Marshall McLuhan, Donald Trump, and the Revenge of Cool
My September 9, 2016 talk at the Players Club in New York City for the New York Society of General Semantics. I begin by answering a question from the audience about whether Trump's hate speech is protected by the First Amendment, and go on to explain how Donald Trump got so far in the 2016 Presidential election. The explanation applies Marshall McLuhan's notion of "cool," low-content presentations, and their mass appeal.
