Finestkind (2023)
You want to be your own hero
You want to be your own hero ..... This movie is full of those same cheesy lines. The acting is pretty bad, and the main character is irritating. The story line is there but it just didn't connect. The dialogue is very cheesy. There was potential in this movie but it just wasn't executed properly. They probably didn't need the opening scene where the first boat sinks and maybe had his brother Tom rebuke him a few times before letting him join the team. The fact that these were two estranged brothers coming back together again just came too easy and unbelievable. Tommy Lee Jones was pretty good in the film. It was ok but I found myself kind of bored halfway through.
Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (2023)
Worst one in awhile
I'm a huge Chappelle fan but this was really mediocre. There were actually very few jokes in the show and most of it was him telling his life stories. I think his stories have value and I do appreciate them but this is a comedy special and the laughs, some of them good, were few and far between. The last 20 mins of the show are him telling one story which he preps you for. And again while very thought provoking and a great story it's not really funny. As he's getting older he is shifting in to more preachy, kind of like Chris Rock, and less about laughs. The material is probably better for a book. Also he needs to stop the habit of hitting the microphone on his knee and walking around laughing.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Really good movie, really bad music
The movie was very suspenseful and I felt was at a good pace. The actors fear felt palpable. The dialogue was a little left to be desired but not terrible. The plot I thought was very believable but based on other reviews people thought it wasn't. The noise was EMPs and they are a real thing, and the kid had radiation sickness, which could come from EMPs. The part that kept this movie from being really good is the music. The music was atrocious throughout the entire film. It didn't fit the scenes, it was obnoxious and it really took away from the movie. I think of they went back and redid the soundtrack this movie would score a lot better. But all in all of was a good movie and I believe a realistic depiction of what would happen in an attack like this.
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Acting is really bad
I was excited for this show but it just really falls flat. It's not much of a horror flick as there is lots of time with dialogue and backstory. Generally I like those things but, its been pretty bland so far. The acting is very poor for the most part. Ive watched 5 episodes and not sure if I will continue, I find myself about 30 mins each episode wanting to know how the next kid will die. It's like a very drawn out final destination movie. I'm a little confused by such great reviews on here. It didn't really scratch the Halloween itch and it feels more like a job to do to finish the series. It's ok but I find myself checking my phone throughout the show.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Wow really cool
I thought this movie was really amazing. The animation is stellar, the story line is great and the dialogue keeps you thinking the whole time. It actually has a sensical plot too (I find most multiverse movies to not be logical). I think it had great character development as well. It's not really geared towards kids though, more like teenagers and up. My son is 8 and he told me at one point there is too much talking and some of the jokes are a little over his head. He loved the movie though, the action scenes are great. My daughter who is 6 did not enjoy it though again I think too much dialogue for her attention span. I definitely recommend this movie. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because I feel they are dragging it a little bit so they can get a second movie out of it. But it was still a real joy and unique movie to watch.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Meh it was decent
It was an ok film, not one you would watch again. My son really liked it. I didn't like that they didn't really recap the back story so if you hadn't seen the first two (we didn't) you didn't really understand how everyone knew each other. The storyline had lots of plot holes and I don't think any of the science really made sense behind it. I think the writers just assumed people would consume it because they used the buzzword multiverse. The film had some entertaining parts but was very predictable and you knew where it was going the whole time. The actor that played Kang did a really nice job and that part was intriguing. All in all it was ok. The character of Cassie was particularly annoying, probably could of done without her entirely.
Strange World (2022)
Eh
The movie isn't great and it isn't bad, it's just something to watch. It feels like a movie you've already seen but with a wokish agenda. The one thing I think it really lacked was humor. There were some attempts at jokes but they didn't really land. I found myself checking my phone during the movie and my daughter seemed uninterested. My son liked it and there are some action parts, but something just seemed to be missing from this movie. I had higher hopes for this movie so maybe it just didn't meet my expectations. I know it's a Disney movie, but the overall plot didn't tie out. They are living on an animal, which is kinda cool but they don't really explain why?
Black Adam (2022)
Presently surprised
I'm not a big fan of super hero movies, so I went to see with my kids with low expectations. And at the start it was kind of a typical cheesy super hero movie. But I ended up really liking the movie and I was really invested in black Adam redeeming himself. My son loved it. There was good sarcasm in it that he got and was really enjoying the action scenes. They didn't effects were really well put together. I thought the movie was set up well and kept you entertained the whole time. I'm not sure why it initially got such negative reviews from the critics. But this was an enjoyable movie that my whole family really enjoyed. I'm actually now looking forward to some type of sequel as they teased it after the credits.
The Patient (2022)
Very thoughtful show
This was a very thoughtful and thought provoking show. It's really a focus on a person, not the killer, who finds himself and learns from his past mistakes. It's about the struggles of parenting and how to know what is right. And I see some reviews upset about the ending. I viewed it as he realized in the end there was no way he was going home alive. So he used his death as a way to reconcile with his own children. I agree there are some slower parts but it's an attempt to build towards the ending. The acting was fantastic. I think to wrap up the show even further the Mom could of eventually grown and turned her son in. That probably would of completely satisfied the ending. At that point all 3 would have effectively gotten "help."
Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks (2022)
Pretty solid
This was a pretty good special and extra long too. He goes a little long with woke stuff but still a very solid performance. There were several moments just completely cracked me up. Probably not his best but still very good show.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Decently funny
He attacks wokeness in a great way by turning the tables a little bit, which I really liked. But it felt like he wasn't really trying or completely buttoned up in his routine. He mumbled through some parts and others he messed up the punch line with his own laughing. There were a few parts that really cracked me up. I thought it was a decent special but certainly not great.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Special effects boredom
This was a repeat story line from the animated spiderman which was much better. Literally no storyline, just special effects orgasms. They brought in cameos from old Spider-Man movies to fill the void. Almost no point to this movie.
Sing 2 (2021)
Great movie
Great family fun, kids loved it! Lots of great music and pace of the movie was great. Fun way to spend the afternoon with the kiddos. Lots of good comedy in the movie as well.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Good movie, unfortunately accurate
Really good movie with good acting. I believe reactions would be very similar if this were to happen in reality. Didn't really need the long Ariana concert, or her at all really, that felt forced.
Jim Gaffigan: Comedy Monster (2021)
Really good delivery
I think it was his best special, several times he had me doubled over laughing, really good show. Target audience is early 40s with kids, it will really hit home.
Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo) (2021)
Poor delivery
She actually had good jokes but her timing and delivery is poor. Couldn't finish the show even because her valley girl delivery was too annoying. She could really use some coaching from professional comedians.
Lead Me Home (2021)
Fancy cinematography but no substance
They don't really go into depth into any of the people's lives, how they got there..etc. It really just shows San Fran with fancy camera angles. It had potential as they went into the story of one woman with her kids, but they didn't do that with the other people.
Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher (2021)
Had to turn off
The writing was bad, the acting was ok, the dialogue was not old west, the music was off, and the costumes didn't fit. This was a western that seemed to lack understanding of what the old west was like. They used words from our language today like "Academy". And his wife was like a Karen in today's society. It just didn't seem to fit together and I finally got annoyed and turned it off.
Intrusion (2021)
Decent flick
Not sure why such poor ratings.. This was a decent flick. The plot was predictable, the guy was creepy from the beginning so it was a little unbelievable they would be married 12 years and now this just pops up... But overall movie kept you entertained throughout.
