Shows To Reboot or Revive

by gothceltgirl | created - 13 Jun 2021 | updated - 13 Jun 2021 | Public

I recently began to think of all the reboots, remakes, & revivals, some good, some much too soon. And discovered a long wiki list of cancelled sci-fi & fantasy shows. I decided to make a list of some of my faves, as well as some with really great concepts, that should be considered for a reboot or revival, much like what they did w/Dallas. I may wait to actually watch some more of these before I add more to the list.

1. Friday the 13th: The Series (1987–1990)

TV-MA | 45 min | Fantasy, Horror, Mystery

Two young antique store owners must recover cursed antiques.

Stars: Louise Robey, Chris Wiggins, John D. LeMay, Steve Monarque

Votes: 4,142

I think this could perhaps be revived, as the most successful show on my list, it had a timeless quality with an inexhaustible potential for more supernatural hijinks. And hey, maybe it could even tie-in to Warehouse 13, after the fact.

2. Kindred: The Embraced (1996)

60 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

Julian Luna, the undead Prince of the City, leads the Vampire Clans as he falls in love with Caitlin, a human reporter.

Stars: Stacy Haiduk, Erik King, Patrick Bauchau, Brigid Brannagh

Votes: 2,962

This was actually quite a good series. More diverse, thematic, and thought-provoking than most vampire stories. And often not as campy. There is a lot of potential here.

3. Sleepwalkers (1997–1998)

TV-14 | 60 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

A high-tech team of dream researches uses experimental computer technology to enter peoples' dreams and nightmares and help them deal with their subconscious issues there.

Stars: Naomi Watts, Bruce Greenwood, Abraham Benrubi, Jeffrey D. Sams

Votes: 172

Such an interesting, and creepy, concept. This deserves a chance. I've never even seen it, but really would like a modern-day take on an unusual concept.

4. John Doe (2002–2003)

TV-14 | 60 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

A man who seems to know everything but his own name helps police solve crimes as he searches for his identity.

Stars: Dominic Purcell, Jayne Brook, John Marshall Jones, William Forsythe

Votes: 8,319

Ended on a cliffhanger, but was chock full of conspiracy theory goodness.

5. M.A.N.T.I.S. (1994–1995)

TV-G | 60 min | Action, Sci-Fi

A paralyzed African-American scientist builds a powerful exo-skeleton in order to walk again, and uses his new abilities to fight crime.

Stars: Carl Lumbly, Roger Rees, Chris Gartin, Galyn Görg

Votes: 824

They did Black Lightning, so this should also work.

6. The Visitor (1997–1998)

60 min | Drama, Sci-Fi

Adam MacArthur, who disappeared 50 years ago in the Bermuda Triangle, has returned to save humanity from destruction. Chased by the government s and aliens who abducted him, he travels across the United States to help people.

Stars: John Corbett, Grand L. Bush, Leon Rippy, John Storey

Votes: 461

Cool concept

7. Earth 2 (1994–1995)

TV-PG | 60 min | Adventure, Sci-Fi

Colonists, crash-landed on an alien planet, begin the long trek to their originally designated landing place, facing alien and human threats.

Stars: Debrah Farentino, Clancy Brown, Sullivan Walker, Jessica Steen

Votes: 5,524

I think I watched this years ago & it ended on a Clifhanger, once again, the dreaded clifhanger of doom.

8. Otherworld (1985)

60 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Thrown into another dimension, a family must keep ahead of a tyrannical state's hunters while searching for a way home.

Stars: Sam Groom, Gretchen Corbett, Tony O'Dell, Jonna Lee

Votes: 585

Maybe you could change the dynamic. Instead of there being a child, which will either slow down the plot b/c everything has to be child-friendly danger or become too bleak.

9. The Phoenix (1981–1982)

60 min | Sci-Fi

An ancient and powerful human-like alien is pursued on modern Earth while he searches for his long lost partner.

Stars: Judson Scott, Richard Lynch, E.G. Marshall, Carmen Argenziano

Votes: 342

A very intriguing concept with a lot of potential

10. Probe (1988)

60 min | Comedy, Crime, Mystery

An eccentric scientific prodigy and his secretary investigate mysteries.

Stars: Parker Stevenson, Ashley Crow, Jon Cypher, Clive Revill

Votes: 225

Possible Potential

11. Freedom (2000–2001)

60 min | Sci-Fi, Drama, Action

After a coup, the US government is taken over by renegade military forces, forcing four people - each of whom had been arrested for treason - to band together and help the resistance return the legitimate government to power.

Stars: Scarlett Chorvat, Darius McCrary, Holt McCallany, Bodhi Elfman

Votes: 160

Could be too soon after recent events. But there's also the potential to put a Sci-Fi or supernatural twist on things.

12. Mysterious Ways (2000–2002)

TV-14 | 60 min | Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

Declan Dunn is an anthropology professor who believes in miracles and other wonders. When he hears of a miraculous thing he goes out to find out if it's an actual miracle. Peggy Fowler is ... See full summary »

Stars: Adrian Pasdar, Rae Dawn Chong, Alisen Richmond-Peck, Beverley Elliott

Adrian Pasdar and Rae Dawn Chong, what's not to like? Maybe they could simply revive it. What are the 2 of them up to now?
