Ronnie James Dio helps director Don Coscarelli craft the classic “Last in Line” music video in a new clip from the upcoming documentary, Dio: Dreamers Never Die. The film will get a special two-night theatrical run on Sept. 28 and Oct. 2.
In the clip, Coscarelli explains hearing “Last in Line” for the first time and bringing Dio an original idea centered around a simple notion: “teenagers in hell.” Coscarelli credited Dio with giving the premise some added depth: “He basically told me, ‘From birth to death, we’re all in a line,...

Riverdale Season 6 Episode 14
“Welcome to the sad superhero club…”
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a…shirtless Archie Andrews! With its latest installment, Riverdale‘s current superhero saga proved that it isn’t afraid to liberally borrow tried and true superhero tropes in order to advance the storyline of Archie’s mighty crusaders squaring off against the increasingly diabolical (and somewhat annoyingly impervious) Percival Pickens. As a lifelong Archie Comicsfanatic, I’ll admit that it is a bit jarring to hear these characters namecheck their DC characters, but it is all in service to the grand storyline here…not to mention corporate synergy. (Warner Bros owns DC Comics and half of The CW itself).
So quicker than you can say “Berlantiverse,” this latest episode had Archie and Jughead browsing the latter’s comic collection when they stumble upon the idea that...

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who is featured in a Reelz documentary about the Warwick, Rhode Island Station nightclub fire, which killed some 100 attendees of a Great White concert in 2003, has released a new song to honor the victims called “Stand.”
The song, one of 12 from Snider’s new album, “Leave a Scar,” is featured in “America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List,” which chronicles the events leading up to and after the tragedy through deeply personal stories of fans who were there.
The Feb. 20, 2003 fire was caused by illegal soundproofing materials and pyrotechnics — 100 people died and more than 200 were injured. Some of those fans had met Great White lead singer Jack Russell earlier that day at a local establishment, and he generously offered to put them on his personal guest list to see the show.

The shorthand summary of the story of Suzi Quatro story is simple: a pioneering female rock ‘n’ roll musician from Detroit who became a big star overseas in the 1970s but couldn’t find the same appreciation at home. And “Suzi Q,” a film by Liam Firmager that premieres on VOD this week, tries to right that imbalance, trotting out an array of female musicians to testify about Quatro’s importance in helping establish the very idea that it was Ok for women to pick up instruments and play rock alongside the guys.
That’s a worthy goal for the film, given Quatro’s influence on people like Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, the Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth and the Go-Go’s Kathy Valentine, among others. Valentine, for one, said she’d never even thought of women playing instruments — and then she saw Quatro on the British TV show “Top of the Pops,...

Ozzy Osbourne will always be the quintessential heavy-metal maniac, but at heart, he’s an old-school song man. His new single — the nostalgic, bittersweet, Elton John–featuring title track off his upcoming solo LP, Ordinary Man — is the latest in a long line of tender ballads from the Beatles-worshipping singer, stretching all the way back to Black Sabbath torch songs like “Changes.” And while it might seem odd to hear the Prince of Darkness sharing mic time with the Rocket Man, he’s also proved himself to be a die-hard...

He explains, “Without any love or any kind of styling, it can get very large, so with that, I was just trying to contain it and really define the curl, while still trying to make it cool and not too overdone.” Drawing inspiration from 80s rock stars like Lita Ford of The Runaways and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Dagenais explains that he took a “very chill, not too made-up” approach to shaping “a very New York-centric, Lower Eastside, 90s cool chick” with Lyonne’s character Nadia Vulvokov.

“Captain Marvel” is going to give “Guardians of the Galaxy” a run for its money. While that film had a killer ’80s mixtape, the soundtrack for “Captain Marvel” is loaded with ’90s radio staples and girl rock anthems that perfectly set the tone of female empowerment and energy. In fact, the film is so loaded with ’90s nostalgia that in one scene after Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers has landed in Earth, she’s standing in front of a wall covered in ads for new albums by Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, 311 and Pj Harvey. So get out your Discman and check out these songs all featured prominently in the film.

“Welcome to the city of El Dorado, Arkansas, U.S.A.” reads the banner on a collapsible stage where a local band is plugging in their instruments. It’s a clear September weekend in a quaint patch of southwest Arkansas. The town’s name became allegorical in the 1920s when a prodigious oil well was discovered, making it the epicenter of the Arkansas oil boom. By 1930, El Dorado was the wealthiest town in America, a cosmopolitan respite in the vast flatness of middle America. The only hint of that glory today,...

Chicago – The year 2016 was a dangerous one to be a famous person. In the past twelve months, one dozen of my former photo subjects passed away, celebrities who at one time or another famously posed for my lens. However, on a positive note, at least photos are forever. Or to quote the immortal words of Pee Wee Herman – “Why don’t you take a picture, it will last longer!”
The ranking of the portraits are based on a combination of the star power wattage of the subjects, the artistic results and the difficulty of landing the quarry…for those budding smart-phone-celebrity-stalkers who may wish to play along at home. So without further adieu, I present my top 20 celebrity portraits of 2016.

Chicago – There are rock stars, and then there are the women of “The Runaways.” The girl group that spawned Joan Jett was also notable for proving that punk rock was not just reserved for dudes. Lita Ford, the lead guitarist, has just written a memoir of those heady days – “Living Like a Runaway” – and appeared recently at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., at an event sponsored by Anderson’s Bookshop.

Chicago – Prior to embarking on her highly successful solo career and becoming the queen of 1980s metal, Lita Ford was the lead guitarist of the aggressive, female rock band The Runaways in the 1970s. From playing heavy riffs on “Cherry Bomb” to a duet with the infamous Ozzy Osbourne on the song “Close My Eyes Forever,” Ford has seen and done it all in her 40 years in rock and roll.
She took a break from her current book tour for “Living Like a Runaway” to answer a few questions from HollywoodChicago.com’s Jeff Doles.

It’s familiar fodder for a comedy/drama. Y’know the story of a parent leaving the family unit in order to follow a dream. Then years later, having to return for an uncomfortable, often strained reunion that usually concludes with a big, new extended-family group hug. After a failed attempt (but sometimes successful) at acquiring fame and fortune the prodigal poppa realizes that everything he really desired was right in his back yard. We recently saw this occur in Danny Collins. But this new flick does a switcheroo with that formula. This time mom flew the coop in pursuit of her passions and dreams. Meryl Streep reteams with Jonathan Demme (they remade The Manchurian Candidate a few years ago) to tell Oscar-winning scribe Diablo Cody’s tale of, not speedster superheroes, family and rock n’ roll. Grab a brew and settle in for a solid set from Ricki And The Flash.

Legendary Kiss Spaceman Ace Frehley lands in Dallas, TX on December 1st. The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Inductee will be taking the stage at Trees for what will surely be an electrifying experience. His performance includes Kiss classics, solo material from a four decades long career, and songs from his latest album Space Invader.
Anyone who’s heard Space Invader knows Ace still has what it takes to rock an arena. The critically-acclaimed album has been praised for its pure unadulterated rock power and reflection of the guitarist’s former years with Kiss. It shows Frehley continuing to grow in his craft and truly is an extension of his years with the glam rock kings.
Although Ace is definitely the center of attention, his touring band is nothing to balk at either. Guitarist Richie Scarlet is well-known for sharing the stage with Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, Alice Cooper,...

One thing is undeniable ... Audrina Patridge is pretty ... out of tune when it comes to singing -- but that didn't stop her from rocking a legendary stage in Las Vegas this weekend. The former "Hills" star went to Rock n' Roll Fantasy Camp at the House of Blues in Vegas and got to perform an original song with actual rockstar, Lita Ford. It's unclear how many days Audrina spent at the camp -- but she...

Having read this article on What Culture about “10 Phenomenal Guitarists That Deserve Your Attention“, which is a brilliant list and the guitarists on it are all phenomenal, I couldn’t help but notice that it is the definition of a sausage-fest. This is not uncommon for lists of great guitarists, or lists of great musicians full-stop.
I could go on and on about how female guitarists are often overlooked despite being pretty goddamned incredible, but I won’t, because if you don’t know that already then you can leave. Instead I invite you to feast your eyes and ears on ten more phenomenal guitarists who deserve your attention (not just) in 2013, that happen to be women.
I have to admit that there are a lot of lady guitarists that often get overlooked, yet regrettably didn’t make the cut here. I’ve tried to keep this list modern (with...

I really like this idea. Wear Your Music collects used guitar strings from popular musicians, turns them into bracelets, and sells them, with 100% of the net profits going to the musician's charity of choice. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath has donated some of his guitar strings, with the proceeds going to Nordoff Robbins music charity. There are several different styles available, at different price points.
Other musicians of note include Robert Trujillo, Kirk Hammett and James Hetford of Metallica; Lita Ford; and David Ellefson of Megadeth.
Prices start at $100 at WearYourMusic.org

Birthday shoutouts go to Ryan Phillippe (above), who is 39, Colin Firth is 53, and Johnathon Scaech is 44.
Tickets go on sale October 19th for Neil Patrick Harris in the Broadway run of Hedwig
I’m confused. Did Pax Dickinson not expect to get fired for this?
The CW is importing the Canadian sitcom Seed to air in the U.S. “Seed tells the story of Harry (Adam Korson), an underachieving bachelor/bartender who is also a sperm donor. Harry reluctantly begins a relationship with three separate recipient families – a laid-back lesbian couple with a 9-year-old son, a neurotically hopeful single mom-to-be and an uptight, upper-class family with a rebellious teenage daughter – with whom he’ll come to share more than just his DNA.” I know the show has already aired in Canada, so what do our Canadian readers think of it?
Congrats to Rafael Nadal, who I’m informed won his second U.

Moline, Ill. -- A private jet carrying rock bands Ratt and Dokken had to make an emergency landing in northwestern Illinois after smoke was detected in the cabin Saturday afternoon.
Chuck Brennan, a friend of the bands who chartered the flight, told The Associated Press that the plane took off from the Moline airport but pilots had to turn it around when smoke appeared in the front of the plane at about 7,000 feet.
Brennan said the pilots donned oxygen masks and landed the Challenger 601 with no incident. There were no injuries reported by the pilot or the 13 passengers.
"The cabin didn't fill with smoke," said Brennan, the owner of short-term lender Dollar Loan Center.
Brennan, a former promoter who opened the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy in his hometown of Sioux Falls, S.D., said he had chartered the plane out of Santa Ana, Calif., for a four-city tour.

Let's be thankful for this: Iron Man is a successful superhero franchise starring a 47-year-old actor and his 40-year-old love interest. In an age when even Lara Croft has to be recast with a younger actress, it's somehow easy to forget this is pretty cool.
That said, the new trailer for Iron Man 3 looks like a standard-order comic book flick with explosions, nefarious glances, metallic outfits, and growled one-liners galore. Whatever, I'll still list what seems exciting about it below.
1. Hey, Robert Downey Jr. is still hot!
2. Hey, Don Cheadle is still hot!
3. Uh, that gurgled "You'lllll neverrrr see meeee coming" is terrifying. I don't like thinking about it.
4. It comes out May 3. Hey, that's only two months away! Hey, Summer Is Coming.
5. This.
Whenever Gwyneth Paltrow looks even slightly like Lita Ford, we all win.
Are you excited?

This may be my new favorite video of Neil Patrick Harris. He's co-producing an interactive experience in L.A. called "Delusion: The Blood Rite," and tries to take a tour of the mansion they're using. He's just so adorable.
