An Interview with God (2018)
Better than it should be. (non-Christian opinion)
I'm an atheist, but I didn't view this film as someone trying to argue me into a religion I don't like. Instead it's about a character learning something about his choices, others choices, and their role in the world. It reminded me a lot of In Bruges. Decent acting from a likable cast. The protagonist seems very young, I think they could have put some effort into making him look less like a high school leaver.
I don't know why people are complaining about the writing of this story, because frankly Hollywood should be ashamed that a christian film deals with theme better than the majority of them. (that being said, there were a few moments where things were said that were already implied, and where the conversation with god went in circles)
There was a major missed opportunity, throughout the film we're lead to believe that the main character had cheated on his wife, and that he couldn't forgive himself for that. Midway through it's revealed that she'd cheated on him, and he'd been wrongfully blaming himself. Considering it's theme, and especially considering it's message in a religious context,it would have been better for him to have cheated. But I guess a Christian film wouldn't want to even think about touching Transgressive fiction with a ten foot pole.
Jigoku de naze warui (2013)
An instant fave
Great introduction to Sion Sono's work. Always something happening, and obviously very well thought out. Both as a film, and as a story. Often times foreign films find their characters washed out in translation, but the story, characters and visuals remain colorful throughout the film.
Hereditary (2018)
The definition of a waste of time
It's alright for a film to be boring; it's a flaw, but as long as there's a point to the film it can be forgiven. Hereditary puts your life in perspective, but showing you exactly how long 2 hours of your time can feel.
Oftentimes it insults your intelligence, has nothing happening, and you're left sitting there thinking "well, this ending better be fantastic, otherwise I just wasted 7 hours of my life". The ending isn't worth it, the film meanders, and gives you the same frustration as a car meandering ahead of you on the highway.
You'd have a better time working a menial job for two hours.
Daphne & Velma (2018)
Has to be seen to be believed.
I'm something of a connoisseur of awful kids films. Until now, Bandslam (2009) has reigned supreme in the so-bad-it's-good, batsh-tuff, kids film department. Daphne & Velma dethroned Bandslam within 20 minutes of run time.
Stunning, a must-watch.
