The SAG-AFTRA Foundation announced today that it has raised more than $7.8 million dollars in contributions for its Covid-19 Relief Fund for SAG-AFTRA artists in dire need.
On March 16, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, along with the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players’ Welfare Fund, launched a Covid-19 Relief Fund for SAG-AFTRA members. Since activating the Fund, the Foundation has already given over $5.1 million in emergency financial assistance to more than 5,484 SAG-AFTRA artists and their families with hundreds of applications still in process and thousands of performers still in need.
For over 35 years, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation has been a vital resource for SAG-AFTRA performers seeking emergency financial assistance. But due to what has amounted to a near industry-wide shutdown, thousands of performers have been unable to work, and many second and third survival jobs have also been eliminated during the crisis.

Tom Hanks, one of the first celebrities to contract the coronavirus, is urging his fellow actors to contribute to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Covid-19 Relief Fund, which said Monday it has raised more than $7.8 million in contributions to aid SAG-AFTRA members in dire financial need.
“The devastating effects of Covid-19 are in our own backyard, and we’re doing what we can for our colleagues and collaborators who need help,” said Hanks, a member of the foundation’s Actors’ Council who along with his wife, Rita Wilson, have played major roles in the fundraising efforts. Like Hanks, Wilson tested positive for the virus in March while he was filming Elvis, the Elvis Presley biopic, in Australia.
Others who serve on the Actors’ Council – including Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Bryan Cranston – have joined Hanks in issuing statements calling on the acting community and industry leaders to continue their...

The star of “Airplane!” will captain the SAG Foundation’s annual poker tournament, which is set to take place Aug. 23 at Museum of Flying in Santa Monica. Money raised from the annual Poker Classic goes to support the Don Lafontaine Voice-Over Lab. "I once went up to Don Lafontaine to say hello and he said, 'Oh! I did the "Airplane!" trailer.' So we had worked together and I didn't even know. Boy, he was remarkable," Robert Hays said. "It's so wonderful to have the Don Lafontaine Voice-Over Lab at the SAG Foundation, where voice artists can learn the craft, polish the craft, and make their own work. It’s also remarkable." Paul Pape, who co-founded the Lab, said the late Lafontaine, who was famous for his trailer voiceovers and using the phrase "in a world," would be “pleased” with Hays’ selection as host. “Especially when we run the 'Airplane!

My favorite character in the Star War saga is, hands down, Han Solo. That is because Harrison Ford is a perpetual bad ass and someone that I wanted to be like. With his cool swagger, his ability to jump into action faster than you can say warp speed and his awesome sidekick, who wouldn't want to be like him?
Thanks to Paul Pape you or I could turn ourselves into Han Solo. The only catch is that it would be the Han Solo who gets frozen in carbonite. Pape will specially design a mini-model of you frozen in carbonite.
Thankfully he can do it without the painful freezing process or the temporary blindness after thawing out. All you have to do is send a picture of yourself to Paul at paulpape@gmail.com and you get a model made like the one below in your likeness.

Obviously no one wants to really be frozen in carbonite, but how would you like to have your likeness sculpted into carbonite? For those who don't know, carbonite is the substance Han Solo is frozen into in The Empire Strikes Back. For $50 plus shipping and handling, artist Paul Pape will hand sculpt your likeness into a slab of carbonite, just in time for the holidays. He has pictures on his website and they look pretty good. They're made of sculpey and have been limited to just 200. It's a great idea and I can't figure out why it's taken this long for...

In March 2009, voice actors Paul Pape and Joe Cipriano joined engineer George Whittam to honor Don Lafontaine, their late friend and a voiceover legend, who voiced more than 5,000 movie trailers. With the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, the three worked to create and build the Don Lafontaine Voice-Over Lab, where voice performers can work on their craft and record demos and auditions. The lab is located at the SAG Foundation Actors Center in Los Angeles. After Pape approached Marcia Smith, the foundation's executive director, about the idea, start-up funds were raised over the course of a weekend through contributions from Lafontaine's close friends and co-workers. These contributors later became the lab's advisory board. The SAG Foundation was the perfect partner for turning this idea into reality, says Casey Lewis, construction project manager and the Actors Center's director: "Basically, our mission is to assist, educate, and inspire actors. That's what we do through our programs.

Paul Pape Designs is offering gamers the chance to turn their Xbox Live Avatars into cake statues. The company can create 4.5 inch figurines based on images provided by Xbox users, while it already does the same for Mii likenesses for Wii gamers. Speaking to Kotaku, Pape said that the Mii figures are made from fixed moulds for pouring plastic. Only the hair is directly sculpted for each different product. However, the complexity and variety of customisable (more)...
