In the world of television, a “pilot” episode is the one chance you have to make or break your show getting to air. If it doesn’t make the cut, it’s consigned to the film vault of history, never to be seen. It’s extremely unheard of for a franchise to get two pilots. Star Trek: The Original Series being one of those rare second chances.
Bafflingly it’s been assumed for years that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had three pilots. As Tony Oliver, co-writer and developer of the Power Rangers pilot, first revealed at Power Morphicon in 2007, “the pilot episode, which turned into the first episode [“Day of the Dumpster”], they actually did three times.”
That means they shot three separate pilot episodes, right? Well, yes, but also no. It’s very complicated so we did the biggest deep dive research on the Power Rangers pilot ever. What we uncovered changes everything...

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is everything fans could have hoped for in a celebration of 30 years of "Power Rangers." This is a special that is full of fanservice, Easter eggs from even the deepest of deep cuts from across "Power Rangers" lore, and all sorts of cheesy jokes and cool martial arts moves — including Hip-Hop kido.
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" takes place after the death of one of the Rangers, with the rest mourning a loss of one of their own as Rita Repulsa returns in a new robot body to wreak chaos across the globe. Meanwhile, a new Ranger rises to take the mantle of the old generation, because Power Rangers are forever.
This is a special full of cool moments and loving homages to the franchise, including a rather emotional coda that pays tribute to two fallen rangers, Jason David Frank and Thuy Trang.

This post contains spoilers for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always."
It should come as no surprise that "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is completely filled with nostalgia. Unlike most other anniversary specials for the beloved tokusatsu franchise, "Once & Always" does not feature several iterations of Power Rangers meeting, like "Forever Red" or "Once a Ranger." Instead, this is entirely focused on the first series in the franchise, the multi-season "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and its two generations of Rangers.
The special focuses on the return of Rita Repulsa, who has got herself a new robot body and brings tragedy to the Rangers. When Repulsa's armies start attacking Rangers around the world, new heroes will rise and the Power Rangers will see their legacy and their abilities tested. "Once & Always" sees the return of Zack Taylor (Walter Jones) and Billy Cranston (David Yost) from the first team, as...

This Power Rangers: Once and Always review contains spoilers.
Power Rangers: Once and Always, with a brisk hour-long runtime, does the impossible for a nostalgia focused special. It isn’t concerned with playing solely to cheap memories and easy jokes for casual fans, and isn’t obsessed with deep fan lore, either. Its primary focus is instead on just being the next entry in these characters’ lives. It’s doing something new and not just playing the hits.
The special most closely follows Blue Ranger Billy (David Yost) and Black Ranger Zack (Walter Emanuel Jones). We check in on their lives and see them in new situations. After the death of Yellow Ranger Trini, Zack takes on guardianship of her daughter, Minh (Charlie Kersh). It’s a wonderful new side of Zack that still highlights the character’s familiar warmth and charm. His interactions with Minh are the best part of the special,...

Let's get something out of the way first. "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is not where you want to start as a newcomer to the "Power Rangers" franchise. It is also not a wildly different reimagining of the '90s juggernaut — so don't expect a gritty reboot like the Joseph Kahn and Adi Shankar short film. Instead, what this offers is a nostalgia-filled special that is not particularly different from the many, many, many other anniversary crossover specials the franchise has done over the years.
What does make "Once & Always" different and notable is that it is entirely focused on the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" iteration rather than trying to tie in the past with the future. And even if this is still as cheesy as the original '90s show, it does have some edge to it that makes it stand out — plus a loving tribute to fallen Rangers.

It’s been 30 years since “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” premiered, but Amy Jo Johnson, who played the original Pink Ranger, isn’t finished with the franchise quite yet.
After raising $250,000 in less than 24 hours via a Kickstarter campaign for the “Power Rangers: A 30th Anniversary Comic Book Celebration,” Johnson will write a brand new “Power Rangers” comic book series with publisher Boom Studios, Variety can exclusively announce.
Debuting the series next year, Johnson collaborated with her partner and director Matt Hotson to co-write it. She recalls coming up with the idea before the pandemic hit in 2020. “I was daydreaming about it and mentioned it to my boyfriend, Matt. He said, ‘Why don’t you try to write it as a comic book?'” Johnson tells Variety. “We had all the time on our hands, so we daydreamed up this entire comic book series knowing the 30th anniversary was coming.”

"Please stop saying I didn't do reunion because of money. Simply not true," she wrote.
"Maybe I just didn't want to wear spandex in my fifties."
"Or I couldn't travel to New Zealand to film for a month. Or perhaps it's none of [your] beeswax."

The “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” are reuniting with revenge over Rita Repulsa on their minds in Netflix’s 30th anniversary special.
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” which launches April 19 on Netflix, follows the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ quest for vengeance 30 years after Zordon formed the team. While in the midst of a global crisis, a previous threat resurfaces as Rita Repulsa sets her sights on the group.
“After all these years, I found a new body” Rita Repulsa says in the trailer as the Blue Ranger Billy Cranston (David Yost) is in disbelief, saying, “No, it can’t be.” “It’s time for revenge,” Rita Repulsa declares before delivering a devastating blow that leaves the rangers reeling.
The special’s trailer also reveals Rita Repulsa is responsible for the death of Trini, the original Yellow Power Ranger, as Trini’s daughter, Minh (Charlie Kersh), states “she killed mom — we gotta destroy her.

The upcoming Power Rangers reunion, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, will arrive this spring, but not every cast member from your childhood will appear. With the reunion, just a few months from its Netflix debut, Amy Jo Johnson, the Pink Ranger, aka Kimberly Hart, has explained why she will be absent.
On why she’ll be sitting out the much-anticipated Power Rangers reunion, Johnson tweeted, “For the record I never said no…I just didn’t say yes to what was offered. But other fun stuff is in-store! Looking forward to watching my friends kick ass!”

Joining them from Season 2 will be Steve Cardenas who played the second Red Ranger Rocky, and Karan Ashley who played the second Yellow Ranger Aisha, along with Johnny Yong Bosch who played the second Black Ranger Adam. "Power Rangers" is one of the biggest franchises to come out of the '90s. Based on the Japanese franchise "Super Sentai," the "Power Rangers" series follows a group of teenagers chosen to fight evil with the help of super suits and giant robots that morph together to make an even bigger robot.
When it premiered, the series was the closest '90s kids got to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You got a team of superheroes fighting cartoonish villains by punching the hell out of them, with a more diverse team than even the current MCU has.
And just like the MCU, the "Power Rangers" franchise has an expansive universe with a couple of different timelines, and stories that go to space, and travel to different galaxies, yet they all somehow have the same technology as our timeline. Netflix's The Toys That Made Us is returning for a third season, set to cover more plastic icons.

Seasons 1 of the series tackled Star Wars, Barbie, He-Man/Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe, and Season 2 showcased Star Trek, Transformers, Lego and Hello Kitty. Soon, major gaps will be filled with Season 3.

Netflix's The Toys That Made Us is returning for a third season, set to cover more plastic icons.
The Toys That Made Us Season 3 is coming soon, set to dispel the whole “8-part documentary series” mandate from its theme song. Indeed, the success of Netflix’s incisively entertaining toy industry series made it too good to keep in its proverbial packaging, leading the way for Season 3 to tackle more toy titans.
Seasons 1 of the series tackled Star Wars, Barbie, He-Man/Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe, and Season 2 showcased Star Trek, Transformers, Lego and Hello Kitty. Soon, major gaps will be filled with Season 3.

“Judge me all you want, if you took the time to open this review based on the title, The Pink Ranger was Your first love too”
Back in January I brought you all the awesome news that Manga Entertainment UK had secured the rights to distribute the awesome 1993 classic series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on DVD for the first time in the UK… Ever. Obviously as a massive fan of the original series there was no way this was getting by me, You know for Nostalgia and stuff.
Well I got home from my family holiday a short while ago and was psyched to find the full series one boxset on my door mat and wasted no time in tearing through this 6-disc collection of my childhood viewing pleasures (my “Rosebud” if you like). So for anyone who cant remember how great this show was or even what it was...

When a classic or cult favorite TV series is given the big-screen treatment, the filmmakers will usually try to find room for a cameo appearance from an original cast member or two, but that won't be the case with the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. Walter Jones, who played Black Ranger Zack in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, was a guest on the Audibly Exquisite Podcast, and revealed that neither he nor any of his castmates from that show were asked to appear in the film. "It’s not likely," said the actor when asked about the possibility of a cameo. "Unfortunately, we were not invited to be part of the film, which is confusing to me, but I’m excited about the film nevertheless." How do you guys feel about this? Are you disappointed, or do you think it's best if the movie distances itself from the '90s TV series?...
