1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

PG | 152 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

65 Metascore

An orphaned boy enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world.

Director: Chris Columbus | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris

Votes: 856,371 | Gross: $317.58M

We as fans should understand best of all that book to film adaptations can only squeeze so much in all at once. With that being said I feel that the Sorcerer's Stone did beautiful justice. It was the first movie that set the tone for the ones to follow, and they subtracted things that didn't alter the story line. Great work Columbus!

2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

PG | 142 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

82 Metascore

Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their third year of study, where they delve into the mystery surrounding an escaped prisoner who poses a dangerous threat to the young wizard.

Director: Alfonso Cuarón | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Richard Griffiths

Votes: 691,834 | Gross: $249.36M

Azkaban is my favorite to watch out of the series, it practically mirrored the book! Sure, some things were a little different but it maintained that constant magic feel that Rowling expresses so wonderfully in her books. I'll never grow tired of this movie.

3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

PG-13 | 157 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

81 Metascore

Harry Potter finds himself competing in a hazardous tournament between rival schools of magic, but he is distracted by recurring nightmares.

Director: Mike Newell | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Eric Sykes

Votes: 681,781 | Gross: $290.01M

There were a few things I would've liked to see in this movie, like Dobby for instance, but although a little more was changed I didn't mind a great deal because it turned out great in the end. Goblet was a fantastic turning point for the books as well as the films. It becomes a lot darker from here on out and the movie captured that exactly.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

PG-13 | 130 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

85 Metascore

Harry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon

Votes: 948,888 | Gross: $381.01M

Fourth place is a close neck and neck between this and Chamber. DH part 2 took the cake. The last movie was very bittersweet, but very memorable and I'll cherish it almost as much as the first film. Almost. If I had not been such a diehard Ron/Hermionie fan, the Deathly Hallows films might be a little higher on my list. There's a lack of serious connection between those characters, even for me, but the movie isn't about one couple. Part 2 covered what it needed to cover and it was shot in such a way that tugged on the right heartstrings.

5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

PG | 161 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

63 Metascore

Harry Potter lives his second year at Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione when a message on the wall announces that the legendary Chamber of Secrets has been opened. The trio soon realize that, to save the school, it will take a lot of courage.

Director: Chris Columbus | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris

Votes: 692,612 | Gross: $261.99M

As I've said previously, Chamber is just about tied for fourth place. It was a good adaption but it wasn't a very incredible film. This takes fifth for sheer cheap cheesy-ness. Maybe it was the change of directors, therefore a change of pace and style and outlook. It was different and a little ways off but still an enjoyable movie nonetheless.

6. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

PG-13 | 138 min | Action, Adventure, Family

71 Metascore

With their warning about Lord Voldemort's return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as an authoritarian bureaucrat slowly seizes power at Hogwarts.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Brendan Gleeson

Votes: 633,520 | Gross: $292.00M

Order of the Phoenix was not my favorite book (sorry if that makes my opinion biased), but the movie took me by surprise. It was no doubt just as depressing, but there's something about it that is slightly more tolerable and catchy. It's landed a spot in the bottom three because I think they could have approached it better. There isn't much else to say except I hate when good characters are killed off : (

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

PG-13 | 146 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

65 Metascore

As Harry, Ron and Hermione race against time and evil to destroy the Horcruxes, they uncover the existence of the three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Bill Nighy

Votes: 599,366 | Gross: $295.98M

*sigh* I know I'm not the only fan to say this movie sucked, so I don't feel bad about saying so because I'm not the only one to feel this way. Not only was it a horrible movie, it was an even worse adaptation. I was cringing at times, it was that unbearable. There were so many elements missing and plots gone awry, it made me sad to say I actually had my hopes up at the premiere. It's watchable sure, but not a very pleasant one.

8. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

PG | 153 min | Action, Adventure, Family

78 Metascore

As Harry Potter begins his sixth year at Hogwarts, he discovers an old book marked as "the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon

Votes: 595,815 | Gross: $301.96M

...if any Harry Potter fan knows their books, then they know that Half Blood was a crying shame. I have never been so disappointed in a Harry Potter film before, and DH Part 1 doesn't even come close to how unbelievably awful this movie is. Not only do they fail to explain the first horcrux better, subtract Dumbledore's funeral... they leave out one of the most important plots in Harry Potter history. And that is The House of Gaunt chapter, aka Voldemorts complete origin. So very disappointed in this film : (
