Last year, the freshman outing of the Burden of Truth TV show on The CW didn't exactly set the Nielsen ratings afire, but the series, which originates on Canada's CBC, was not cancelled. Just days before the second season debuted, The CW also renewed it for Summer 2020, so the littlest network must be getting enough bang for its buck. Now, can the series bear the burden of The CW's faith in it? Will Burden of Truth be cancelled or renewed beyond season three? Stay tuned.

Often it feels like there are not enough ghost stories based horror films these days, but then when you think about it we’ve had Insidious, Sinister and The Conjuring just to name a few. I’m not sure why I feel there needs to be more but this could be a sign that things need to be shaken up a bit. Saying that though I’ll be reviewing Soulmate soon which is a good old-fashioned ghost story that gets so much right, so most importantly these films just need to be good. Haunter looks to add a little something different to the mix with the question, do ghosts realise they are actually dead?

Telefilm Canada has confirmed its financial support of nearly $13 million of Canadian tax payers' money towards the production of nine English-language feature films through the 'Canada Feature Film Fund', although there doesn't seem to be anything culturally 'Canadian' about most of their selections, other than the crews that will be working on them.
Among the films receiving money include a psycho horror with a demonic 'Santa Claus', a bio pic about a former Queen of Sweden, the 'relationship' between 'James Dean' and a photographer, a thriller involving a Satanic child abuse sex ring, and an inflatable Sex Doll drug smuggling story:
The films are "After the Ball" (Sean Garrity), "A Christmas Horror Story" (Steven Hoban, Grant Harvey, Brett Sullivan), "Aloft" (Claudia Llosa), "A Worthy Companion" (Jason Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez), "Life" (Anton Corbijn), "Regression" (Alejandro Amenabar), "Rest Home" (Michael Rowe), "The Girl King" (Mika Kaurismäki) and "Zoom" (Pedro Morelli...

“Lisa Johnson is one day shy of her sixteenth birthday. And she will be forever. She and her family are dead and doomed to repeat that fateful last day before they were all killed in 1985. Only Lisa has “woken up” and realizes what is going on. She starts to feel as if she is being haunted, but the “ghost” turns out to be Olivia, a very much alive girl who lives in the house in the present day with her own family. With her help, Lisa discovers that the house once belonged to a serial killer who kidnapped teenage girls and burned their remains in a hidden furnace room.

Hider in the House: Natali Turns To Young Adult Thrills
Abandoning the perverse beauty of scientific mutation as last exhibited in his 2010 film, Splice, Canadian director Vincenzo Natali switches genre gears with a vantage point experiment on the haunted house thriller in Haunter. Reteaming with screenwriter Brian King, who wrote Natali’s sophomore film, Cypher, their latest collaboration feels akin to those curious live action young adult Disney films from the 1970s and 80s, with strong comparison that could be drawn between performances here as one could easily see Carroll Baker in the Michelle Nolden role and Bette Davis as Stephen McHattie, except without anything resembling thrills or intrigue.
In 1986, Lisa (Abigail Breslin) and her family are mysteriously killed, doomed to repeat the events of their last day of their lives within the house where something sinister seems to have happened. While Lisa’s parents (Michelle Nolden and Peter...

Time is a fluid thing in the atmospheric Haunter, but it's set mainly in 1985. It's the day before Lisa's 16th birthday. It has been for a while. Lisa (Abigail Breslin) and her wholesomely plain family -- mother (Michelle Nolden), father (Peter Outerbridge), and little brother Robbie (Peter DaCunha) -- seem to be in a Groundhog Day situation, reliving this same day over and over. Only Lisa realizes it, though, along with its corollary: they're all dead. These facts are revealed early in Haunter, a good old-fashioned ghost story (with a few slight formula tweaks) from director Vincenzo Natali. His most famous films, like Cube (1997) and Splice, were far more violent and intense than this one which fits in the genre of gore-free PG-13...

Vincenzo Natali is one of those genre filmmakers who has the rare ability to inspire loyalty in his small but vocal fan base by maintaining an aura of utter fearlessness. The director of ingenious, high concept doodles like "Cube," "Cypher," and most importantly, the envelope pushing, outrageously underrated "Splice," can literally go anywhere or do anything. Unlike his contemporaries, Natali isn't happy to ever be pigeonholed or pinned down. You go to his movies not because you know what to expect, but because what you end up seeing is so unexpected. All of this makes "Haunter," his new "reverse ghost story," a disappointment and a dull, repetitive, utterly confounding chiller."Haunter" starts out promisingly enough, as we watch a young girl Lisa (Abigail Breslin), seemingly in the '80s, go about her daily routine. Her mother (Michelle Nolden) asks her to do the laundry, while her father (Peter Outerbridge) works...

Haunter could have been an ugly little blemish on Abigail Breslin’s resume, but instead she turns it into a chance to prove herself, solidifying that she’s got the acting chops to take a predictable narrative, poor supporting performances and loads of familiar camera tricks and make them watchable.
The year is 1985 and it’s the day before Lisa’s (Breslin) 16th birthday. She wakes up, eats pancakes, does the laundry, has macaroni and cheese for lunch, plays her clarinet and indulges in a meatloaf dinner with her mother (Michelle Nolden), father (Peter Outerbridge), and little brother Robbie (Peter DaCunha). Afterwards, they watch TV, Lisa goes to bed, and then she wakes up does the whole routine all over again. No, Lisa isn’t excessively schedule oriented; she’s trapped, forced to live a single day over and over again. Unable to convince her parents that there’s something seriously wrong going on,...

These new videos join the recent fresh international poster and photos from the upcoming release scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa based on the novel by Stephen King. A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

We have new images in from the Carrie remake, and also a poster is very similar to the first poster we added for the Screen Gems horror remake which opens November 8th. Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass films, Let Me In) and Julianne Moore star where Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie starred in the original 1976 film. This really does look like an eerie film, judging from the trailer. Also on board the cast are Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Gabrielle Wilde, Alex Russell, Michelle Nolden, Max Toppline and Cynthia Preston. Carrie is based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, and helmed by Kimberly Peirce from the script by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

IFC Films has put out a handful of new images, along with a new poster for “Cube” director Vincenzo Natali’s “Haunter”, which is described as a “reverse ghost story”. That means we’re seeing the story play out through the ghost’s perspective instead of through the living girl being haunted, as is usually the case in these haunted house movies. The ghost here is Abigail Breslin of “Zombieland” fame, though later another ghost girl shows up, which is a bit confusing, but there you go. Please to check out the new images and poster. In this reverse ghost story, teenager Lisa Johnson (Breslin) and her family died in 1986 under sinister circumstances but remain trapped in their house, unable to move on. Over a period of six “days”, Lisa must reach out from beyond the grave to help her present-day, living counterpart, Olivia, avoid the same fate Lisa and her family suffered.
