We figured Doug Liman’s untitled and highly ambitious science fiction thriller set on the Moon had been scrapped a while back as it’s being so long since an update (around two years) but The Hollywood Reporter claims today that Paramount brass are looking at securing a tentpole star, perhaps to get the long-gestated film into orbit this year.
Previously attached star Jake Gyllenhaal is said to have long left the project (we figured as much, Source Code is the sci-fi blockbuster he did instead) and now Liman has turned to and met with Andrew Garfield, Chris Pine and Emile Hirsch for the lead role. Yup, it’s the usual suspects again as only yesterday we reported that Garfield and Pine were already being courted by Hollywood to star in Akira.
If Hollywood producers each had their way, half a dozen actors would rotate the biggest films year in and year out…...

Morris Abraham Cohen, regularly referred to as, Two-Gun Cohen, was a Jewish soldier and adventurer who became aide-de-camp to the Chinese leader Sun Yat-sen and a major-general in the Chinese army.
Cohen fought with the Canadian Railway Troops in Europe during World War I where part of his job involved supervising Chinese laborers. He also saw some fierce fighting at the Western Front, especially during the Third Battle of Ypres. After the war, he resettled in Canada. But the economy had declined and the days of the real estate boom were long over. Cohen looked for something new to do, and in 1922 he headed to China to help close a railway deal for Sun Yat-sen with Northern Construction and Jw Stewart Ltd. Once there, he asked Sun for a job as a bodyguard.
That is just a short description of the man’s extremely interesting life. Well now it seems...

Doug Liman has signed on to direct a drama based on the life of Morris Abraham ‘Two Gun’ Cohen.
As you see, we’ll soon have a chance to watch another biopic, and this time, we’re talking about ‘Two-Gun’ Cohen, the English bodyguard of Chinese leader Sun Yat-sen in the 1920s.
“He’s a thief and a con man who goes to China with visions of self-aggrandizement,” said Liman, and continued: “but while he’s there he falls for the country and for a woman. The story falls off the shelf without having to twist the facts. It’s almost hard to believe it happened.”
In case you have no idea who we’re actually talking about, Morris Abraham ‘Two-Gun’ Cohen was born in London and moved to China after serving in World War I in 1922.

Doug Liman -- long a fan of misfits and outsiders (from 'Go' to 'Bourne') -- has decided to join with producers Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman and the Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV Production company to direct a 1920s drama about Two-Gun Cohen, the British bodyguard to Sun Yat-sen, leader of the rebels who overthrew China's last imperial dynasty. Liman told The Hollywood Reporter that a trip last year to China opened his eyes to making movies in that country ... and that he was drawn to the story of Morris Abraham "Two Gun" Cohen (1887-1970), a London-born Wwi veteran who moved to China in 1922 and took a job training Sun Yat-sen's army in boxing and shooting, despite his inability to speak Chinese. Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) and producers Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman have teamed up with Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV Production for a 1920s drama about Two-Gun Cohen, the British bodyguard to Sun Yat-sen, leader of the overthrow of China’s last imperial dynasty.
The script was written by relative newcomer, Matt Brown, according to the THR. Liman made the decision after recent trips to Eastern Asia. Liman is not only drawn to the region, he's also very intrigued by anti-heroes and plans to focus the story on Morris Abraham "Two Gun" Cohen (1887–1970), "a London-born Wwi veteran who moved to China in 1922 and took a job training Sun Yat-sen’s army in boxing and shooting, despite his inability to speak Chinese."

Since that other adaptation of The Three Musketeers fell to the wayside with Paul W. S. Anderon's version getting off the ground first, director Doug Liman has had a couple different projects with his name involved. There's an adaptation of The Last of the Tribe and there may still be active development on his gestating untitled moon project. Now the filmmaker seems to have his next project locked as THR reports Liman is set to develop a period drama about Morris Abraham "Two-Gun" Cohen, the famous British bodyguard of revolutionary and political leader Sun Yat-sen, who led the overthrowing of China's last imperial dynasty. Liman describes Cohen, "He’s a thief and a con man who goes to China with visions of self-aggrandizement, but while he’s there he falls for the country and for a woman. Morris Abraham Cohen, regularly referred to as, Two-Gun Cohen, was a British man who traveled to China in the 1920s and became not only the main bodyguard to imperial leader Sun Yat-Sen but also trained his armies in combat. He eventually fought in a war against Japan and even became a British intelligence officer. A real life international man of intrigue, a film version of Cohen's life is now being developed for the big screen. Producers Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman have tapped Doug Liman (Fair Game, The Bourne Identity) to direct, working from a script by Matt Brown. Read more about the film after the break. The Hollywood Reporter [1] broke the news of the film and spoke to Liman about it: He’s a thief and a con man who goes to China with visions of self-aggrandizement, but while he’s there he falls for the country and for a woman.
