One of the most anticipated and hottest films of 2024 is finally here. We are talking about Zendaya‘s Challengers which was memed to death for a threesome scene that was shown in the trailer but if you have seen the film then you know that the brilliance of the film is much more than that one scene. Directed by Call Me By Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, the sports romantic drama follows the story of a talented tennis player Tashi, and her twisted relationship with two tennis players, one of whom is her husband now. Challengers stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead role with Jordan Thompson, Faith Fay, Hailey Gates, and Tierre Diaz starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the story of ambition and toxic relationships in Challengers you should check out these films with similar themes next.

Spoiler Warning: This article reveals major plot points for tonight’s series finale of Preacher on AMC.
Preacher, on paper, seemed like a television pitch that didn’t have a prayer. The fact that Sunday night marked the end of the fourth and final season of the AMC series from executive producers Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg would qualify as a miracle if the show’s brimstone scent and penchant for the profane didn’t disqualify it from general competition.
For four seasons, the show followed the wild-eyed quest of Dominic Cooper’s Jesse Custer, the West Texas preacher with a grim job history. His entire flock in West Texas was flattened and killed when he became possessed by a supernatural entity (who turned out to be the offspring of an unnatural coupling...

In times of political malfeasance, when corruption and self-aggrandizement is the rule of law, political satire can be a tonic or a depressant, but either way necessary. And it seems to me Alexander Payne’s Election (available from Criterion in a beautiful Blu-ray package), is a bracing intellectual tonic pitched perfectly, even though it was made almost 20 years ago, for the era of our current presidential, and perhaps our upcoming constitutional crisis. And though she is front and center and the spark that ignites it, the movie’s tart brilliance and no-holds-barred charge goes beyond Reese Witherspoon’s inspired and fearless performance. Election is, I think, a genuinely great American movie, powered of course by the Little Engine That Could, Witherspoon’s Tracy Flick, but also by a so-far career-best efforts from co-writer-director Alexander Payne (maddeningly inconsistent to date), with a profound assist from his editor, Kevin Tent; and Matthew Broderick,...

Preacher Season 4 Episode 10
Preacher has taken some serious diversions from the comic series over the run of the program, but one thing that hasn't been abandoned by Sam Catlin and company is the anarchic spirit that powered the original Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon series.
Preacher hasn't been a straight adaptation of the comic book ever, and at certain points changes were made that didn't work as intended, but for the most part, Preacher never stopped feeling like Preacher, and while that attitude has carried the show far, the comic makes a few sneaky returns in the finale episode.
It's strange that in a show with a clear-cut villain, said villain escapes the bulk of judgment by the end of the series.

Preacher Season 4 Episode 9
Preacher has always been a show marked by characters having different motivations. Even back in the first season, when Jesse undertakes his initial mission to track down God, Tulip and Cas had their own motivations. As the show has progressed, that hasn't changed. Tulip wants to kill Humperdoo and throw off the end of the world, Cas wants Humperdoo to live, and Jesse still wants to track down God and get answers for His abandonment of the world while stopping the end of said world. Everyone's got their own mission, be it secret or otherwise.

Have I praised Mark Harelik in one of these reviews before? God has more of a presence on the tv show version of Preacher than he ever did in the comic, presumably because the show has a smaller cast of characters and wanted to focus on the most interesting ones. The town of Anneville knew the truth about God—that he’d abandoned his throne and abdicated any responsibility for His creation. This revelation led to almost immediate anarchy as the people of Anneville turned on each other. So one wonders how the entire planet might react not only to the existence of a one, true Creator, but to the notion that he spent a lot of His time tooling around in a latex dog costume.

The hit show Preacher will return tonight with its fourth and final season. The show debut on May 22, 2016. The show is based off a comic book by the same name by creators Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Preacher was developed for television by Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin, and Seth Rogen. Jesse Custer ( Dominic Cooper) is a hard-drinking chain-smoking preacher who, endures a crisis of faith. Jesse becomes infused with an extraordinary power. He embarks on a quest to better understand his new gift and literally finds God, alongside his trigger-happy ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and a new vampire friend, Cassidy( played by Joseph Gilgun) Seth Rogen and the people involved behind the scenes knew Preacher would have a four- season run well in advance. The network made sure they all knewthis would be the final season. Seth Rogen threw out a dig at Got and how their lackluster season ended.

AMC launched a new trailer for the fourth and final season of ‘Preacher’ at this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con.
As the series inches closer to the finale, God’s endgame for the universe begins to click into place. Trapped between heavenly prophecies, hellish prisons, and all-out nuclear war, Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy make their bloody way to the Most High. Whether they can reach God in time — or whether all this carnage is part of His divine plan — will soon be revealed as Preacher barrels towards the end of the world.”
The show’s cast of Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Julie Ann Emery, and Mark Harelik along with executive producer Seth Rogen all showed up to debut the trailer which Rogen stated at a more breakneck pace.

We’ve all met Tracy Flick — the eager-beaver student that charms the right teachers, wins all the awards and corners the big scholarships. Alexander Payne’s witty, perceptive look at High School shows the predicament of a model teacher who can’t help but sabotage a pupil’s run for class president. Reese Witherspoon’s wholly original characterization scores big, and Matthew Broderick plays what is probably his best screen role.

Eugene might be the one trapped in an eternal prison, reliving the worst day of his life in a cell within shouting distance from history’s most infamous dictator, but this week’s “Preacher” suggested that he might not the only one in his own personal Hell.
The pursuit that seemed so noble in the early going of Season 2 has soured somewhat, both on Jesse’s part and in the overall placement of the show. No longer seeking out God in one of the 138 New Orleans area jazz clubs, Jesse and Cassidy stumble on a familiar face when watching late-night TV.
Meanwhile, Tulip faces the horde of henchmen sent to capture her at the close of last week’s episode. Wandering around a mansion filled with minions and spitting children, everyone seems all too eager to ignore her, as if she were someone sentenced to share a bunk next-door to Eugene.

Remember when Sarah Silverman was in Star Trek: Voyager? We salute that and 9 other ace guest turns in the show...
Star Trek: Voyager does not share the good reputation of its predecessors The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, with some fans disappointed that the inherent conflict between Starfleet and Maquis characters was not explored further, others perhaps put off by the really rather dull and occasionally ridiculous second season. However, Voyager was as capable as any other Star Trek series of producing memorable stories and excellent performances, and for those of us for whom it is our favourite branch of the Star Trek franchise (yes, we do exist) it is worth celebrating some of the things it did really well – in this case, the actors and actresses who came to join the show for guest performances.

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I email my manuscript to myself... "They won't jump out of the way." -Laurie After two episodes set largely in Jarden, "The Leftovers" returns to the Tri-State area(*), and to the most divisive of the many divisive elements of season 1, with Laurie and Tommy taking on the Guilty Remnant in "Off Ramp." (*) No, not that Tri-State area, even if Damon Lindelof wrote a "Lost"-themed "Phineas & Ferb" episode. When Laurie's potential book publisher asks her to explain exactly what the Remnant believes and why, he's acting as a stand-in for the many "Leftovers" viewers who didn't understand and/or like what all those chain-smoking ghouls in white jumpsuits were up to last season. And with Laurie finally able to speak — she speaks so much in this episode that you can feel all those words relieved to get out...

When E! network host Maria Menounos and her partner, producer-director Keven Underago, saw footage of This Isn.t Funny in post, they volunteered to join the team of producers. That tie-up could be an asset as the romantic comedy, the directing debut of Canberra-born, Us-based actor and filmmaker Paul Ashton, is launched on the Us festival circuit to help facilitate deals with distributors in the Us, Australia and the rest of the world. Starring Anthony Lapaglia, Gia Carides, Angie Milliken, Katie Page and Ashton, the film will have its world premiere on March 27 at the Cleveland International Film Festival, followed by the Dallas International Film Festival. Ashton, who co-wrote the screenplay with Page, plays Jamie, a perpetual traveller who brims with unfulfilled potential. Page is Eliot, a stand-up comic with a severe anxiety disorder. They fall for each other, romance blossoms then fractures, forcing them to examine their preconceptions about family and identity.

The fourth Jp movie gets a new director: indie filmmaker Trevorrow Colin Trevorrow, whose well-received, (very) low-budget, independently made feature Safety Not Guaranteed won the Screenwriting Award at last year's Sundance Festival, has been named the director of the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel Jurassic Park 4. (Pictured above: Nope, that's not Trevorrow, but the 1993 Jurassic Park's imposing star, Mr. Tyrannosaurus Rex.) Now, why would Universal and executive producer Steven Spielberg bring this particular indie filmmaker aboard the billionaire Jp frachise? Well, why specifically Trevorrow is impossible to say. Yet, it seems clear that his handling of a science-fiction narrative about time travel played an important role in his selection. Another plus: He was surely cheaper than bigger names associated with action films. And let's not forget another crucial aspect of his selection: The director, whose innovative Safety Not Guaranteed was warmly greeted by critics, may bring to the increasingly paleozoic (i.

The only sounds heard leaving "The Normal Heart" were nose blowing and an occasional cry.
The incredible sadness of watching the revival of the play about the outbreak of AIDS and the epidemic that followed should leave us crying.
It should leave us crying for 35 million reasons. Yes, an estimated 35 million people have died from AIDS since 1983.
It should leave us crying because there is no cure.
And it should leave us crying because this is the plague of our time. Those of us old enough to remember when the epidemic was new sit in the theater, trying to not cry from the beginning.
It is impossible.
It is impossible to not remember friends, and for others, lovers, who were strong, handsome young men and turned into skeletons, gasping for air. They died so young and the numbers were so overwhelming.
No one knew where to turn; any crazy potential cure was worth trying,...

Even when grief is overwhelming, funerals can be absurd gatherings full of awkward drama and unintentionally funny ritual by rote. In the case of Eulogy, writer-director Michael Clancy's feature debut, there's no troublesome sadness to get in the way of the quirk factor. Character eccentricities and off-kilter group dynamics play out with a comic vengeance.
Although this black comedy doesn't always achieve its intended laughs and sometimes pushes too hard for them, at its best it offers droll glimpses of the cosmic abyss that often serves as a family's connective tissue. The terrific ensemble cast finds the right deadpan tone to deliver the dysfunction. The presence of Debra Winger will up the draw for niche theatrical audiences, and Eulogy should enjoy a long afterlife on home video.
Unshowy tech contributions, led by DP Michael Chapman (Raging Bull) and editor Richard Halsey (Rocky), put the actors front and center in this concise comic portrait of a clan numbed by disappointment. Winger plays Alice, the oldest, loudest and angriest of the four Collins siblings, returning home to Rhode Island for the funeral of the father they barely knew (Rip Torn). His passing barely dents their self-centered orbits, and even his widow (Piper Laurie) responds with a vacant impassiveness, notwithstanding a couple of badly misfired suicide attempts.
The unlikely voice of sanity and compassion within the sorry lot is college student Kate (Zooey Deschanel, exuding practicality and emotional translucence). When she's not struggling to write the eulogy her clear-eyed grandmother requested, she's avoiding neighbor Ryan (Jesse Bradford), confused over the romantic turn their lifelong summer friendship has taken.
Kate's father, Dan (Hank Azaria), is an adult-film actor looking through a cannabis haze for his big break, having reached his show business zenith in a peanut butter commercial at age 8. Skip (Ray Romano) is a lawyer of sorts with a most unfortunate mustache, and adolescent twins (Curtis and Keith Garcia) who, when they're not being plain evil, toss around sex-talk swagger as though they've listened to Howard Stern one too many times.
The twins take a sudden interest in the gathering when their feisty aunt Lucy (Kelly Preston) shows up with her easygoing "life partner," Judy (Famke Janssen). This rather forced self-introduction is the first sign that Clancy is going to use the lesbian relationship a bit too insistently. While Alice's three children cower in silence and her husband (Mark Harelik) burbles incoherently, she all but puts Lucy and Judy on trial. By the time they announce their wedding plans, you can only wonder why the brides-to-be would want this variously mean-spirited and clueless bunch at the festivities.
But the utter irrationality of family is Clancy's point. It's no wonder Grandma sees no reason to explain her eagerness to check out. And while her suicide attempts aren't as, well, funny as they're meant to be, they do land her in the inexpert care of a dippy nurse (Glenne Headly, in sweet ditz mode) who turns out to be a crucial figure from Alice's past.
As good as it is to see Winger onscreen, her character is too strident a conception, the explanation for her malice a bit too easy. But to Clancy's credit he doesn't try to tie it all up with a feel-good ending. The dark undercurrents remain as the Collinses bid Dad farewell. The twins are still obnoxious. And Romano's Skip is still sporting that mustache.

After a couple of major misfires ("Dead Man on Campus", "200 Cigarettes"), MTV Films goes to the head of the class with "Election", a sharp, funny, bracingly on-the-money high school satire.
A winning sophomore effort from "Citizen Ruth" director Alexander Payne, boasting a deliciously driven performance by ever-dependable Reese Witherspoon as a take-no-prisoners overachiever, this subversive suburban send-up is easily the best among the recent spate of teen screen candidates.
Given the glut of youth-oriented product, strong reviews and Witherspoon's solid fan base may not ensure a landslide victory, but enthusiastic word-of-mouth should translate into respectable boxoffice tallies.
Adapted by Payne and "Citizen Ruth" collaborator Jim Taylor from a Tom Perrotta novel, the picture is set against the backdrop of a heated high school election.
Having lent her indomitable spirit to nearly every committee and club at George Washington Carver High, scarily ambitious Tracy Flick (Witherspoon) has her sights set on the student government presidency.
A one-person Up With People, Tracy's latest quest appears to be a cakewalk -- that is, until mild-mannered teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick, in one of his best film roles in years) decides to intervene.
It seems Tracy, whose hushed-up affair with fellow teacher Mr. Novotny (Mark Harelik) effectively ended his academic career and marriage, is beginning to make similar advances in Mr. McAllister's direction. If elected, she'll be working closely with him in his capacity as student government adviser. Deciding to take action, McAllister persuades sidelined football hero Paul Metzler (Chris Klein), a bit of a dim bulb with a likable, "gosh, gee whiz" personality, to run against her.
Soon, a third hat is thrown into the ring when Paul starts going with the former crush of his vengeance-seeking, rebellious lesbian sister Tammy (delightful newcomer Jessica Campbell).
Meanwhile, McAllister seems to be spending more time doing chores for lonely Mrs. Novotny (Delaney Driscoll) than he is with his overlooked wife (Molly Hagan).
Payne handles the swirling comic activity with deft aplomb, playfully integrating voice-overs, sustained freeze frames and cleverly chosen musical cues to bitingly original effect. While the progressively twisted pace loses some of its adrenaline toward the end -- 10 minutes less could have made a noticeable difference -- it's a minor quibble.
With the unspoken but obvious joke of having Broderick return to high school as a meek teacher some 13 years after wreaking havoc as Ferris Bueller, only to meet his match in bad-girl-in-goody-goody-clothing Witherspoon, "Election" knows how to pick its sparring partners.
Top vote-getters also include James Glennon's assured camera work, which manages to achieve vivid results despite the high school corridor fluorescent lighting; Jane Ann Stewart's disturbingly familiar production design; and costume designer Wendy Chuck's knack for using a couple of short-sleeved shirts and ties to illustrate the extent of the average teacher's accessorizing skills.
