Young Sheldon is one of the best and most beloved family sitcoms out there. The CBS series started as a spin-off of the hit sitcom series The Big Bang Theory and follows the early life of one of the main characters of the original series. There have been many sitcoms about precocious kids but none of them are similar to Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon recently concluded its Season 6 and while you wait for Season 7 here are some similar shows that you should check out next.

A Scrubs movie isn’t a matter of if, but when, according to creator Bill Lawrence, who believes a feature-length continuation of the 2000s TV comedy is “inevitable.” “In the greatest way, the cast of that show and the writers are so good that they’re all working,” Lawrence told Variety in a recent interview. “And the main reason to do something like that isn’t the work, it’s because we actually love hanging out.” As for a potential Scrubs movie, Lawrence said, “I think it’s inevitable that it happens. The joke of it with us is the first time that six months go by that we don’t hang out, we’ll end up doing a Scrubs reunion.” Scrubs, which aired seven seasons on NBC and two on ABC, starred Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Ken Jenkins, John C. Last year, the cast of “Scrubs” reunited for a panel at the Atx Television Festival in Austin, Texas, where they revealed they were all onboard for a reunion movie.
There’s been no news about that project since, but series creator Bill Lawrence is confirming that it’s only a matter of time before it actually happens.
“In the greatest way, the cast of that show and the writers are so good that they’re all working. And the main reason to do something like that isn’t the work, it’s because we actually love hanging out,” Lawrence told Variety during a recent interview promoting his Apple TV+ series “Shrinking”.

Nine months ago, the “Scrubs” cast and creator reunited for a panel and shared their plans for a future project together — likely a movie. While it hasn’t actually begun just yet, it’s only a matter of time, according to creator Bill Lawrence.

Eden Sher and Neil Flynn from ABC’s “The Middle” will guest star on “Lopez vs Lopez” as a father and daughter who move in next to George and Mayan Lopez in Friday’s episode.
In an exclusive clip, which you can watch at the top of this post, Flynn’s character clashes with George, who is still bitter about things that happened when they were kids. And when George finds out that his old boyhood rival now lives with his daughter (Sher), he taunts him about it, until Mayan reminds him that he also lives with his daughter.
“That fool opened a lemonade stand on the same corner,” rants George. “Even as a kid you were a dirty gentrifier.”

“Shrinking” is the bastard love child of “Ted Lasso” and “Scrubs.” The funny, self-aware, wonderfully cast workplace comedy centers on a small Pasadena psychological practice. From there, it moves out in spokes into the family lives, mental obsessions and dysfunction of its three main shrinks: Jason Segel, Jessica Williams and, yes, Harrison Ford.
Laughter, life lessons, hugs, jabs and serial ridiculous situations cram this ten-part comedy. “Shrinking” begins with an absurd meet-awkward between audience and therapist. We encounter central mensch-meshuggah Jimmy (Jason Segel at his most neurotic teddy bearish) in his own backyard.
The mind-doctor has reached rock bottom. He’s snorting a mix of psychiatric drugs while hanging by his backyard pool at 3 a.m., blaring music with two young sex workers mermaid-ing in the chlorinated water nearby. He’s momentarily blissed, high – and a really crappy clueless neighbor in his pricy South Pasadena neighborhood.

"It might be nice to have a little animal hopping around the house." Blue Fox Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Unexpected, from actor / filmmaker David Hunt. It's heading direct-to-vod in the beginning of February, just in time for Valentine's Day if it looks any good. Music critic Bob is out of a job, addicted to Zoloft, and trying to wrangle the menagerie of animals that his wife Amy has accumulated. Will adopting a baby cure their existential angst? Or should they just rescue another duck? She wants to adopt, but he doesn't. Will renovating a house and rescuing animals solve their problems? "A comedy about life, love, adulting… and a bunny named Binky." Starring Anna Camp, Joseph Mazzello, Neil Flynn, Ryann Shane, and Nash Grier. Adapted from the book “Enslaved by Ducks” by Bob Tarte. You’ve probably never heard of “Pbc.” For accountants, Pbc is a common acronym for “Provided by Client.” Also for accountants: FloQast software. And, in what seems like the ultimate bad idea for target-demo marketing, “Pbc” is a branded-content comedy series about accounting that’s produced by FloQast Studios.
But here’s the weird part: “Pbc” is not bad. Its supporting cast includes Danny Trejo (“Machete”), Kate Flannery (“The Office”), and Pete Gardner (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”). It just added Cheri Oteri (“Saturday Night Live”) and Neil Flynn(“Scrubs”). You probably wouldn’t know the series’ leads, Jessica Sarah Flaum and Christian A. Pierce, but they’re talented and have a total Jim-and-Pam thing going on.
If you want to check it out, Season 2 is now streaming (timed by FloQast to give accountants some much-need levity ahead of the busy accounting season). “Pbc” is not the next big Nielsen hit; for one thing,...

As beloved as "Scrubs" is today, nothing about its premise guaranteed success. It's a sitcom about a setting that's usually reserved for serious dramas, with no laugh track or multi-camera set-up. Although a sitcom without a laugh track wasn't unheard of at the time (the very successful "Malcolm in the Middle" aired its debut season the year before), it still wasn't the norm.
The biggest reason for showrunner Bill Lawrence's skepticism over the show's survival, however, was his willingness to regularly take its episodes in sad, serious directions. Just like in real life, patients would die at Sacred Heart Hospital, and "Scrubs" would rarely try to interrupt the tragedy with any light-hearted quips to ease the tension.
Push Back From The Network
Specifically, Lawrence received a lot of push back for season 1's fourth episode, "My Old Lady," which followed Jd, Elliot, and Turk as they all dealt with patients who had life-threatening illnesses.

A lot of popular TV shows have a tendency to become more self-indulgent as they go on. The first few seasons are often written with restraint, with the full knowledge that cancellation could be on the horizon — but once a sitcom becomes a hit, the writers start to get more confident. Maybe a little too confident. By the time "Scrubs" reached syndication in season 6, they started indulging perhaps a little too much in the show's most unique element: Jd's (Zach Braff) fantasy sequences.
Whereas most of the early season fantasy sequences are sharp and snappy, later seasons "Scrubs" had them go on for entire minutes at a time. Some of these (like the Floating Head Doctor joke that was done three separate times) were so good that they were worth taking up a significant portion of the 21-minute episodes, but these longer fantasies were a lot harder to forgive when they fell flat.

For a show that takes place in a hospital, "Scrubs" was never afraid to have some absurd characters floating around. The long-running medical comedy produced such memorable characters as the brutally sarcastic Dr. Cox and the frat boy surgeon known as "The Todd." But no character pushed the boundaries of the show's commitment to any amount of realism quite like the unnamed Janitor.
The Janitor, played by Neil Flynn of "The Middle" fame, is a mysterious and outrageous figure in the hospital. Nobody knows his real name, or frankly his real intentions. In the first episode, he becomes angry with Zach Braff's Jd, the main character, and spends the rest of the series antagonizing him at every opportunity. Whenever the show needed a weirdo around to make whatever kind of joke was required, the Janitor would step in and steal the scene. The Janitor's presence on the cast was...

"How much do you want to be a director, Patrick?" "Do you Need to be one?" Mvd Entertainment has revealed a brand new official trailer for the Star Wars opening day movie 5-25-77, from filmmaker Patrick Read Johnson. Yes, this is the long lost, still-never-released (until now!!) nerdy Star Wars coming-of-age flick that has been in the works for more than a decade. We first posted a trailer for it back in 2009, when it was still called simply '77, now it's ready to shine all these years later. 5-25-77 is a coming-of-age comedy inspired by the true story of a nerdy, alienated, hopeful filmmaker named Pat Johnson about growing up, falling in love, and becoming the very first fan of the movie that changed everything, Star Wars. Starring John Francis Daley as Pat Johnson, with Austin Pendleton, Colleen Camp, Neil Flynn, and Justin Mentell. I've been waiting to watch this!

For most of its nine years on television (eight regular seasons and one semi-spinoff season), "Scrubs" was off-the-wall and surreal. The show, about the journeys of medical interns to full-fledged doctors, could be as nakedly emotional and touching as the best hospital dramas. It could also be incredibly silly. Much like "Ted Lasso," another show from creator Bill Lawrence, "Scrubs" is very sincere and warm-hearted, but it embraced the bizarre with relish, especially as the seasons went on.
The key to the "Scrubs" weirdness came in its main character, J.D. (Zach Braff), who also served as narrator for the show. J.D. is neurotic, constantly wondering in voiceover about whatever plights he and the other characters might be facing. From there, the show would move into J.D.'s fantasy sequences, loaded with elaborate visual gags. Sometimes, the fantasies would speak to the episode's thematic throughline. Other times, they...

Of all the characters on "Scrubs," the Janitor (Neil Flynn) is probably the funniest. Every other character has some sort of serious character arc going on beneath all the jokes, but the Janitor? He's a wild man. He decided he hated Jd (Zach Braff) on his first day and he held that grudge for eight years straight. He was famously not even supposed to be real in the first season, but a figment of Jd's imagination. It was only once it was clear the show would get a second season that they let the Janitor interact with the other characters.

There are so many jokes per minute on “Girls5eva” that it’s easy to forget about them — even when they’re on your body. The cast and creator of Scrubs reunited over the weekend at the Atx TV Festival, where they shared stories from their time on the hit medical comedy-drama and hinted at a potential movie revival. Showrunner Bill Lawrence was joined by cast members Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn for a conversation with Variety‘s Michael Schneider. Towards the end of the panel, the group was asked if they would be interested in a reboot of sorts — and they all appeared to be on board with the idea. “I think we all want it. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn took the stage to remember their long-running comedy, and, as these things tend to do, attention eventually turned toward a possible reboot involving the original cast and crew.
“I think we all kinda want it,” Faison said. “We would all love to work together again. It’s just really hard. It can’t be a full season of a show. It would have to be a movie or something. […] This dude [Bill Lawrence] is never going to be free again.”

One of the longest lines for a panel at Atx TV Festival was for the Scrubs reunion on Sunday morning, featuring creator Bill Lawrence and stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn.
“We’re all so grateful any of you still care, it gives us an excuse to hang out together,” Lawrence said. “We are happy to spend time with each other in any way.”
Which begs the question: Could there be a reboot or revival with the original cast?
“Here’s the deal: I think we all want a reboot and want to work together again but it couldn’t be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months,” Faison said. “With everything Bill is doing now, he’s never going to be free again. If he finds the time, we’ll do it.

The “Scrubs” family is back together. On Sunday, Atx TV Festival hosted an energy-filled reunion panel with the cast of the medical comedy-drama, which aired from 2001 to 2010, first on NBC and later on ABC.
Creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso”) along with cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes and Neil Flynn gathered for a conversation hosted by Variety TV Editor Michael Schneider.
First, the group spoke about “Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald,” the podcast hosted by Braff and Faison. “Because of that podcast, my kids started watching ‘Scrubs,'” Reyes said, joking that her children never bring up any of her epic scenes but do enjoy the rest of the cast’s work.
Later, Chalke revealed she was stuck in an elevator in Austin on Friday night and FaceTimed Braff and Fiason. “I started pushing the buttons,” she said.

One could argue the key to "Scrubs" and its wide appeal is that it offers viewers their pick of three different leads to latch onto: J.D. (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and Turk (Donald Faison). But if you're like me, the character who really keeps you looking back fondly on Bill Lawrence's beloved medical dramedy is Neil Flynn's Janitor. J.D., Elliot, and Turk are the anchors that prevent the show's brew of slapstick and tear-jerking drama from bubbling over the sides. The Janitor, on the other hand, is a lovable gremlin who delights in sowing chaos in the lives of Sacred...

“We are officially in album mode,” Goldsberry’s Wickie announces.

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.
Macdonald’s death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment. The comedian’s longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when he died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.
“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”
