Kenny Loggins spoke of one Elvis Presley song in religious terms. He didn’t mention that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was not the first singer to record the song. The tune in question has been cited as an all-time classic. That might not be the case.
Kenny Loggins’ favorite Elvis Presley song is 1 of the most famous
In a 2022 article, Grammy.com asked several artists from different genres to name their favorite tune by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Donny Osmond chose “Polk Salad Annie” and Dan Smith from Bastille chose “Unchained Melody.” Loggins, on the other hand, picked a track that was far more famous.
“When ‘Hound Dog’ came out in 1956, I was eight years old,” he recalled. “I would come home from school and would sneak into my brother’s room to play his 45 over and over again. It’s one of the greatest songs of all time.

The two continued to tango off-screen and wed in 2016. Johnson Herjavec last competed on the show in Season 24 with Mr. T. Now, Johnson-Herjavec is taking on a new role in the Lifetime movie Hunting Housewives. She plays Joli Symons, a woman hoping to have a fun getaway with her girlfriends. Steve Lawrence, a king among easy-listening crooners who rocketed to fame in the ’50s and ’60s as half of the duo Steve and Eydie, died Thursday at age 88. Lawrence died at home in Los Angeles, and the cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s disease, according to a spokesperson for the family, Susan DuBow.
Lawrence’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis had finally put an end to his touring career in 2019, after a run in the public eye that spanned six and a half decades.
Lawrence was preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Eydie Gormé, with whom he enjoyed nearly unparalleled success as a performing couple during their heyday as touring artists and TV stars in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. The couple had continued to tour together through 2009.
His colleagues began to weigh in Thursday. “Steve was one of my favorite guests on my variety show,” Carol Burnett said,...

Steve Lawrence, the charismatic Grammy- and Emmy-winning crooner who delighted audiences for decades in nightclubs, on concert stages and in film and television appearances, died Thursday. He was 88.
Lawrence, who partnered in a popular act with his wife of 55 years, the late Eydie Gormé, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease, a publicidst announced.
With his boyish good looks, silky voice and breezy personality, Lawrence broke into show business when he won a talent competition on Arthur Godfrey’s CBS show and signed with King Records as a teenager. The singer chose to stay old school and resist the allure of rock ‘n’ roll.
“It didn’t attract me as much,” Lawrence once said. “I grew up in a time period when music was written by Irving Berlin and Cole Porter and George and Ira Gershwin and Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart and Sammy Cahn and Julie Stein.

Plot: Behind the scenes of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.
Review: Young people today have no idea how hard it was to see the Star Wars Holiday Special in the days before the internet. I remember only being aware of the Holiday Special in the mid-nineties thanks to the occasional mention in Starlog or Sci-Fi Universe. In about 1996, some friends and I attended a Star Wars Convention in Montreal, and the big attraction was that they would be screening the Holiday Special in full on someone’s bootleg tape. My pals and I were so excited, but after all the years of reading about it and dreaming of what it could be like, we walked out after ten minutes. Nine minutes of unsubtitled Wookie was enough to turn us off, and to this day, I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat through the whole thing.

“Dancing with the Stars” premiered in 2005 with a focus on teaching celebrities some fancy footwork. But along the way the professional dancers who teach and partner with those celebrity amateurs became stars in their own right. Many of them returned to the show year after year, and over a dozen have won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy over the course of the series. Scroll down to see every single “DWTS” pro champion, listed by their number of victories.
It’s fitting that the “DWTS” pros have become fan-favorites because they’re not just dancers. They’re also trainers, choreographers and storytellers, and their chemistry with the stars fuels the show’s best routines, so they’re truly the lifeblood of the competition, especially when they bring talent and charisma out of unexpected places, from child stars to race car drivers to one male model, Nyle Dimarco, who won the Mirror...

Chicago – A long time ago (1978) in an America far far away, the one and only showing of the “Star Wars Holiday Special” took place on CBS-tv. Infamously miscast and difficult to watch, the history of the show is chronicled in a new doc “A Disturbance in the Force,” co-directed by Jeremy Coon and Steven Kozak.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
In 1977, “Star Wars” became a cultural phenomenon that single-handedly revitalized a stagnant film industry, and forever changed how films were sold, made, and marketed. On November 17th, 1978, CBS aired the two-hour “Star Wars Holiday Special” and was watched by 13 million people. It never re-aired and is considered one of the worst shows to ever be broadcast on national TV. “A Disturbance in the Force” co-directors Jeremy Coon and Steve Kozak combine celebrity insight – including Seth Green, Donny Osmond and Kevin Smith – archival/participant interviews and broadcast history perspective to understand why this show was created.

Why did George Lucas allow the Star Wars Holiday Special to take place? A Disturbance in the Force does a deep dive into the 1978 special watched by millions and then locked away in a vault, never to be screened again.

Its influence on pop culture has only increased over the last two decades and, also, add the fact that it is a part of the Star Wars filmography – and a hidden one at that – only adds to its mystique. The feature-length documentary A Disturbance In The Force delves into the bizarre history of 1978’s ill-advised Star Wars Holiday Special. It’s out next month.
Bea Arthur out of The Golden Girls tending the Cantina bar in Mos Eisley. Stormtroopers disco dancing. Kris Kristofferson dressed up as Han Solo for some reason. Yes, 1978’s Star Wars Holiday Special offers up such an array of bizarre, fever dream imagery that it has long since passed into legend.
Initially conceived as a stop-gap to tide fans over during the long wait between 1977’s Star Wars and 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, a mixture of somewhat relaxed quality control and 1970s US television conventions saw the special emerge as a glittery variety show rather than fantastical space opera. The story behind the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special is the focus of the documentary A Disturbance in the Force, which — following its premiere at Sundance earlier this year — will head to streaming and DVD this December.
The ill-fated special, which aired Thanksgiving weekend in 1978, is now legend: Fresh off the success of Star Wars, George Lucas was talked into capitalizing on the craze in the form of a holiday-themed TV special, but what resulted was a “Life Day” celebration that hued closer to a Seventies variety show than The Mandalorian.

Dancing with the Stars viewers are calling foul on judges Carrie Ann Inaba, head judge Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli. They claim the trio was “underscoring” beloved TV star Barry Williams after a lively Cha Cha for Latin Night. Fans believe “they did him dirty” by giving the entertainer scores that placed him toward the bottom of the leaderboard.

Dancing with the Stars Season 32 cast member Barry Williams entered week two of DWTS facing a challenging Cha Cha for Latin Night. Peta Murgatroyd trained Williams in the dance, incorporating small, quick steps rather than long glides across the dance floor.
In a video package accompanying William’s Cha Cha, Peta Murgatroyd and other competing couples celebrated Williams’ 69th birthday in a DWTS rehearsal room. The former Brady Bunch star admitted a great birthday gift would be high scores from the judges.

For the love of jive, look what’s back on ABC!
For a minute, it didn’t look as if the mirror ball would return home on time. The ongoing strike and the preponderance of picketers had the network flirting with the possibility of postponing tonight’s season 32 premiere of Dancing with the Stars. But a deal was finally hammered out on Sunday and earlier this evening, the WGA declared the strike would officially end at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. What better way to celebrate than watching a bunch of celebs break out in dance?
But before the competition can begin, the cast paid tribute to the late Len Goodman — who now has a Mirror Ball trophy named after him! Goodman, DWTS‘ former head judge, died in April at 78.

Monay, real name Jerrica Brooks (daughter of comedian J.B. Smoove), played a strong game in Claim to Fame Season 2, which came to a close on August 28 on ABC. Arguably the season’s best strategist, she came in second place behind Gabriel Cannon, whose finale challenge win gave him the power to decide the order of the final Guess-Offs, setting the stage for his win. While Jerrica proved to have the best pop culture knowledge of the cast, she was one of the many who fell victim to the Elton John theory. Chris Osmond‘s claim to fame was father Donny Osmond, but it took the young cast the entire season to bring up his name as a possibility. Somehow, Hugo Wentzel (President Jimmy Carter’s grandson) was convinced the British musician was from Utah, and he had Jerrica, J.R., and ...

Viewers of Claim to Fame Season 2 watched with mouths agape as the cast struggled to unveil Chris’s celebrity relative. If his likeness to his father, Donny Osmond, wasn’t clear enough, the many clues about him being a 1970s teen icon from Utah should have made it clear that, at the very least, the mystery person wasn’t British musician Elton John or Billy Idol. Chris tells TV Insider he couldn’t believe the theories either, and they taught him a lot about his family’s fame. “It’s very apparent to me, now that I’ve been on this show and [have seen[ what people are saying on social media, that the Osmonds, they were very prevalent in the seventies, and then they kind of split off and did their own thing,” Chris explains. “My dad did his own thing. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Claim to Fame Season 2 finale.] Gabriel Cannon would like to clear up some things from Claim to Fame Season 2. We predicted early on that the boisterous character was related to Nick Cannon. And as revealed in the August 28 Claim to Fame finale, we were right! Gabriel, last name Cannon, is the younger brother of The Masked Singer judge, but no one in the cast had the chance to test the Cannon theory. Gabriel won Claim to Fame Season 2 when correctly guessing Monay was related to J.B. Smoove. Monay knocked Chris out of the game just moments before by (finally) correctly guessing his relative was Donny Osmond. TV Insider caught up with Gabriel to talk about his win, and we had to ask him about one lie he spun early on in the season that, for us, made it obvious his famous family member is the Drumline star. The clue in question ...

Claim to Fame contestant Chris was finally exposed as Donny Osmond‘s son on Monday’s (August 28) season finale after countless wrong guesses, which the “Puppy Love” singer found hilarious. Taking to Instagram on Monday night, Donny shared how proud he was of his son and poked fun at the other contestants’ struggle to figure out Chris’ celebrity relative, which included incorrect guesses such as Elvis Presley, Jim Carrey, Elton John, Billy Idol, and more. “For those of you who’ve been watching the ABC reality show, Claim to Fame, I thought my son, Chris, did an amazing job! He made that show so interesting because no one could guess which celebrity he was related to,” the beloved singer wrote. “I’m proud of my son.” ABC/John Fleenor He then signed off the post in comical fashion, writing, “Signed, Nicholas Cage. I mean, Elvis Presley. I mean, Jim Carrey.

America’s favorite guessing game reached a dramatic conclusion on Monday with the unmasking (hint, hint!) of Claim to Fame‘s four remaining celebrities — and the winner of Season 2.
Claim to Fame Season 2: Every Secret Celebrity Identity Revealed View List
Somewhat predictably, the first hour ended with Gabriel eliminating Karsyn, whose celebrity relative — she’s the niece of NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt Jr. — had already been named by several players. Gabriel being the one to send Karsyn home also felt very salt-in-wound, as she was still processing the discovery that he lied to everyone all season about his own famous family member.

ABC’s Claim to Fame Season 2 is almost over, and the winner gets to take home the grand prize. So far this season, fans have watched the relatives of famous folks attempt to hide their identity from the others in the house. And the final celeb relative standing wins. Here’s what the winner receives.
[Spoiler alert: Claim to Fame Season 2 spoilers below regarding the finale.]
What does the ‘Claim to Fame’ Season 2 winner get?
The Claim to Fame Season 2 winner receives $100,000.
Compared to other reality TV shows currently on the air, $100,000 doesn’t feel like much. Survivor and The Amazing Race — both CBS reality competition shows — offer $1 million grand prizes. With that said, $100,000 is still a good chunk of change. Season 1 winner Loreal Palmer, Keke Palmer’s older sister, explained what she planned to do with her earnings after she won.
“I want to start my own production company,” she told USA Today.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Claim to Fame Season 2.] Save for outright saying his name, Claim to Fame couldn’t make Chris’s relative more obvious. The man is an Osmond, people! And by people, we mean the Claim to Fame Season 2 cast, who sooner thought Elton John was from Utah before they remembered the Osmonds exist. In case you haven’t put the clues together yet, Chris is Donny Osmond‘s son. This shouldn’t be a spoiler, as Season 2 Episode 8 revealed a clue that confirms this theory. The clue stated that Chris’s relative won Dancing With the Stars Season 9. Donny took home the mirror ball trophy with dance partner Kym Johnson that season, which aired in 2009. The other clues revealed throughout the season also make Chris’s claim to fame clear. Elvis Presley inspired performers of every musical genre, far and wide. However, in the 1970s, one family group felt his influence after becoming friendly with the king of rock and roll. He encouraged them to ditch their clean-cut image and add some sass to their stage act.

While that was only a strong theory up until this point, Episode 8 revealed a clue that confirms his parentage. But the cast’s Osmond blind spot has led to a third person being sent home when guessing Chris’s relative during the guess off. According to Ripa, one age group has an edge: “The seniors really know what’s going on,” she says. “They have a tremendous bandwidth of knowledge from all generations — not just theirs! We have to go to TikTok to try and stump them.” In Generation Gap Season 2, three family teams compete (up from two), and another change endangers contestants’ cash: If they get zero correct answers in a round, they could lose a portion of their winnings — bad for them but entertaining for us. “From our experience, the wrong answers are the best answers,” says Ripa, chuckling. When John Farrar turned up to a movie set at dawn clutching a demo of his hastily written “emergency song”, he didn’t have high hopes. The call had only come in the previous day, crying out for a last-minute number to plug a hole in the musical score for when the greaser with heart gets the good girl turned bad. Farrar hadn’t exactly been inspired in scratching it together – “desperate is probably the word”, he says. The director took one listen and hated it, but the last-day-of-school shot was already set up and they were all out of options. A choreographer threw together a dance routine on the spot. The scene went in the can inside seven hours, and so wrapped this hokey teen musical presumably bound for oblivion.

As confirmed by Deadline today, Jon M. Chu, one of cinema's premiere makers of cinematic musicals, will be adapting the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice operetta "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" for Amazon Studios. In addition to directing, Chu will produce the film alongside Scott Sanders, who worked on Chu's adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's and Quiara Alegría Hudes' stage musical "In the Heights," released in 2021.

In Genesis, Joseph was given said garment by his father, much to the chagrin of his jealous brothers, who began to plot against him. Joseph was thrown into a pit, with one of his more benevolent brothers planning to rescue him later. He was eventually dragged out and sold into slavery. “Star Wars” could stand to come off its high horse a little bit. Other than the recent “Andor,” which actually did break new ground, the franchise has become stunningly obsessed with itself, regurgitating obscure lore, planting callbacks and cameos everywhere, and generally living in the past.
One of the bits of “Star Wars” arcana that especially pops up? The “Star Wars Holiday Special,” the 1978 CBS catastrophe that’s the ultimate example of exploiting franchise IP into oblivion. The definitive “so bad it’s good” fetish object, the two-hour special introduced Boba Fett as a character to the saga and continues to influence stories to this day — the prong-like rifle sometimes used by Mando on “The Mandalorian” came from the special — even as George Lucas and Lucasfilm famously suppressed it. Lucasfilm even produced its own “Lego Star Wars Holiday Special” in 2020.

If you’re a Gen X or “geriatric” millennial Star Wars fanatic, you probably have a story related to the contortions you had to go through to get your hands on the notorious only-aired-once 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.
