He lost a role in one major franchise, but gained another. In a recent interview, Josh Hutcherson claims he was almost cast as Kevin McCallister in one of the Home Alone movies.
“I was probably 11, I think, when I auditioned for it,” the 31-year-old actor recalled in an interview at BuzzFeed HQ. “It got down to me and the other guy. That was the first time that I tasted rejection, so that was really hard.”
It would have been a role in one of the later films in the series, following the first two films headlined by Macaulay Culkin. Alex D. Linz starred in 1997’s Home Alone 3, and three other movies followed in the series with different casts.
Hutcherson’s child actor career began with parts on ER and in the TV movie House Blend. Then he was in the 2007 fantasy film Bridge to Terabithia, followd by Journey to the Center of the Earth...

Josh Hutcherson has starred in some memorable projects since starting in the industry as a child, but there’s one role he lost out on that might surprise fans.
During a recent interview with BuzzFeed, the actor revealed he auditioned for one of the Home Alone films when he was younger.
“I was probably 11, I think, when I auditioned for it,” the Five Nights at Freddy’s actor recalled. “It got down to me and the other guy. That was the first time that I tasted rejection, so that was really hard.”
Though Hutcherson didn’t share what installment in the Home Alone franchise he auditioned for, based on the timeline, it would have been one of the newer films. Since the first two movies that Macaulay Culkin is most known for were released in 1990 and 1992, right around when Hutcherson was born.

Few franchises are as controversial as the feel-good Christmas family comedy "Home Alone." The first two films are widely beloved, bonafide staples of the American Christmas movie canon. However, the subsequent sequels — of which there are many — are almost universally despised. Most people haven't seen all of the "Home Alone" movies, and they might be left wondering — are any of the follow-up films worth watching?
Some feel that Macaulay Culkin leaving the franchise after the second film is what set the subsequent movies up for failure. In this critic's opinion, the "Home Alone" entries 3-6 suffer from a lot more than bad casting. However, I watched every "Home Alone" movie so you didn't have to, and I am here to answer some age-old questions. Firstly, is "Home Alone 2" better than the original? And secondly, are any of the follow-up films worth watching? My answer might surprise you.

The Home Alone series is pretty beloved. Well, maybe not all of them, but the first two are considered Christmas classics by pretty much everyone. In the week leading up to Christmas, it’s hard not to come across the first two Home Alone movies on TV, with the Chris Columbus/ John Hughes slapstick comedy movies that have endured for generations of viewers. They made Macaulay Culkin a household name and made Joe Pesci an unlikely comedy star, directly leading to his star roles in movies like The Super and My Cousin Vinny. It also made Daniel Stern a comedy power player for a while, and indeed the films paid significant dividends in the lasting legacies of all three leads.
But, with Culkin’s Kevin aging visibly between the first and second films, the choice was made to replace Culkin in the third, lower-budget movie, with Alex D. Linz our...

As Friday falls on the 25th this week, that means that Santa will be delivering a handful of new Disney Plus releases along with our presents this year.
Yes, Christmas Day sees four fresh titles going up on the Mouse House’s streaming service. That’s a small haul compared to the usual amount, but D+ has loaded up the previous weeks to leave Friday the 25th’s arrivals nice and lean. Maybe to put more emphasis on the latest major movie release coming to the site: Pixar’s Soul. But we’ll get to that in a minute.
The other film becoming available to stream this Christmas Day is Max Keeble’s Big Move, a Disney family comedy from 2001. The forgotten pic stars Alex D. Linz (Home Alone 3) as middle school student Max who decides to go all-out in getting revenge on his bullies when he learns that his family is moving away.

Christmas has come early! Yesterday, Disney Plus added the Home Alone trilogy back to its library as a surprise festive treat for subscribers. The iconic holiday comedy movies were available on D+ at launch last year, but they were removed soon after due to a pre-existing license. That’s now been taken care of, though, so viewers can enjoy the adventures of Kevin McAllister and company once again this Xmas season.
“Surprise, ya filthy animals!” the Disney Plus Twitter account tweeted this Friday. “The Home Alone Collection is Now streaming on #DisneyPlus—it’s our early gift to you.”

Good news, everyone! Disney Plus has announced that the Home Alone trilogy is returning to the Mouse House’s streaming service this very week. The beloved festive family movie franchise was originally available on the site upon its launch last November, but the three films were moved over to HBO earlier this year due a pre-existing contract. With that expired, though, D+ is now adding them to its library again on November 13th.
The 1990 original stars Macauley Culkin in his iconic career-making performance as Kevin McAllister, who protects his household from two bumbling crooks – Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) – when he’s accidentally left on his own at Christmastime. 1992’s Home Alone: Lost in New York then sees Kevin get on the wrong plane to NYC where he stops Harry and Marv from robbing a toy store on Christmas Eve.
Culkin, Pesci, Stern and director Chris Columbus all departed the franchise after that,...

Earlier this month, countless Twitter users came out in support of director Raja Gosnell's Home Alone 3, which stars Alex D. Linz as Alex Pruitt, a nine-year-old Bostonian who must fend off international spies who seek a top-secret chip in his toy car. The 1997 sequel is of course a follow-up to Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, both of which star Macaulay…...

A Home Alone reboot movie is in the works, set for an arrival on streaming platform Disney+.
Disney is seemingly dominating the entertainment industry these days with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and its incredible animation back catalog, emboldened now more than ever with self-distribution grandeur, with streaming service Disney+ (home of Star Wars serial smash The Mandalorian!) providing a platform on which more of its rebooted IP can manifest, as recently exemplified by the debut of its live-action Lady and the Tramp movie.
Home Alone, a piece of property cheese nabbed by the monolithic Mouse in the company’s recent acquisition of Fox, happens to be on the docket for a Disney+ reboot treatment, joining similarly-fated properties in Night at The Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid; a reveal made by big boss Bob Iger at a Q3 earnings call back in August,...

Amazon emailed me this morning with some sweet Cyber Monday deals (we’re tight like that – Amazon also texted to see if I wanted to catch Drive tomorrow night but I was like “Saw it already, sorry!” and Amazon hasn’t texted back yet but I think he’s at work). Most of the deals were outlandishly cheap, and the link even included personalized recommendations for me (!!!special!!!), but one of the recommendations caught my eye, and not for its cheapness, but because the title threw my face into Marvlike, blank-stare confusion. Why would I want a four-disc set entitled Home Alone: The Complete Collection? Four movies?? Is it Home Alone 1 and 2 on regular DVD and Blu-Ray? Because as all of us true Home Alone fans know, that timeline Ends as soon as Kevin gets found in New York, period, and those other two “Alone” films do not count.

With the fall season's heavy hitters already starting to make an appearance, this week's feast of indie offers some calm before the big studio storm. Enjoy it while it lasts.
"Ashes of Time Redux"
Celebrated Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai gathered together lost and damaged footage to painstakingly rework his only martial arts epic, first released in 1994, into a fresh, definitive edition (complete with an all new score from Yo-Yo Ma). With a blindingly colorful palette, Wong paints a looping, stylized portrait of an embittered agent Ouyang Feng (the late Leslie Cheung) who channels the unbearable pain of a broken heart into commissioning bounty hunters to commit acts of vengeance. Tony Leung Ka Fai, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau and Jacky Cheung round out the still-impressive cast.
Opens in New York and Los Angeles.
