Meel patthar (2020)
Melancholic, abiguous yet highly introspective visual poetry....
I was intrigued with the initial buzz for the film which happened somewhere in 2020. The fact that it was Ivan Ayr's second film after the powerful "Soni" got me excited and I hoped the film to find a place in a streaming platform as soon as possible. Meel Patthar is poetic and that poetry is subtle. Ayr is not at all interested in spoon feeding the audience about the protagonist's crisis but instead gives them an opportunity to explore it by themselves. It's perhaps one of the best films to come out this year and it might require a couple of more viewings to understand the.essence it encapsulates.
Ludo (2020)
This and Andhadhun are the Best Black Comedy Films ever made in Bollywood.
Although there are a few things that I still need to process and analyze with the film (probably after another watch) Ludo is definitely one of the years most inventive films from Bollywood. It talks about sin, virtue, karma and a lot of other things and is beautifully choreographed as a multi linear anthology Black Comedy. It definitely has "Pulp Fiction" "Super Deluxe" and "In Bruges" Vibes and is a performance heavy film. The actors are just incredible in their respective characters and are perfectly cast. My only grievance with the film is that at the end of the film, Bittu (Abhishek Bachchan) gets killed as I felt that for the character, more than death it should have been love that would have been the perfect redemption for him. Rest, I am completely happy with the film. Maybe a few more viewings would throw some more light on the plot.
Kabir Singh (2019)
A must watch even if you have seen Arjun Reddy
To start of with let me tell you that this review is completely spoiler-free. Kabir Singh is a scene to scene remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy (also by the same director), but despite this the film works big time. I had already seen the original version and hence was eagerly waiting for this remake. And the fact that this remake was to be helmed by the same director just piqued my interest even more.
I saw the film just the other day in the theatre, and let me tell you that if you have seen the original version, you can easily go for this remake because this one just made me fall in love with the film even more. Shahid Kapoor deserves all the appreciation which he has been receiving for Kabir Singh because he has given a performance which matches upto his stellar filmography. And so does Kiara Advani who impresses us with her restrained performance.
All in all amidst all the hullabaloo and controversies going around this film, I would strongly recommend you to watch this film which is completely offbeat and unorthodox in its presentation and also for the unique handling and narrative structure. Just make sure that you take in all the minute positive aspects of the film and not the negative ones.
Andhadhun (2018)
THE BEST BOLLYWOOD FILM OF 2018
To cut the long story short, ANDHADHUN is a classic film which is surely here to stay for a long time. Brilliant acting, shrewd and clever writing and a denouement that is mind blowing. Watch this gem of a film,
