1. Erased (2016)

Votes: 58,275

Pretty much perfect, this is the most emotionally draining anime I've seen. It's also really interesting, and pretty *beep* adorable at times. That cliffhanger from episode 4 AAAAAHHHHHHH!, I can't wait til next Thursday. The Character's expressions look so vibrant and natural. The Winter imagery looks incredible. So many comparisons to my favorite game Life is Strange. Their are so many things I love in this anime from entertainment and other areas in general. These next two months of watching an episode then waiting 6 days will simultaneously be the best and worst thing. This show makes me look forward to Thursdays which I normally dread. I really really hope this stays as good as it has been so far, and that Kayo Hinazuki will be alright.

Also holy *beep* I love the poster <-----------------------------------

2. FLCL (2000–2001)

TV-14 | 151 min | Animation, Action, Comedy

Mysterious things start happening when 12-year-old Naota meets a strange woman on a Vespa wielding a big guitar.

Stars: Jun Mizuki, Mayumi Shintani, Izumi Kasagi, Suzuki Matsuo

Votes: 19,725

Insane is the best way to describe this Gainax mini-series. The structure is all over the place and the art style is frequently changed, which for the most part works in its favor. No one will get the plot of FLCL after the first viewing, heck I still don't really get all of it, but for this anime I'd say the journey is more important than the actual end of payoff. The soundtrack with mainly The pillows material is fantastic, and probably my favorite part of the show, since it always fits the scene very well. Not the masterpiece that most of its reviews here claim it to be,but it's still and absurdly good time none the less. Also Naota's male class mates and family members annoy the crap outta me, still I find myself drawn to this show

Edit: I've watched this show a few times now, and it gets better with each viewing. With each new viewing a learn more and more about the show, and I really enjoyed listening to the director's commentary for each episode. The music is perfect, the show isn't perfect, but it is the most entertaining anime I've seen.

3. Cowboy Bebop (1998–1999)

TV-14 | 24 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

The futuristic misadventures and tragedies of an easygoing bounty hunter and his partners.

Stars: Kôichi Yamadera, Unshô Ishizuka, Megumi Hayashibara, Steve Blum

Votes: 138,987

Pretty much perfect, and the reason I wanted to watch other Japanese animations. The show has a perfect balance of energy and never loses it's chill even when stakes are high. The characters are all very fleshed out, and voiced incredibly. The action is really fluid, and a joy to watch. The ending while not the happiest was in hind sight satisfying and better than any other anime series ending I've seen. In it's short run, Bebop leaves a lasting impact that most shows couldn't reach with 10 seasons.

A teenage boy finds himself recruited as a member of an elite team of pilots by his father.

Stars: Megumi Ogata, Megumi Hayashibara, Kotono Mitsuishi, Spike Spencer

Votes: 85,338

I had a hard time enjoying this show at first since I wasn't a big fan of the mech theme, but NGE isn't about the evas its about the characters. Shinji Ikari is a character I sympathize for immensely since I really relate to him. The other main characters are also very well written and pretty broken emotionally. While the animation is pretty non existent in the final two episodes, I still loved them. While this Sci-fi setting isn't the most realistic the characters of NGE are the possibly the most human characters I've ever witnesses in animation. But the music isn't that great, and the plot is too complexed and *beep* up for its own good. I still need to check the End of Evangelion, but once I do hopefully I'll be able to appreciate this series even more.

Update: Just watched End of Evangelion, and it was a lot more weird than the actual series, but it's definitely a better ending than episode 25/26.

6. One Punch Man (2015– )

TV-PG | 24 min | Animation, Action, Comedy

The story of Saitama, a hero that does it just for fun & can defeat his enemies with a single punch.

Stars: Makoto Furukawa, Kaito Ishikawa, Max Mittelman, Zach Aguilar

Votes: 185,897

Amazing Premise, which still has as many possibilities as ever. I love the hero ranking system and the character of Saitama is just the best. The metal music works well with the amazing fluent action scenes. The only problem I have is 1 nitpick, so I can't wait for the development of season 2.

Stars: Ami Koshimizu, Aya Suzaki, Toshihiko Seki, Shin'ichirô Miki

Votes: 16,810

This action anime really got me excited and never really stopped being amazing. It started pretty small but became huge scale wise and it really worked. I loved most the characters, the animation/ art style was really fluid, cartoony, and colorful. Mako is just the best sidekick you could ask for. The fan service was too over the top in my opinion, but that isn't a huge complaint.

Stars: Mamoru Miyano, Brad Swaile, Vincent Tong, Ryô Naitô

Votes: 378,767

The plot is incredible until around episode 20, then the second story arc really pales in comparison to the first. The premise is great the cat mouse game between Light and L is great, it just gets convoluted and less entertaining the longer it goes on but the first half with the firm opening theme is fantastic, the second theme is awful though. It's pretty inconsistent overall but you'll be hooked after the first episode.

More of a mix of Power Puff Girls and South Park than anything from Japan. P&SWG is joyfully perverse and grotesquely hilarious for the most part. There are a few episodes that fall flat on their face, but the other episodes more than make up for it. The electronic soundtrack is catchy as hell, in fact the opening theme was so catchy that I actually bought the soundtrack. The other main problem I have is the terrible ending. I know Gainax endings aren't always the best at wrapping up the plot and its elements nicely, but that out of nowhere ending was uncalled for. While inconsistent and with an atrocious ending P&SWG is still a hilarious western influenced anime that anyone should check.

8.5/10

A group of school kids and a possessed cat fight ghosts in their neighborhood.

Stars: Takako Honda, Kurumi Mamiya, Tomoko Kawakami, Makoto Tsumura

The dub is hilarious and saves the show from mediocrity. Everything is ok except the dub which is very vulgar and pop culture heavy but rules none the less.

8/10

14. Azumanga Daioh: The Animation (2002)

TV-PG | 24 min | Animation, Comedy, Fantasy

A humorous and highly unpredictable animated series following a group of high school girls and their teachers.

Stars: Tomoko Kaneda, Yuki Matsuoka, Chieko Higuchi, Rie Tanaka

Votes: 3,473

Pretty funny and cutesy, but it never holds my attention for more than 2-3 episodes. Also the intro is way too long. It's a good show but nothing amazing.

7.5/10

15. Sound! Euphonium (2015– )

TV-PG | 23 min | Animation, Comedy, Drama

Kumiko, a girl with absolutely no ambition, decides to change herself now that she has started her high school life and try to leave her hobby, playing euphonium in orchestra aside but she totally cannot forget it anyway.

Stars: Tomoyo Kurosawa, Ayaka Asai, Moe Toyota, Chika Anzai

Votes: 1,441

Initial Impressions: The Animation is gorgeous but I don't have that many other positive things to say about the show. It's seems pretty shallow for now, and think that the movie whiplash does a lot more than this show has. The characters are pretty bland and their constant flirtatious compliments about others in the ensemble is kinda off putting. Not really a show I feel like sticking with but it certainly is eye candy.

Final impressions: the Show looks gorgeous, it gets quite a bit better around episode 8 story wise. Still I feel like it's pretty melodramatic and I still don't care for a few of the characters but it's overall enjoyable.
