This kind of dark humor is my guilty pleasure. Is not the Cohen brothers, but it is inspired on their work. This series really got me. There is a lot going on here, probably the best out there recently. Which is not hard considering what’s out there. Let me tell you this: they are not selling gays, blacks or women’s rights (entirely). That’s refreshing.

This is simple, heart-felt, heart-warming, hopeful pre-war film. Jimmy Stewart always gets me. And Simone Simon, what could I say? This is the first time I ever come across her and oh boy, she got me: soft, minimal, beautiful, she carries the movie, and us with her. The more I watch old Hollywood, the less I understand new Hollywood. Have to admit I like when characters in a film are people one can really look up to.

This is not a masterpiece, but in 2009 another movie was made and titled the same, the comparison of concerns between 1939 and 2009 is worth exploring. The 1939 movie explores the struggles of marriage and their commitment to fight together no matter how tragic life turns out to be. The 2009 piece of crap explores a married man trying to find a lover for his wife, so he will feel less guilty for his unfaithfulness.
