A year and a half ago, we heard that M. Night Shyamalan was producing the thriller The Vanishings at Caddo Lake, which was being directed by the duo of Celine Held and Logan George – who made their feature directorial debut with the 2020 drama Topside and went on to direct episodes of Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series Servant. That movie, which now has the shorter title Caddo Lake, still doesn’t have a release date… but it does have a rating. The Motion Picture Association’s ratings board has given Caddo Lake a PG-13 for some disturbing/bloody images, thematic elements, and brief strong language.
Shyamalan has only made two R-rated movies (The Happening and Knock at the Cabin), so it’s not surprising to hear that this Shyamalan-produced project has earned a PG-13.

"You think it's my fault that you're an addict?" Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for the addiction drama titled Four Good Days, which originally premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival. It's getting a theatrical release later this spring. Based on a true story by the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Eli Saslow, 31-year-old Molly begs her estranged mother Deb for help in fighting a fierce battle against the demons that have derailed her life. A mother helps her daughter work through four crucial days of recovery from her substance abuse. Powerhouse performances from Glenn Close and Mila Kunis anchor director Rodrigo García's poignant and unpredictable chronicle of mother and daughter fighting to regain the love and trust that once held them together. Also starring Stephen Root, Joshua Leonard, Sam Hennings. This looks like an intense film about how hard it is to stay clean, and how much love matters in every way.

'The Aviator' movie with Leonardo DiCaprio as bizarre billionaire Howard Hughes: Bloated biopic. 'The Aviator' movie review: What's not good for the Spruce Goose… Imagine Citizen Kane directed by the Steven Spielberg of The Color Purple, Schindler's List, Amistad, and Saving Private Ryan. The final result would look something like a Barry Levinson film – for instance, the superficial and phony Bugsy. Or, an even more appropriate example, the superficial, phony, and bloated The Aviator. Except, of course, that Levinson is not the man responsible for the 2004 mega-production starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the eccentric, billionaire ladies' man Howard Hughes. Strangely enough, that man is Martin Scorsese, the director of hard-hitting films such as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Gangs of New York. Scorsese, a fan of Old Hollywood, apparently wanted to have some fun with the reported $110 million budget (approx. $138 million in 2016) made available to him. The director no doubt had a ball while making The Aviator,...

Released during the high point in Full Moon’s relationship with Paramount Pictures, Seedpeople was heavily advertised on its original UK release back in 1992, with ads appearing in many of the horror magazines of the period – including full page ads on the back and inside cover of The Dark Side (which ran for months on end I recall). The film itself wasn’t as successful as the other notable franchises in the Full Moon stable, with many reviews at the time noting that the film was a rip-off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and essentially that’s what the movie is: a tongue-in-cheek alien invasion flick that echoes the feel of low-budget sci-fi flicks of the 1950s.

Boy, it is not a good month if you’re on a crappy TV show. First NBC’s “The Playboy Club” was cancelled (did anyone watch that?), today we got word that ABC’s newly rebooted “Charlie’s Angels” got the boot, and now, TNT has decided to cancel their sophomore show “Memphis Beat” after two seasons. The cop drama, that starred Jason Lee, Sam Hennings and DJ Quall, centered on on Dwight Hendricks, a quirky Memphis police detective with an intimate connection to the city, a passion for blues music and a close relationship with his mother. “TNT has decided not to pick up a third season of Memphis Beat,” the network said through a spokesperson. “The network thanks everyone involved in the production of Memphis Beat for their work on the series, including the great cast and crew. TNT wishes everyone the best.” This is the third show...

One of my favorite shows last year, Memphis Beat on TNT is coming back tonight, and I'm a little nervous that it may get lost in the shuffle of summer programming. I was already worried last season that we wouldn't get season two, because even though the numbers weren't that bad, it just didn't seem like enough people were talking about it.
For the uninitiated, Memphis Beat stars Jason Lee as detective Dwight Hendricks, an investigator with a laid-back style and passion for music. His particular brand of not exactly playing by the rules (a necessity of detective-focused shows) stems uniquely from almost an overemphasis on his need to oversee Memphis' care.
The show's blend of music, charm, and Memphis as character, make for a police show like no other, and the supporting cast shines in a way that adds credibility to the general idea of honoring ensemble performances.

Chicago – Jason Lee, best known as the star of “My Name is Earl,” took a different direction last year when he took the lead as a police detective in “Memphis Beat.” The second season premiere is June 14th on TNT Network.
TV Rating: 3.0/5.0
All the characters on the show seem more comfortable in their roles, the pacing is more relaxed and the show is improved, but the common elements seen in every cop show since “Dragnet” – tough but benign department head, detective who plays by his own rules, in-station comic relief – remains proportionately intact in this by-the-book police drama.
The second season premiere starts with a tragic bang – a Memphis cop has been murdered and dumped by the Mississippi River. Detective Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee) is on the case, backed by his partner Charlie “Whitehead” White (Sam Hennings). Memphis Beat is opening up its palette on season two, in more ways that one.
That's how star Sam Hennings teased the episodes to come, as I chatted with him this week about the upcoming return of the TNT hit.
"It's a richer season," Hennings said. "You're gonna see more police work, a wider pallette of music. You're gonna get to know and understand each character a little more than you did last year."
As for his character in particular?
"You'll see a confrontation between Rice and Whitehead on the premiere. It will create tension that lasts through the first five episodes."
The city of Memphis itself has seen plenty of tension this spring, of course, as it faced massive flooding in April. Hennings said the show won't address that real-life development directly, but...
"Episode nine does take place with a huge storm hitting the city. We deal with the evacuation process.

The legend of Samuel Colt has been part of "Supernatural" mythology since Season 1, when the Winchesters first procured the Colt .45 that would ultimately kill the Yellow-Eyed Demon.
In Friday's episode, "Frontierland," we meet the man behind the myth when Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go back in time for the third time. We got the chance to preview the episode, so here's the scoop on what's in store for you on Friday night at 9 p.m. Est on The CW.
Yes, there are plenty of "Back to the Future: Part 3" references, just like we'd hoped -- including Dean calling himself Eastwood. In fact, the episode has a lot of really humorous moments. Most mythology-heavy episodes tend to steer away from the humor, but this episode perfectly balances laughs with high-stakes drama. Dean's sheer delight at the opportunity to explore the Old West is a blast to watch...

"Supernatural" might do a musical like what "Grey's Anatomy" did. Executive producer Bob Singer tells TVLine that he is poised to make a musical episode although he finds it "risky". He shares, "Musicals are really risky ground, but we do talk about it."
Singer goes on claiming that the idea has been there even before Ryan Murphy successfully brought musical drama "Glee". "From year one, there have been two things we've talked about: How do you do a musical? And how do you do a cartoon?" he explains, revealing a possible animated episode for The CW show. "We haven't found a way to do either one of those yet, but I'm sure it'll come up in conversation for next season, an animated show or a musical."

Ryan (Jonathan Togo) moonlights as a security guard and looks at the tank containing jellyfish. When asked by the other security man if he's doing his job, Ryan remarks, "...feel at ten grand a plate there aren't many murderers" at the charity event. The security man spots a 'bad man' because of his moves, "like he's stalking prey." Referring to Jesse (Eddie Cibrian). So Jesse's character could have gone either way at this point in the season, he could either have been all bad or all good and no shades of grey in between. Ryan asks for ID from Jesse. Ryan says Jesse, "looks gorgeous in your tux." Hey, Ryan didn't know you felt that way, ha. Jesse watches a woman and then denies he knows her, but Ryan insists she knows Jesse. A man hangs over the balcony above the tank and falls into the jellyfish, which pounce and kill him.

The Winchester brothers are about to meet the man who made the legendary Colt that kills nearly any creature, supernatural or otherwise. On an upcoming episode of the CW’s Supernatural, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will take a trip into the Old West to meet the Samuel Colt. The brothers seek out Colt’s help to “deal with the angry spirit of Elias Finch.” Sam Hennings (Memphis Beat) has been cast to play the role of Colt.
Executive producer Sera Gamble talks about the Colt episode:
“[Samuel Colt]’s an iconic character for the show, and has been since season one. We’ll be meeting him later in his life, after many years of fighting demons and tinkering with magical weapons and Devil’s Gates and such. Time hasn’t been too kind to the guy — which is pretty par for the course, for a hunter.”

"Supernatural's" highly anticipated Old West time-travel episode will bring Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) face to face with Samuel Colt.
Thanks to TVLine, we can now put a face to the legendary name. Sam Hennings, most recently known as Charlie White of "Memphis Beat," will play Colt. "He's an iconic character for the show, and has been since season one," Sera Gamble tells TVLine. "We'll be meeting him later in his life, after many years of fighting demons and tinkering with magical weapons and Devil's Gates and such. Much about Colt remains a mystery. We do know that he built the gun that killed Azazel - a gun that can kill almost anything. He also built a giant railroad Devil's Trap to protect the cowboy cemetery devil's gate.

Back when Mallrats was released, I swore I knew Jason Lee from somewhere. I think it was several months before I was alerted to the fact that he was a professional skateboarder, and in case that wasn’t it, I might have seen him in a music video. I didn’t have my finger on the pulse back then.
I didn’t get much out of Mallrats, but I had oddly high hopes for Lee. It took a bit for him to get going, but then nice turns in Kissing a Fool, Mumford, and Almost Famous gave me a certain sense of satisfaction. Then, for several years, I started to get rather irritated by him. All I could think was that he has better work in him, but all I kept getting was Dreamcatcher, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl.

(Publisher's Note: Because an occasional contributor to this site, Angelina Burnett, is a staff writer on "Memphis Beat," I won't pretend I can be completely unbiased in reviewing the show. I'll try, though. If you're so inclined, take this review with a grain of salt.)
"Memphis Beat" is the latest in the TNT original programming formula: Take a very recognizable actor, usually someone on the career decline, and build a slickly generic show around them. Bonus points for (bad) Southern accents. The results, so far, have been mostly watchable, time-killing summer viewing, the best of which is probably "Leverage," with "Dark Blue" close behind.
"Memphis Beat" is similar in execution -- Jason Lee fills the recognizable actor role -- but instead of that trademark over-serious, over-dramatic plodding TNT tone, there's some breezy airiness to "Beat," which pushes it closer to USA Network fare -- for the better, I'd say. Lee stars as Dwight Hendricks,...

Chicago – There have been TV cops in New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and even Hawaii, 5-0, so it stands to reason that Memphis, Tennessee, would get its turn. Jason Lee (“My Name is Earl”) and Alfre Woodard are on the “Memphis Beat,” premiering June 22nd on the TNT Network.
TV Rating: 2.5/5.0
Lee portrays Memphis plainclothes detective Dwight Hendricks, an unconventional (are there any other type of TV cop?) who seems not just to live and work in Memphis, but completely embody the town within his DNA. As Dwight and his detective partner ‘Whitehead’ (Sam Hennings) are introduced, they are investigating a brutal convenience store robbery. There is some comic relief among the carnage, though, as a Barney Fife-type uniform Officer Sutton (DJ Qualls).
