Lahi, hayop (2020)
Tyrants and dictators have semi-developed brains
A radio broadcast announces that qualities like lust, greed, selfishness are prevalent in chimpanzees and apes, as their brains are not fully developed.
In the story, we see that the characters are showing the above mentioned traits. Paulo, Baldo and Andres and exploited miners, and are victims of extortion. Andres, whose sister and mother was ill, took revenge on one of the extortionist and later he faced the same.
A minor work by Diaz. A mix of mythology and realism. As in Diaz's other films, the camera remains static in all but one scene.
Sátántangó (1994)
Satantango is pure art
Satantango is a contender for the best film of all times. 7 and half hours of pure bliss. Thank you Bela Tarr for this wonderful treat.
Tenet (2020)
Very Bad
Below expectations. A bad film from all aspects. The time reversal is uninteresting and just a gimmick.
Nostalghia (1983)
A masterpiece!
I literally have no words to describe this film!
When we have no faith in the present surroundings, we feel nostalgic about something in the past. We need faith, a sense of belonging to live, something to hold on to.
In this film, Andrei suffers both physical and spiritual nostalgia. After arriving in Italy, he can't cope with the surroundings. He doesn't feel a sense of belonging. He gets attracted to his interpreter. But he refuses to sleep with her, after he reminiscences his family back home. He also feels that, it is not possible to translate one language to another indicating that one can't explain his suffering to another person.
They meet Domenico. People claim that he is mad. It is not true. Initially, he had no faith in people and felt that he would loose his family. He thus kept them locked in a home for seven years. After they are released, he undergoes a transformation, and develops faith in God and in his abilities. At one point of time, he felt cut off from his surroundings. Now, he finds a refuge in the divine and hence is referred to being a man who has achieved his freedom. Domenico puts his faith on Andrei and gave him a candle with which he was to cross a pool. Andrei is someone, who is in search of faith. He takes a leap of faith and does what Domenico instructed. The event of Andrei crossing the pond with the candle is a metaphor for life - representing it's rhythm.
Domenico's speech is moving. He asks the healthy people to help the people who are in pain. In one of the dream sequences, it was being implied that some people suffer because they are neglected by the healthy and free people. At the end of the film, the scene in Italy beautifully and metaphorically fades into the scene of Andrei's home.
Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960)
One of the best films ever!
This is the first Ritwik Ghatak film which I watched. I was mesmerized and awestruck by this film. To be honest, this can't be considered as a film. This is a piece of art. A priceless masterpiece.
I would highly recommend this film to all. It is indeed sad that this film is not popular amongst the masses.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Decent film
I am a fan of James Bond and have watched all the films. After completing the series, I ventured into the Avengers universe with this film.
I found this film to be a decent one. It has good and engaging action scenes. The film never bored me. However, I found the use of such modern technologies in the 1940s environment to be a bit odd.
Ghare-Baire (1984)
A masterpiece!
I have literally no words to describe this film! Throughout the film, I felt that I was transported back to the early 20th century and watching the events unfold in front of my eyes.
Bimala, the wife of a Bengali zamindar/gentry is the main protagonist of the film. Her conflicts, her transformations (no spoilers) are the main events occuring in the film. To enjoy the flavour of the film, I would suggest you to watch the film from the POV of her.
The film illustrates the two sides of the Swadeshi movement. One group felt that Swadeshi movement was unrealistic and the poor would be hard hit. Another group, the utopian one, felt that Swadeshi would bring freedom to India.
Goldfinger (1964)
A must watch movie
This is probably the best ever James Bond movie.
Such intense action, tension all across the move. It is must better than the Daniel Craig ones.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
The best Batman film
I can say with surity, this is the best Batman film. Nolan and Bale had done justice to Batman.
The film is exciting from the beginning till the end. There is always an element of surprise. At the end, Mrs. Tate narrated her story of how Batman killed her father. Although initially an adversary, Selina later joined Batman and after his "supposed" death (the most surprising of all), became his girlfriend.
A 10/10 from me.
Bhranti Bilas (1963)
Very funny
It is a very very funny movie. The lead character and his servant gets confused who is who! Full of comedy. Uttam da at his best.
Dead Silence (2007)
Poor story
Although there are many horror scenes, the film has a very poor story and plot.
