The mythology for the long-running "Friday the 13th" film series has been notoriously shabby and amorphous. At the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 original slasher, it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) had witnessed her developmentally disabled son Jason drown in Crystal Lake years earlier, largely thanks to the neglect of the boy's randy, sex-distracted counselors. Pamela set about getting madness-inspired spiritual revenge by murdering any new counselors who deigned to have sex at Camp Crystal Lake. Luckily, Pamela was killed before she could commit any more murders than she already did.
In Steve Miner's "Friday the 13th Part 2," however, it was revealed that Jason (Steve Daskewisz and Warrington Gillette) was still alive, living in the woods for decades, presumably unbeknownst to his mother. But Jason, it is revealed, knew his mother was killing people and witnessed the events of the first "Friday." Why, one will immediately ask,...

After dedicating an entire month to Erotic Thrillers like Bound and Stranger by the Lake, October has been blissfully fun and silly. Last week, we celebrated our 250th (!!!) episode last week with Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. This week we paid homage to Jason Voorhees with a look at one of Friday the 13th title: Part 2!
In the sequel to Sean S. Cunningham‘s game changer, poor Alice (Adrienne King) is brutally killed off immediately. After a five-year-jump, a new group of horny counsellors prepare to open Camp Blood. These red shirts include iconic Final Girl Ginny (Amy Steel), her sad sack boyfriend Paul (John Furey), as well as hot and fit Terry (Kirsten Baker) and pervy Scott (Russell Todd). And then there’s poor sweet Vickie (Lauren-Marie Taylor) and disabled Mark (Tom McBride).

It’s Friday the 13th, and what better day could there be to compile a list like Friday the 13th Movies Ranked? While this list is all in good fun, I have to admit that I found it to be surprisingly difficult to put together. That’s because the Friday the 13th franchise is my favorite of all franchises and I love every one of these films. Ranking them was like trying to rank my major internal organs. Some may work better than others, but I need them all! I struggled to decide which order to put them in, and ended up listing them based on which ones I would most like to watch at any given time. So here they are, listed from “Yes, put that movie on right now!” to “Sure, okay, let’s watch it.” Check it out, then let us know how you would rank the...

When you've been through the trials and tribulations of getting an "Evil Dead" movie made, it's no wonder Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have remained the best of friends. Almost anything that could go wrong on that chaotic set, short of someone dying, did, and yet "The Evil Dead" emerged on the other side as one of the most prolific horror movies ever made. It's all due to the sheer amount of creative talent it took just to get it finished. "Evil Dead II" and "Army of Darkness" followed in the years to come. While they weren't nearly as dangerous as the "Evil Dead" shoot, that didn't mean they were always in for smooth sailing, especially if you were Campbell.
When the pair are in "Evil Dead" mode, Campbell is willing to do whatever it takes to get the shot. You only have to look at five seconds of "Evil Dead II...

Just in time for the first Friday the 13th of the year (there’s another one coming up in October), Amazon has started taking orders for the book Sackhead: The Definitive Retrospective on Friday the 13th Part 2. As the title indicates, this 277 page book is entirely dedicated to 1981’s Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch it Here) – and you can pick up a copy of Sackhead at This Link! The book is currently going for the price of 18.99.
Written by R. G. Henning, Sackhead has the following description: For fans of the genre, 1978-1984 is the Golden Age for slasher movies. Towing the line is Friday The 13th Part 2, the first follow-up in the Friday the 13th franchise, released in 1981. The Friday the 13th franchise is very important to me, so it always hits me hard when I hear that someone involved with the series has passed away… and last Friday night, the news broke that we have lost another Friday the 13th alumnus. Someone who played the hockey masked icon Jason Voorhees himself: stuntman Ted White. White had already been working in the entertainment industry as an actor and stuntman for thirty-five years by the time he was offered the chance to play Jason in 1984’s Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (watch it Here). It’s not a job he was thrilled to do, he didn’t even want to be credited on the movie, but he accepted it because the pay was good. As years went by, White eventually realized that he had been involved in something special and started connecting with fans at conventions.

While most Friday the 13th fans consider Kane Hodder the definitive Jason Voorhees, the horror community has mad love and respect for all of the actors who donned the iconic hockey mask. Yesterday brought the sad news that Steve Dash, the actor/stuntman who played Jason in Friday the 13th Part 2 (affectionately dubbed “Sack-Face Jason”) […] The post Rip Steve Dash: Actor Who Played Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th Part 2 Has Passed Away at 74 appeared first on Dread Central.

Before Jason got his hockey mask in Friday the 13th Part III, he terrified audiences and counselors alike by wearing a sack over his head in Friday the 13th Part II. Steve Dash was one of the actors who played Jason in that first sequel, and his approach to playing the iconic character in some of the movie's most crucial scenes helped cement Part II Jason as one of the most memorable versions of the Crystal Lake killer, and it is with especially great sadness that we share the news of Dash's passing at the age of 74.
Keeping his fans updated on his Facebook page, Dash had recently announced that he was having his left leg amputated to help his fight against diabetes and a heart condition. Today, multiple horror outlets have shared the news of the actor and stunt man's recent passing.

I know I say this every single year, but it really is hard for me to believe that we’re now less than two months away from Flashback Weekend 2018. Whether you’re a casual moviegoer or a full-blown horror buff, you’ve aware of the Friday The 13th films. And whenever you’re discussing the franchise’s longevity, there’s surely one debate you’ll inevitably find yourself in: “Who played Jason best?” That mostly comes down to personal preference, of course, but six of the actors responsible for bringing the slasher icon to life came together at Texas Frightmare recently and even better, they recreated their iconic looks for photo ops.
As you can see in the gallery down below, we’ve got Ken Kirzinger (Freddy Vs. Jason), Tom Morga (A New Beginning), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2), C.J. Graham (Jason Lives), Ted White (The Final Chapter) and Kane Hodder (Jason Takes Manhattan).

I don’t want to reveal my hand to early on this one, but then again you guys probably know by now that I don’t rip into any film to tear it to shreds. Typically, it’s for two reasons. I see what they were trying to do with a limited budget. The heart is there, but the money ain’t. Also, I’ve had to double back on my opinions of films on the first watch. Hating it in the beginning, and then seeing something or things on another viewing that shows me that I had a gross error in judgment. Well, “Mr. Hush” puts me into a purgatory of indecision.

More casting news has come in for the MGM meta redux of The Town that Dreaded Sundown, and we have the skinny on exactly who'll be facing the original Sackhead next. Hint - It's not Steve Dash or Warrington Gillette.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Veronica Cartwright, Gary Cole, and Joshua Leonard (pictured; The Blair Witch Project) have joined the cast of MGM’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Cole is a deputy who is doggedly pursuing the killer, and Leonard will play the deputy assigned to protect the previously announced Addison Timlin and her grandmother. Cartwright will play Timlin’s grandmother who is raising her after her parents die in a car accident.
Timlin plays Jami, a girl who survives a copycat massacre at the film’s annual tribute screening and sets out to solve the mystery of who’s recreating the unsolved Sackhead murders, using clues from her own past.

With efforts such as the upcoming Hallow Pointe, Mr. Hush and Emerging Past (both of which star Stephen Geoffreys), his films involve some kind of evil that is hiding beneath the surface of things and how it is brought out. Sometimes that evil is internal such as in werewolves in the star studded Hallow Pointe. Sometimes it is hiding behind the facade of any house, on any street in America such as in Mr. Hush. Or sometimes evil is hiding behind the facade of what appears to be a normal town in Emerging Past. With such an interesting trademark, it arouses a cuiousity into what else he can do in exploring this theme and what other evils...

I've watched the movie and can tell you it's a cool one to catch, think thriller/drama mixed with horror elements. Churchill took a time up to talk about Emerging Past and his upcoming projects including the much talked about Hallow Pointe. Churchill not only directes but is a producer and has even done some acting. Check out my latest Versus to find out more about Thomas Churchill.

Writer/director Thomas Churchill describes his indie horror film Emerging Past as being in the tradition of The Exorcist and The Omen, and if you're planning on attending the Famous Monsters Convention in Indianapolis this July, you'll be able to see for yourself if its an apt description since the flick will be having its world premiere during the event.
Emerging Past stars genre veterans Brooke McCarter (The Lost Boys), Stephen Geoffreys (Fright Night, 976-Evil), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2), and Tony Moran (Halloween) along with up-and-coming actress Krista Grotte. The film's original score and songs are by G Tom Mac, and you can check out the first music video for "Soul I Bare" beneath the trailer and poster below.

Dread Central’s next final girl, Amy Steel, portrayed the lone surviving female in two horror films of the 80s. Her first role was as Ginny, the Camp Crystal Lake counselor with a background in psychology that helped her survive Jason Voorhees’ vengeful rampage in Friday the 13th Part 2.
Her second role was as Kit in one of this writer’s favorite underrated horror films of the 80s, April Fool’s Day. Steel played one of several college co-eds that travel to their friend’s summer house, only to find that what she thought would be a relaxing weekend would turn out to be a weekend with a large body count.
The actress had a knack for portraying strong, intelligent final girls that generally were smart enough to stay ahead of the pack that they traveled with. A lot of this was due to Steel’s own introversion, something...

Teenagers looking to have some pre-marital sex, underage drinking and illicit substances are urged to avoid The Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel & Convention Center at all costs this Saturday and Sunday. Those activities are frowned upon by a certain homicidal, hockey mask-wearing zombie. That zombie is in town, because The Hollywood Collectors Show will be holding a "Jasonpalooza" featuring seven Jason Voorhees from the unkillable Friday The 13th franchise.
The gruesome guests include Jason #1, Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette and Steve Dash ("Baghead Jason"), John Hock, Dick Weiand, Tom Morga, Richard Brooker, Ken Kirzinger, and the great Kane Hodder, among other Friday faces.
To show there's no hard feelings between them and their former stalker, Adrienne King and Darcy DeMoss will also be in attendance. (Darcy is also arguably the most impressive kill in the series, when Jason V. slams her head into a wall, leaving her impression on an Rv in Jason Lives!

As we celebrate the 2nd Friday The 13th in a row...we figure why not celebrate it with the man behind the mask in Friday the 13th part 2. This week we welcome Steve Dash The Real Jason from part 2, and trust me you don't want to miss what he says about that other guy! Also this week Ck & Ub go through the news, read fan questions and review some movies including a Canadian Slasher from the vault in 'Curtains' and the newest from the future legends of Horror Comedy Hack Movies' 'Stiff Jobs'! All of that and a bag of chips this week on Deadpit Radio!

Sometimes you wanna go where you know everybody’s name. For diehard fans, that’s the fun of revisiting Friday The 13th. Even if you’ve heard or read some of the stories contained in His Name Was Jason at conventions, in books like Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories and the documentaries, etc. included on the 2004 Friday DVD box, there’s still a weird lust for some of us to search for undiscovered livers and gizzards in the franchise’s body.
