A scene from the Chinese action flick Wolf Pack. Courtesy of Well Go USA Entertainment
Wolf Pack is a fast-paced, subtitled action flick from China that’s well worth having to read the dialog – partly because there isn’t too much of it in proportion to the shooting and fighting time. An elite mercenary unit of ex-soldiers opens with rescuing a young humanitarian doctor (Aarif Rahman) kidnapped by terrorists. The main plot involves the bad guys’ effort to destroy an oil pipeline that’s vital to China’s needs, both foreign and domestic.
The leader (Jin Zhang) is a hard-nosed veteran of many battles. Luxia Jiang co-stars as the attractive female member of the team that’s become almost mandatory in recent action flicks from all countries who crank them out. Diego Dati plays the typically brilliant, ruthless head honcho of the terrorists. All three mentioned in this paragraph fill their roles in excellent style.

Modern Chinese action cinema seems to be slowly adding a political worldview alongside the usual patriotism that can often be found on display. Like the Reagan era Gung Ho Americana, it can often be a bit much for audiences outside the local market. With “Wolf Pack” we once again see involvement in international affair, through a team of mercenaries that potentially are on the wrong side of the law, the set up promises something a bit different. The question is, does it deliver?

The cast and crew of Galaxy Quest look back at the film as its 20th anniversary approaches.
"Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie," states former Next Generation star Wil Wheaton in the trailer for an upcoming documentary that celebrates the 1999 cult classic ahead of its 20th(!) anniversary. Is he wrong? It's at least debatable!
The first trailer for Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary, which will get its first big screen preview in late November, arrives to tease a new retrospective that genuinely seems like a raw, honest and joyous celebration of the beloved Trek parody that managed to break down a wall between the format and its fans.
Stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Justin Long, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, Missi Pyle, Rainn Wilson and Daryl Mitchell wax lyrical in the trailer, while director Dean Parisot and writer Robert Gordon, along with a host of...

Defy Media has sold its flagship Screen Junkies brand -- a TV, film, and pop culture hub that comprises the wildly beloved Honest Trailers YouTube channel -- to Fandom, a wiki (or online encyclopedia) hosting service that operates 400,000 communities across the web centered around fan-centric topics like video games, movies, and television shows.
Screen Junkies counts 8 million subscribers and 2 billion lifetime views across all of its YouTube channels, while Fandom -- which is also known as Wikia -- attracts an audience of 200 million monthly unique visitors, according to Variety. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The sale arrives roughly nine months after Screen Junkies creator Andy Signore was let go from Defy Media after being accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Screen Junkies general manager Michael Chiang told Variety, however, that the sale was unrelated to that incident.

Defy Media has a lot of properties at its disposal, and the network wants to make sure its creative partners take full advantage of these opportunities. The company born out of the merger between Alloy Digital and Break Media has announced the "Creators Program", which will give qualifying YouTube creators the chance to distribute content through multiple channels. The best way to explain the Creators Program is through the example of Prank It Fwd, the practical-joking charity series Defy Media launched for April Fools Day. Prank It Fwd was hosted through Break, it featured entries from pranksters like Mediocre Films' Greg Benson, who contributed a upscale homeless shelter dinner to the project. Future Creators Program projects will bring more notable YouTubers to new shores. For instance, pop culture commentator Kingsley will host a new series on Defy Media's ClevverTV channel, while Matthew Patrick of The Game Theorists will bring...

Singapore’s Cathay Organisation has announced the production of Our Sister Mambo to commemorate their 80th anniversary in 2015.
Inspired by Cathay classic films such as Our Sister Hedy and The Greatest Civil War On Earth, the romantic comedy will be directed by Ho Wi Ding.
A Malaysian film director currently based in Taipei, Ho won the Best New Director Award at Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival for light-hearted comedy Pinoy Sunday in 2008.
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime honour to direct Our Sister Mambo for Cathay’s 80th anniversary,” said Ho. “As a Malaysian who grew up in a small town with a handful of cinema theatres in the heydays, the cinemas nurtured most of my growing up memories – and Cathay was definitely one of them.”
Our Sister Mambo will be a modern-day Singaporean take on Our Sister Hedy, the 1957 film about a middle-class family with four unmarried daughters. The plot will revolve around the Wong household where the father...
