Exclusive: Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri’s Compelling Pictures have closed a deal to produce and finance a feature adaptation of Michael Connelly’s recent New York Times bestseller Fair Warning which is being seen as a potential franchise. Connelly will write the screen adaptation and produce alongside O’Sullivan and Kalligheri. Two-time Emmy nominee Jeffrey Pollack (Laurel Canyon) will also produce.
Fair Warning was released this summer and is the third in Connelly’s series of books about investigative journalist Jack McEvoy, who has often been cited as the character most closely resembling the author in real life, with Connelly himself having been a crime reporter for years.
The murder mystery is set around the rapidly evolving ‘wild west’ world of DNA sequence data harvesting; specifically in regard to such data being sold for profit within an industry that has no oversight. It delves into the murky moral questions...

The Xfl is suspending operations and is laying off nearly all employees. Xfl CEO Jeffrey Pollack broke the news to staff in a conference call on Friday morning. The league does not intend to return for the 2021 season. ESPN first reported the news.
Variety obtained audio of the call, in which Pollack says that “it’s been no secret how quickly and dramatically the pandemic has affected all of our lives, the lives of so many others, and and the operations of professional sports leagues in the United States and around the world.”
“The Xfl as an entity has been hard hit and is affected more directly than most in the sport industry,” Pollack told staffers. “We had no alternative than to stop right in the middle of our first season, just as we were continuing to build our foundation and our future. The Xfl has found its president, naming Los Angeles Chargers executive Jeffrey Pollack to oversee the revitalized league’s strategic planning and business operations.
Pollack, who will be COO in addition to president, most recently served as chief marketing & strategy officer and special advisor for the Chargers.

Jeffrey Pollack helped make a lot of people laugh over the years. The director of the comedies Booty Call and Above the Rim died suddenly on Monday in Hermosa Beach, Calif. He was 54. Pollack was found in Greenbelt Park, a popular jogging spot in the area, and was wearing jogging clothes, Lt. Tom Thompson of the Hermosa Beach Police Department confirmed to E! News. Thompson said that nothing about the death appeared unusual and authorities had no reason to suspect foul play. A woman ran into the police station at 6:23 a.m. to report that a man was lying in the Greenbelt area near 30th Street. Pollack was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Management company Handprint Entertainment is shutting its doors at year's end, sources said.
The firm, led by partners Benny Medina and Jeff Pollack, has boasted such high-profile clients over the years as Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Mariah Carey, Kyra Sedgwick, Mekhi Phifer, Usher, Chris Rock, Will Smith, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Nicole Richie.
However, most of those clients have parted ways with the company, with Banks and Usher exiting within the past year. Reports surfaced last month that Carey was the latest to exit the company, but statements from the singer and manager reportedly indicated that, while Handprint would not be managing Carey, the parties would still be working on projects together.
Calls to Handprint for comment were not returned.
