"Who are you?" "I'm here to take care of your problem." Sony Pictures & Apple Original Films reveal the first official trailer for Wolfs, an action comedy coming to theaters later this year (and eventually streaming on Apple TV+). Wolfs is the latest movie from director Jon Watts, who is taking a break from Spider-Man after making the three MCU movies before: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. Though he's sticking around in NYC. The film follows two lone wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job. George Clooney and Brad Pitt (reteaming again after the Ocean's movies), two "lone wolves", are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected. The cast also includes Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Irina Dubova, Poorna Jagannathan, with Zlatko Burić. Featuring some slick cinematography by Larkin Seiple. This seems like a good one!

Remember the communiqué from the Rambouillet G7 conference back in 1975? Of course they do. Tramping through a wooded estate somewhere in Germany, pursued by the zombie remains of Iron Age chieftains recently exhumed from the grounds of the nearby stately home, the leaders of the world’s richest democracies recite it by heart. What could be more stirring than a well-rounded public announcement that sounds grand, but doesn’t commit anyone to doing anything? A successful joint statement is a work of art.
These leaders – the chancellor of Germany (Cate Blanchett), the prime ministers of the UK, Japan and Canada, and the presidents of the United States, Italy and France – clearly think they are masters of that art in Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson’s Rumours. Surges of orchestral music as they wave in...

Cate Blanchett’s new film “Rumours” took its name from the iconic Fleetwood Mac album, it was revealed on Sunday at a Cannes Film Festival press conference.
The dark comedy, directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson, follows a group of world leaders who meet at the G7 — a political and economic meeting of the minds between Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States — but get lost in the woods while trying to compose a joint statement. Debauchery ensues, and there are romantic connections between a few of the politicians.
“I did confirm something with Galen last night, and it’s weird that it never came up in rehearsal, which is: ‘Why the hell is this movie called Rumours?'” Blanchett said at the presser. “And my husband had said, ‘Is that after the Fleetwood Mac album?’ And you said, ‘Yes it was.

Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has just picked up international rights to the Danish drama “Home” by actor-turned director Marijana Jankovic (“The House that Jack Built”).
For her debut feature after 2019’s multi-awarded short film “Maja,” a best short winner at Tribeca, Jankovic has assembled an impressive A-list international cast.
This includes Dejan Cukic (“Snabba Cash”), Nada Sargin (“The Mould”), Zlatko Buric (“Triangle of Sadness”), Claes Bang (“The Square”), Jesper Christensen, Trine Dyrholm (“The Girl With the Needle”) and Lene Maria Christensen (“Unruly”).
Based on a script co-penned by Jankovic with the seasoned Bo Hr. Hansen, behind Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming series “Families like Ours,” a hit at MipTV, and Babak Vakili (“Outlaw”), the story is inspired by the director’s own experience, and feelings of and reflections on uprootedness.
Aged six, she moved from Montenegro to Denmark with her parents, but feeling homesick, she returned to her grandmother’s care. A year later,...

Cate Blanchett blew kisses to the Cannes Film Festival audience as her new film, “Rumours,” earned a four-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival on Saturday night.
The crowd welcomed the film’s dark humor, laughing throughout the entirety of the late-night screening. While some of the auditorium emptied out while the credits rolled, the majority of filmgoers waited patiently to pay their respects to the film’s stars. Blanchett’s “Rumours” co-star Alicia Vikander was notably not in attendance.
The film’s trio of directors — Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson — seemed surprised by Cannes’ relatively new tradition of handing the filmmaker(s) a microphone for post-screening remarks. They made a speech together after the applause wrapped, thanking the audience and quoting their own film by saying “it’s better to burn out than to fade away.”

The Cannes Film Festival launches auteur filmmakers, and the best among them have known scenes of triumph at the iconic French seaside festival.
But not Guy Maddin, who for all his accolades as an original and idiosyncratic auteur prized for titles like The Forbidden Room and The Saddest Music in the World, has never — until now, that is — brought a film to the Croisette.
It took Maddin and co-directors Evan and Galen Johnson casting Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander and getting the backing of executive producer Ari Aster to get their absurdist political satire Rumours to the Cannes red carpet.
“Once we got some legitimate Oscar-winning movie stars, and other movie stars that are amazing, all of a sudden Cannes cleaned its glasses off for a closer look,” Maddin tells The Hollywood Reporter of the stars aligning ahead of a May 19 world premiere at the Lumière theater. Rumours...

Exclusive: Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster, an exec producer on upcoming Cannes ensemble comedy Rumours, has called the film “stoopid and hilarious and wonderful” as the production reveals an official first look.
Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander star with Roy Dupuis, Charles Dance, Denis Ménochet, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rolando Ravello, Takehiro Hira and Zlatko Burić star in the movie that follows seven leaders of the world’s wealthiest liberal democracies at the annual G7 summit after they become lost in the woods and face increasing peril while attempting to draft a provisional statement regarding a global crisis.
Some sites have been reporting the provisional statement is about the climate crisis, which we hear is inaccurate.
The intriguing official first image (above) shows Roy Dupuis as the Prime Minister of Canada and Alicia Vikander as the President of the European Commission. The other roles are being kept under wraps.

Beta Film has acquired international distribution rights to Serbian crime thriller “Operation Sabre” (“Sablja”) about the assassination of the Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić.
The eight-hour series – selected for Canneseries’ Long Form Competition – is created and directed by Goran Stanković and Vladimir Tagić. The duo already collaborated on “Morning Changes Everything” and wrote the new show alongside Dejan Prćić, Maja Pelević and Marjan Alčevs.
Heading back to March 12, 2003, Stanković and Tagić show the aftermath of the killing that threw the whole country into chaos – only one year after the beginning of the trial against former president Slobodan Milošević, indicted in 1999 for war crimes.
Đinđić, who served as Pm from 2001, following a stint as mayor of Belgrade, advocated pro-democratic reforms. He was also one of the co-leaders of the opposition to Milošević’s administration.

After Triangle of Sadness won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, writer-director Ruben Östlund ended his acceptance speech by leading the festival audience in a primal scream, just as he’d done a few years earlier when taking the top prize for The Square. The spectacle of Östlund, the ostensibly ruthless parodist of bourgeois mores, entreating this well-fed, black-tie crowd to vocalize some deep-seated rage as if he were a latter-day Howard Beale encapsulates both the pleasures and limitations of Östlund’s particular brand of caustic pasquinade.
All of which is to say that Triangle of Sadness appeals to precisely the same people it professes to deride. Episodic, fabulistic, and self-consciously outrageous, the film introduces us to one comically despicable capitalist after another—including oblivious aristocrats, insipid social media influencers, and self-justifying weapons manufacturers—before subjecting them to humiliation, mostly at the hands of the nonwhite proletariat they barely even deign to notice.

Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund will head up this year’s competition jury for the Cannes International Film Festival, organizers announced on Tuesday.
The Swedish director is currently riding high. Triangle of Sadness, a capitalism satire starring Woody Harrelson, Harris Dickinson, Dolly De Leon and the late Charlbi Dean, won Cannes’ Palme d’Or for best film last year, the director’s second, after his 2017 win for the art world satire The Square.
Buoyed by its Palme d’Or win, Triangle of Sadness has become Östlund’s most commercially successful film, with a box office of $24 million and counting. After sweeping the European Film Awards, winning best film, best director and best screenwriter honors for Östlund, as well as the best actor honor for co-star Zlatko Buric, Triangle of Sadness picked up three Oscar nominations, for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
Cannes has always been a special place for Östlund.

Ashton Kutcher is now an entrepreneur, producer and actor but got his start as a model. The That 70s Show alum recalled his male modeling days posing for the Abercrombie & Fitch catalog and said Triangle of Sadness is an “accurate depiction” of what the industry is like.

Kutcher continued, “I remember living that scene. The depiction is so accurate, it’s terrifying.”

Malou Reymann’s “Unruly” won the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at Göteborg on Saturday. At Sek 400 000, the Award’s cash prize is one of the largest prizes in the world.
Jurors Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Sofie Gråbøl, Antonio Lukich and Matti Bye praised the film for telling a “universal story about human spirit against the oppressive system” with “great sensitivity and power.”
“Although it is rooted in the past, it transcends time and borders, and speaks strongly to our time, our minds and hearts,” they stated.
The Danish director – also behind semi-autobiographical “A Perfectly Normal Family” – decided to go all the way to the 1930s in her sophomore feature, unravelling dark secrets about the real-life Sprogø Women’s Home.
“I am very pregnant and very out of breath, and very touched” said Reymann, accepting her award.

"This is not a making of… But more of insight on how the cowboy fell asleep and woke up in Copenhagen." Netlfix has revealed an extensive behind-the-scenes featurette for their new series Copenhagen Cowboy, the latest creation from the mind of Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. We already posted the official trailer last year, and it has been streaming since early January on Netflix. The series introduces a brand new young heroine, Miu, who travels through Copenhagen's criminal netherworld. He adds in this video that the original pitch was to extended his Pusher series, but it's actually about a woman becoming a "superhero." The series stars Angela Bundalovic as Miu, who's joined by Lola Corfixen and Zlatko Buric, plus a big supporting cast featuring Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, Li Ii Zhang, Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen, Mads Brügger, and more. In 2015, on Oscar nominations morning, Swedish director Ruben Östlund became something of an internet meme. Östlund and his producing partner Erik Hemmendorff, inside a room in New York’s Trump Hotel, filmed their reaction to not getting a nomination for their popular foreign-language film, the ski slope farce “Force Majeure.”
But this morning, eight years later, was different. In the intervening years, Östlund has twice won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, for 2018’s “The Square” and 2022’s “Triangle of Sadness.” On Tuesday, that latter film, a raucous English-language comedy set aboard a luxury yacht, scored three major Oscar nominations: Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.
“For us, it was the exact opposite reaction,” Östlund told TheWrap from his native Stockholm. He was gathered at a restaurant with friends when the nominations were announced, the day after “Triangle of Sadness” won six top awards at the Guldbagge Awards,...

Films are a form of escapism. Some people gravitate towards slice-of-life dramas, while others enjoy bone-chilling horror. Whatever the genre, when executed correctly, a movie should whisk you away from your day-to-day routine.
Anxiety cinema is guaranteed to erase everything around you. You may be surprised that distracting yourself this way is also quite beneficial. Mental health experts confirm that watching something stressful like a horror flick is a brilliant way to channel and release your worries. Of course, watching a film that makes your chest pound isn't always therapeutic. Sometimes, we're merely out for an adrenaline rush or even bragging rights that we're able to sit through something psychologically grueling.
Nail-biting cinema uses everything in its arsenal to leave us on edge. Overlapping dialogue, frenetic scores, and head-spinning camerawork are all trademarks of this subgenre. I love assaulting my senses, so I'm here to guide you to your own state of panicked euphoria.

Editors note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series debuts and celebrates the scripts of films that will factor in this year’s movie awards races.
Ruben Östlund’s second Palme d’Or winner, Triangle of Sadness, inherits its name from a witty Swedish saying that describes the wrinkles that form between a person’s eyebrows when they are worried or stressed.
“You get it if you have had a lot of trouble in your life. But you can fix it with Botox in 15 minutes,” Östlund preciously told Deadline of the phrase.
“It’s a term that comes from cosmetic surgery — not plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery — and I thought it was comical. Like, a dark, comical comment about surface and beauty: our obsession with beauty, and our obsession with looks, and our belief that our inner problems will be solved if we construct a great shell around ourselves.”

Copenhagen Cowboy is a noir-thriller series written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, starring Angela Bundalovic, Zlatko Buric, and Lola Corfixen.
An odyssey where the mystical meets the mob on a neon colored stage. Harsh, brutal, stylized and very aesthetic – this is not a series for the faint of heart.
About the Series Copenhagen Cowboy (2022-)
A peculiar number that will be to the liking of Winding Refn and Lynch fans alike. The mystical merges with the most crude of the underground world of crime.
In six episodes we follow Miu, the young woman who is believed to have special powers, and is used as a charm of sorts. Initially by the superstitious “medieval” mob auntie, a middle-aged woman who yearns to get pregnant. And so, it takes off in the dank setting of a brothel, where Miu will work subtle magic while she observes the strange goings-on. Her journey does not stop there,...

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2022, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
Three years after the pandemic broke out, things––including moviegoing––are finally starting to feel normal again. It would have been an even more joyous occasion if only 2022 has yielded a stronger crop of films to offer those rushing back to theaters.
Of course many, many good films came out in the last twelve months; great ones too––entertaining, informative, artistic works that anyone would be doing themselves a favor by checking out. But films that make you go for the M(asterpiece) word, that you know right away would be top 10 material? Not that many by my count. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.
There’s a strange sort of aura to Ruben Östlund‘s Triangle of Sadness that you won’t be able to shake throughout the entirety of its beastly one-hundred-and-forty-seven minute running time. It’s a film that’s kind of haunting in so many aspects while also being one of the most unexpectedly hilarious movies of the entire year so far.
Östlund takes us on a journey of laughs, sadness, longing, and greed in what resulted in being one of the wildest films of the year.

Danish production outfit Snowglobe and sales agent TrustNordisk have released the international trailer (below) for Martin Skovbjerg’s “Copenhagen Does Not Exist,” ahead of its world premiere in International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Big Screen Competition next month. The psychological drama, based on the novel “Sander” by Terje Holtet Larsen, is penned by Eskil Vogt, who was Oscar nominated with Joachim Trier for best original screenplay for “The Worst Person in the World.”
The film stars Angela Bundalovic, whose credits include “Copenhagen Cowboy” and “The Rain,” Zlatko Burić, who won the European Film Award for best actor for playing Dimitry in “Triangle of Sadness,” and Vilmer Trier Brøgger (“Sticks and Stones”), alongside newcomer Jonas Holst Schmidt.
“Copenhagen Does Not Exist” marks the second feature for Skovbjerg, whose debut “Sticks and Stones” premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2018.
Bundalovic stars as Ida, a young woman who has disappeared without a trace.

The 35th European Film Awards took place amid the uncanny beauty of Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik. While it was possible to take a boat from the marina to gaze up at the aurora borealis dancing across the sky, the northern light on Saturday, December 10 came from Sweden and was named Ruben Östlund. The EFAs have a habit of decorating the same film across all major categories, so when his broad eat-the-rich satire “Triangle of Sadness” picked up an early award for Best European Director, it was clear which way the weather was going.
Östlund barely flinched when his name was announced as the winner in this early category — perhaps two Palme d’Ors in five years does that to a man. He first thanked the actress Sunnyi Melles (who was present) for her “great vomiting performance” and then had the grace to pay respects to Charlbi Dean, the South...

Triangle Of Sadness Photo: Courtesy of Cannes Film Festival Ruben Östlund's Triangle Of Sadness was the big winner at the European Film Awards earlier this evening in Reykjavik.
The satire about a group of super-rich people stranded on an island, won the prizes for best European film, director, screenwriter, along with the actor's gong for Zlatko Burić.
It was a good night for satire, as Fernando León de Aranoa's Javier Bardem starrer The Good Boss was named best comedy.
The Fipresci prize for European Discovery went to Small Body, directed by Laura Samani, while Vicky Krieps won the actress award for Corsage.
Mariupolis 2, the posthumous documentary by Mantas Kvedaravicius, which was completed by co-director Hanna Bilobrava after he was killed in Ukraine, was named best documentary. The best animation award went to Alain Ughetto's No Dogs Or Italians Allowed.

Ruben Ostlund’s Palme d’Or-winning satire takes best picture, director, actor and screenplay at continent’s answer to the Oscars
It was plain sailing at this year’s European film awards in Reykjavík for Triangle of Sadness, Ruben Ostlund’s luxury yacht-set satire of western entitlement and self-regard, which won best film as well as three other major prizes.
The Swedish director, fast becoming an EFAs favourite, also took best director and best screenwriter to add to his six European awards for his 2017 art-world roast The Square. Veteran Croatian actor Zlatko Burić scooped best actor for his role as a Russian fertiliser magnate who becomes an unlikely revolutionary aboard Ostlund’s puke-swilling ship of fools.

It’s a big weekend for awards watchers, with the Los Angeles Film Critics Association set to announce its annual film awards throughout the day on Sunday. But Americans aren’t the only ones having fun. The European Film Awards, which honor the best European-produced films of 2022, took place on Saturday at the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavík, Iceland. The awards are voted on by the European Film Academy, which currently has over 4,400 voting members.
The nominees were heavy on festival favorites, including Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or-winning “Triangle of Sadness” and other Cannes hits like Lukas Dhont’s “Close” and Ali Abbasi’s “Holy Spider.” Those films led the pack with four nominations a piece, though Marie Kreutzer’s “Corsage” is close behind with three nominations of its own. With several of those films trying to sneak into the Oscar conversation, Europe’s biggest award show is an...
