The Last Duel (2021)

A classic tragedy.

The last duel wasn't about de Carrouges vs. Le Gris, it was about egotistical pride vs. Basic human morality.

One of the best performances from Jodie Comer by far. She really took me on an emotional journey in this one.

God i'm so conflicted with this movie ... definitely understood the pacing issues mentioned by many. But it gave me thena x gilgamesh and druig x makkari so 7 stars it is.

The Imitation Game (2014)

A true gem

This is a fascinating, more or less untold story about a sad, brilliant man who in WWII built a machine that saved millions of lives and in doing so laid the foundation for the computers, and phones, and iPods, and every other electronic convince you use on a daily basis. It also says powerful things about the sorry state of tolerance towards sexual orientation found in previous generations.

My favorite TV series all-time! Excellent character development, plots and subplots. Constant tension but also great spots of levity. A very believable, enjoyable drama.

Arrival (II) (2016)

Overall a good movie

It is a 116 minute slow-burner all heavy on atmosphere and light on explosions or any quick thrills. If you wish a quick reference to any recent well-known movies, the result is a bit like Christopher Nolan's Interstellar crossed with Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life. Robert Zemeckis's Contact (1997) would not be very far either, because Arrival also focuses on fragile yet brave female protagonist whose quality acting is one of the main pillars carrying the whole experience. The other one would be overall atmosphere, deliciously dark and ominous. Some will like it, others will probably find it depressing and maybe a bit slow for their taste.
