Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter” is being pushed back from its August release, moving to Dec. 13, 2024. It will screen in IMAX and premium large formats.
The film takes over “Karate Kid’s” original release date, which has been changed to May 30, 2025. It will now bow in theaters after the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai” debuts on Netflix.
With a coveted Christmastime release date open, Sony is positioning “Kraven” as an R-rated option for the end of the year.
Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, “Kraven the Hunter” unpacks the origin story behind the Marvel villain, set before his notorious vendetta against Spider-Man. Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott and Russell Crowe also star.
The film is directed by J.C. Chandor, with a story by Richard Wenk and screenplay by Wenk, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. It’s produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and David Householter.

Sarah Polley — who earlier this year won the best-adapted screenplay Oscar for her feature Women Talking — is in talks to direct the live-action Bambi film for Disney, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The project is still in development, but should it happen, it would join Disney’s lucrative classic animation–to–live-action roster, the most recent addition to which was The Little Mermaid, which has made over $400 million at the box office to date.
The Bambi project was first reported in 2020, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) set to pen the screenplay and Depth of Field, the production banner run by Chris and Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano, on board to produce. It’s unclear if this team is still in place. (Depth of Field worked with the studio on Robert Zemeckis’ take on another classic animation, Pinocchio.)

Disney’s return to live-action takes of their animated vault in the fullest theatrical form happens this weekend with Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid which is eyeing a $180M worldwide start.
The majority of that number will be made stateside with $120M for the four-day Memorial Day weekend holiday, and around $100M over three days. At $120M, Little Mermaid would be the fifth highest opening in U.S./Canada for the Friday-Monday Memorial Day weekend holiday. Pic’s overseas launch in such major markets, save Japan on June 9, begins today in France, Italy, Korea, Brazil, Germany, the UK, Spain and China joining in subsequent days. For those keeping track, Cruella was the last live-action adaptation of a Disney animated pic (she was the villain in 101 Dalmatians), however, it went day and date over Memorial Day weekend 2021 when theaters were just reopening for the summer from Covid.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

Like Winnie the Pooh before him, the now public-domain Bambi is getting his own horror retelling.
DIrector Scott Jeffrey (“The Mutation”) is partnering with producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who helmed and wrote the upcoming and already notorious “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”, to make “Bambi: The Reckoning,” billed as a “dark retelling” of the classic childhood cartoon, website Dread Central reports.
As if the original 1942 “Bambi” isn’t horrific enough — the title fawn witnesses the traumatic murder of his mother by an unseen hunter — Jeffrey told the outlet that the film will reimagine Bambi as a “vicious killing machine.” Will the sweet-faced deer be seeking to avenge his beloved mum’s death? The plot details are being kept under wraps.

Writer-irector Paul Weitz wrote the sublime road comedy Grandma for Lily Tomlin, and now at the suggestion of Tomlin, he wrote a new film for both Lily and Jane Fonda, one with characters unrecognizable from the pair they played for seven years on the Netflix sitcom, Grace And Frankie, in a story tinged with a dark side, as well as some pungent commentary on the effect of sexual trauma, even nearly a half-century later. This is the kind of movie I love, independently made, using great actors in unexpected kinds of roles, running a tight no-fat 85 minutes, and being thoroughly entertaining with something to say as well.
Fonda plays Claire who is attending the funeral of her old college roommate, Joyce. She meets again with another college friend Evie (Tomlin) and confesses her plans don’t include just attending a funeral to pay respects, but also to kill Joyce’s...

The classic tale of Pinocchio is the latest Disney project to get the live-action treatment, with Tom Hanks reuniting with frequent collaborator Robert Zemeckis for their spin on the wooden boy come to life.
When it came to Geppetto, Hanks wanted to play it a little differently than the kindly old woodcarver of the original 1940 film.
“I think the guy in the original was a little bit more lively and cheerful, and I talked to Bob about this, I don’t think he should be quite so upbeat,” Hanks told The Hollywood Reporter of his approach at the film’s premiere on Wednesday. “And Bob said, ‘Well, just talk to yourself, don’t talk to anybody else.’ And I said, ‘That’s exactly what I was thinking.’ You want to kind of reflect the time and era that we’re in as opposed...

“Why do you want to be real when you can be famous?”
Such is the haunting question at the center of Disney+’s “Pinocchio,” premiering September 8. Co-written and directed by Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis, the live-action/animated hybrid retelling of the beloved classic tale stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the titular wooden doll who dreams of becoming a real boy.

Lorraine Bracco, Luke Evans, Kyanne Lamaya, Jaquita Ta’Le, Giuseppe Battiston, and Lewin Lloyd also star.
Based on the 1883 Italian book by Carlo Collodi and the 1940 Disney movie, the new “Pinocchio” has been in development since 2015. While a slew of writers and...

When you wish upon a star, you just might get the first teaser trailer for Disney’s live action “Pinocchio.” But you won’t get a look at Pinocchio himself in the footage just yet.
In the first-look footage, Tom Hanks is hard at work as Gepetto, with his beloved cat Figaro on hand too. He’s crafting the soon-to-be famous puppet Pinocchio, but as always, is very lonely. So, we see him start to make his ultimate wish. But before we see the puppet come to life, we meet his conscience, Jiminy Cricket.
In fact, Pinocchio isn’t seen at all in the footage, beyond just his hand. Instead, audiences get a tease of all the adventures he’ll have, through the eyes of Jiminy Cricket. But there is someone we do get to see: Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy. We even get a few bars of her...
