hard M. Night fan, forced me to watch this movie as an older child. Of course, I was traumatized. If you're an adult looking for a thriller solely for the suspense and fun of watching it- this is NOT for you. Sure, it has that aspect of course. But it's much more than that. My dad kept pausing the movie. "Did you listen to that" "yes...?" "No, did you listen to that?" And he would rewind to make sure I caught what I needed to catch...
This movie is much, much more than it seems. Trust me. If you haven't seen this yet, you are missing out on a movie that is so brilliant. I keep a copy of it away from my kids so that nothing happens to it, it's that special to me.
The message in this movie will touch the entire audience- from atheists, to those of faith, to those like me who are in between. It's not just a movie about aliens. It's so so so much more. Shyamalan is known for his Easter eggs and twists- which this movie has, no doubt. This is hands down my favorite M. night film. It's emotional, it's intense, and the layers underneath the surface are incredible to discover- that I didn't discover until watching a second time.
Pay attention in this movie. Listen to all of the conversations being held.
Gibson and Phoenix preformed exceptionally in this movie. This is the movie that first introduced me to Phoenix as an actor. The kids in this movie perform amazingly as well.
All in all, the acting, the story, everything about this movie makes it an iconic piece of art- at least to me. Ignore the critics. This film will always sit on my top shelf next to my Tarantino favorites. And that says a lot.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
So fun!
Why is this show getting such bad reviews?
I'm a 22 year old who thoroughly enjoys this teen drama. I just finished the second season and I can't wait for the next.
The Melissa Joan Hart fanbase needs to understand this Sabrina is completely different from that Sabrina.
If you are uncomfortable with the mention of Satan, worshipping him, hell, etc (basically if you're extremely catholic) please don't watch this show. Don't come on here and bash it because you hate how they are talking of the devil. Come on now.
This show is a fun adventure to follow when you have nothing else to watch on a Saturday night. Cozy up on the couch and enjoy. It's not the best show I've ever seen, but it's a rollercoaster of fun. I found myself in love with all of the characters- the "bad" and the "good" and in some way, rooting for all of them at the same time.
The show isn't going to make you think, it's not going to win any awards- but it's fun. It truly is. It's a different kind of dark- yes, it involves Satan. But it's not the type of dark that's going to leave you speechless and disturbed.
If you're torn between watching it or not because of the bad reviews, just do it. Go in not expecting the new next best show of the decade. This ain't it. But it's an enjoyable experience with lots of fun and lots of drama that I really love to keep up with.
