A guy walking down the street is a common everyday sight. I even did it myself earlier today, traveling from my apartment to the cafe to write this article, but few of us regular blokes can make it as cool as our counterparts in the movies. Whether we're talking about the doomed death march of "The Wild Bunch," the gang strolling off their breakfast in slow-mo in "Reservoir Dogs," or Richard Roundtree prowling the streets in "Shaft," this simple act of locomotion, developed millions of years ago by our early ancestors, can become iconic when captured on film.
John Badham's disco relic "Saturday Night Fever" opens with one of the most famous struts in cinema history as Tony Manero (John Travolta), looking sharp as he swings a can of paint, checks out women, and orders a double slice of pizza swaggers through a gritty Brooklyn neighborhood to "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees.

When “Step Up” star Jenna Dewan was asked to recreate a famous “Saturday Night Fever” dance with Emmy-winning “Dancing With the Stars” regular Derek Hough for the special “Step Into…The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough,” she couldn’t say yes fast enough.
“Nick Florez and Rj Durell, who are producing and directing, approached me and it was an immediate, ‘How can I say no to this?'” Dewan told TheWrap. “We’ve known each other for many, many years. They just know me and know what I love.”
In the dance scene, set to The Bee Gees’ “You Should Be Dancing,” Hough hip-swivels in a replica of John Travolta’s famous white suit, while Dewan is sultry in red as his partner, who was played by Karen Lynn Gorney in the 1977 film.

Chicago – A film that made its world premiere in Chicago – at the 2018 Cinepocalypse Film Festival – is making its way into the national consciousness. “Empathy, Inc.,” directed by Yedidya “Jed” Gorsetman, has a theatrical run in the first half of September, (including Chicago) before the release with Video-On-Demand on 9/24.
Jed Gorsetman collaborates with screenwriter Mark Leidner for the second time, after they debuted with “Jammed” in 2014. “Empathy, Inc.” came out of their workshopping of ideas, and combines science fiction, ambition and relationships in a skewered black and white world. The tone of the film is dark and funny, as a start-up company called Empathy, Inc. goes a bit farther with their product than anyone can imagine.

Director Yedidya Gorsetman and scenarist Mark Leidner’s first feature “Jammed” was a well-reviewed (if little-seen) comedy set in the twirlydancing stoner universe of a jam-band festival. Their sophomore effort does an about-face from that rainbow tie-dye milieu to the monochrome severity of a black-and-white neo-noir. But surface aesthetics are hardly the only factor that shifts in “Empathy, Inc.,” a clever indie suspense that draws on fantasy-tinged notions of virtual reality and identity exchange to create an ingenious tale more in the realm of an intimately-scaled thriller than sci-fi. Opening on a single Los Angeles screen on Sept. 6, with more cities added Sept. 13 and VOD launch on the 24th, this arresting tale should not only prove a career leg-up for all involved, it might also attract remake offers.

"Walk a mile in the shoes of the less fortunate, and when you wake up, no matter what problems you have in your real life – feel that much better." Dark Star Pictures has debuted an official trailer for a rad indie sci-fi thriller titled Empathy, Inc., from writer/director Yedidya Gorsetman (of Jammed previously). This first premiered at Cinepocalypse last year, and also played at the Brooklyn Horror Festival, plus Austin and Philadelphia Film Festivals. Empathy, Inc. is about an investor in a Vr startup – using a technology called "Xtreme Virtual Reality" – who discovers that the reality the company provides isn't so virtual. Not entirely original, but a cool idea anyway. Starring Zack Robidas, Kathy Searle, Jay Klaitz, Eric Berryman, Aj Cedeno, Charmaine Reedy, Fenton Lawless, Anthony Mangano, and Karen Lynn Gorney. This has such a nifty, lo-fi look and feel – like Pi or Primer, mashed up together with virtual reality and startups.

Director John Badman looks back at his disco classic four decades later...
Saturday Night Fever is the film that made John Travolta into a legitimate star, launched the Bee Gees to the pinnacle of pop success and introduced the world to the subculture, music and fashion of disco dancing - specifically the scene in the clubs of the insular blue collar Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bay Ridge. The movie made the scene and music into a national phenomenon that lasted several years, until the disco craze petered out in the early '80s.

It appears that Adrian Garcia Bogliano’s English language debut got a longer title for it’s DVD/Blu-ray Release, now known as Late Phases: Night of the Lone Wolf. An interesting and sometimes successful throwback to a fine tradition of genre cinema, Bogliano owes a great deal of this to Nick Damici, an actor featured prominently in the films of Jim Mickle. Considering the budget, several of the special effects sequences are quite impressive. Premiering at South By Southwest in 2014, a November theatrical release saw a mixed critical reception.

Silver Bullet Band: Bogliano’s English Debut Nontransformative Nostalgia
After the surprising critical success of his 2012 title Here Comes the Devil, Spanish director Adrian Garcia Bogliano makes his English language debut with Late Phases, a somewhat droll werewolf exercise paying heavy homage to several notable genre titles from the 1980s. Entertaining but never as funny or thrilling as this concoction sometimes promises, for those familiar with Bogliano’s earlier titles (this marks his eleventh feature, plus a handful of short films), it’s considerably polished in comparison even if it lacks the pizzazz that such a derivative subgenre requires.
A blind war veteran, Ambrose (Nick Damici) has been relocated to a quaint retirement community, deposited unceremoniously by his son (Ethan Embry). Ambrose chats with his friendly neighbor lady Delores (Karen Lynn Gorney), but she, along with his trusty canine, is ripped to shreds later that very night by a lycanthrope.

Chicago – The Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show yields many surprise guests, and it is the actresses who often have the most interesting stories. Tippi Hedren (”The Birds”), Stella Stevens (original “The Nutty Professor”) and Karen Lynn Gorney (”Saturday Night Fever”) shared their insights.
All three actresses crossed into different generations. Hedren of course is known for her early 1960s work with Alfred Hitchcock, Stevens worked with both Elvis Presley and Dean Martin, and Gorney was one of the most famous dance partners in movie history when she twirled at the disco with John Travolta.
The Hollywood Celebrities & Memorabilia Show is a biannual event that brings celebrities to Chicago to meet, sign autographs and interact with their admirers. Hosts Ray and Sharon Court announced at the March show that the upcoming October show in Chicago would be their last, as they are retiring.

Sometimes a movie can start off perfectly well and maybe even sustain your interest for a good part of the running time and then Boom it suddenly turns for the worse. Here's a very good example: I recently rented Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever written and directed (and featuring a short, "Cobra"-looking cameo from) Sylvester Stallone. Why I would rent this movie, which has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is none of your concern. Okay, it's for a project involving '80s movies set in NYC. Anyway, a critical score that terrible is always worthy of a must-be-seen-to-be-believed glance.
So, I'm watching the movie, and it's really not that bad. I must note that I don't particularly like the original except for the music, and Staying Alive pays off nearly as well as far as cheesy soundtracks go (Sly did his brother Frank a favor by...

Apparently, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will be reteaming to star in a remake of the 1977 classic ‘Saturday Night Fever’. According to Trendhunter Magazine, the title is called "The Fever Returns." John Travolta and Karen Lynn Gorney starred in the original film. The new film will be set in Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire, Britain as opposed to the original's Brooklyn story. Somehow having Orlando Bloom in a role previously played by John Travolta is an oddball decision. The question remains, are Bloom's talents up to the task...
