Producers of the upcoming musical comedy Ghost Of John McCain have responded to angry comments made by the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, saying that they will again extend an invitation to Meghan and husband Ben Domenech to attend a reading of the musical before it opens Off Broadway this fall.
“We think they will love it, just as audiences have to date,” said producers Jason Rose and Max Fose in a statement responding to tweets made by Meghan McCain earlier this week in which she called the musical – which she apparently has not seen – “trash” and “a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people.”
As Deadline reported Tuesday, Ghost of John McCain, a musical comedy set inside the brain of Donald Trump, will make its world premiere Off Broadway this fall. The musical, written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola and produced by a team that includes political...

The talent behind the upcoming musical The Ghost of John McCain should not save a front row seat at its premiere for the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, as the former cohost of The View and outspoken pundit took to Twitter this week to denounce the forthcoming off-Broadway show, slam its producers and wish it has no success whatsoever.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the show is slated for a fall premiere at New York’s Soho Playhouse. The self-described “serious and satirical musical” was written by Scott Elmegreen with music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola, and its producers include political strategist Jason Rose and Max Fose, a former McCain campaign consultant.
“This is trash,” McCain wrote of the musical, adding that it’s, “Nothing more than a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people…I hope it bombs.”

In many ways, longtime International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees president Matthew Loeb is the personification of that Teddy Roosevelt adage of “speak softly, and carry a big stick” …well, maybe except for the speak softly part.
“From where I sit, this is really about security in an industry that is precarious already,” Loeb states of the upcoming talks starting March 4 with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on new three-year agreements. “A strike vote is always possible and I can’t rule it out,” the veteran union leader adds of the stakes involved for his members and the latest contract talks.
Heading into joint negotiations with studios with the Lindsay Dougherty-led Hollywood Teamsters and other crafts on Monday, Loeb arrived in LA earlier this week for last minute preparations with his team and other leaders. Fittingly, with support from all the other Guilds, Loeb also came...

Update with Meghan McCain statement: Meghan McCain says her family has not authorized a new, planned musical inspired by – and named after – her late father.
But considering that the in-development musical features fictionalized characters based on public figures, John McCain included, it’s unlikely producers need any such authorization. Deadline has reached out to a show spokesperson for comment.
In an exclusive statement to The Messenger, McCain said, “My family has not authorized it nor was aware of it. I was as surprised as everyone else to see the announcement.”
This morning, producers Quixote Productions and Max Fose announced an invitation-only industry reading later this week in New York of what they call a “provocative and zeitgeisty” new musical titled The Ghost of John McCain. The musical features a book by Scott Elmegreen and score by Drew Fornarola.

Those who play the popular game Lucky Lady’s Charm are no strangers to lucky symbols such as timeless rabbit’s foot, classic horseshoe and elusive four-leaf clover. These iconic charms have long been associated with good fortune and positive energy.
It is not surprising to discover that famous people, too, have the lucky charms they hold dear. Beyond mere superstition, these objects hold sentimental value and unique stories that offer a glimpse into the lives of those who carry them.
Hemingway’s pocket of luck
Ernest Hemingway, affectionately known as “Papa,” sincerely believed in luck and carried several good luck charms throughout his life. While living in Paris as a journalist and budding novelist, he believed in bringing a horse chestnut and a rabbit’s foot in his right pocket for luck.

Filmmakers loves an underdog and movies have a long tradition of supporting the rights of workers, dating all the way back to the silent era. Here are some classic movies that celebrate workers’ right to strike for better wages and safer working conditions and the sometimes unlikely allies they find along the way. Many are based on true stories, including John Sayles’ masterful “Matewan,” about a coal miner strike in West Virginia, as well as Barbara Kopple’s Oscar-winning documentary, “Harlan County, USA.”

Back in the early '90s, television audiences were treated to "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" — which have now been retitled "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones." These adventures explored the earliest adventures of everyone's favorite archeologist, long before he chose that as his profession.
The series is split with two actors playing Indy. The youngest, Corey Carrier, gets to examine Indiana Jones in his school days, whisked around the world by his parents with a tutor in tow. Those episodes put him in contact with everyone from Theodore Roosevelt to Pablo Picasso and were nothing short of charming. Sean Patrick Flanery took the role of Indiana Jones during his late teens and early 20s, a sliver of the part that was originated by River Phoenix in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
Originally, each episode was bookended with an intro and outro from a one-eyed, 80-year-old Indiana Jones played by George Hall.

In the era of "everything old is new again" that Hollywood has been going through for some time, why not "Young Guns 3"? That's what Emilio Estevez believes anyhow, as the actor is very much ready to reprise his role as Billy the Kid in a new film in the franchise more than 30 years after the release of "Young Guns 2." What's more, Estevez actually believes there's a lot of gas in the tank for this franchise — four or five movies worth.
Estevez recently spoke with Uproxx about the prospect of "Young Guns 3," which first surfaced as a real possibility a couple of years back. Not only did Estevez say he's "ready to go" but he said, seemingly in earnest, "I think, not only just one more film in the franchise, but I think you could do three, four, and five." What's holding these grand plans up? Legal red tape.

Young Guns II made the west wilder, but Emilio Estevez is ready to get even wilder and wilder and wilder, saying he envisions the future of Young Guns possibly expanding into three more movies–once disputes over the rights and intellectual property are cleared.
Speaking with Uproxx, Emilio Estevez said his spurs are all shined up should everything align. “It all comes down to the legal minds that work out IP. Listen, I’m ready to go. We have a terrific draft and if we can figure out the copyrights on all of this, and if Morgan Creek can sort of untangle from some of the issues that they’ve got in terms of continuing the franchise, we’re ready to go. In the latest episode of "The Mandalorian," Chapter 21 - "The Pirate," a choice is brought before the Mandalorians hiding in their secret covert. Nobody in "Succession" is a hero, but villains come in many forms. The family of right-wing media titans at the center of the hit HBO series, the Roys, wield their wealth like they are carelessly brandishing a weapon. Their left-leaning rivals, the Pierces, prefer concealed carry. They mask their greed with a paper-thin veil of morality, grimacing at their flashy counterparts for being grossly money-hungry while dining on hundred-dollar bills.
"Succession" raises an interesting question about the American elite on either side of the aisle: is it better to feign working class consciousness from a multi-million dollar mansion, or does being upfront about decidedly capitalist interests make them any less despicable?
Logan Roy, played by the Emmy Award-winning Brian Cox, has never shied away from admitting his interests are purely economic. "What are people?" Logan asks in the season 4 premiere. "They're economic units. I'm 100 feet tall.

This post contains spoilers for the season 4 premiere of "Succession."
Four seasons into its fantastic HBO run, it can be easy to forget that Jesse Armstrong's "Succession" is satire. It makes fun of the wealthy sad boy sons and cruel corporate titans at its center, sure, but the drama also has a strong emotional core that keeps viewers attached to even its most horrifying characters. By this point, watercooler discussions about who your favorite Roy sibling is include an unspoken acknowledgement that each of these people is surely responsible for human rights violations in one way or another — not to mention the manslaughter, cover-ups, witness intimidation, and harassment that we've see on screen.
"Succession" manages to reel us into the world of the rich and horrible by creating a moral baseline for its characters that's lower than low, all while weaving a tangled psychological web that makes them intermittently sympathetic regardless.

History of the World, Part II began with a call from Mel Brooks to Nick Kroll.
“It’s the craziest thing in my life,” Kroll recalls, adding, “Mel Brooks is more important to me than anybody, so to get that call was like an out-of-body experience.” From there, Kroll reached out to Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz and his writing partner David Stassen. Now, 42 years later, Part II will make its debut on Hulu as a four-night, eight episode event beginning March 6.

After escaping from the Camerons and losing Denmark Tanny’s golden cross, the Pogues, including newcomer Cleo, wind up stranded on a deserted island they lovingly dubbed Poguelandia. When they’re rescued weeks later, they find themselves in the crosshairs of yet another rich man on the hunt for somebody else’s loot. Carlos Singh (Andy McQueen) is looking for the legendary city of gold, El Dorado, and he thinks the Pogues can lead him to it with Tanny’s diary.
Big John is reunited with John B in Barbados, and Singh is on their trail. They return with the Pogues to the Obx,...

Several characters die in Outer Banks Season 3. Find out who doesn’t make it out alive in new episodes of the Netflix series.
[Spoiler Alert: Spoilers ahead regarding who dies in season 3 of Outer Banks.]
Charles Esten as Ward Cameron, Drew Starkey as Rafe | Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix Ward Cameron sacrifices himself to save Sarah in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 3
In the first season of Outer Banks, we learn Sarah’s (Madelyn Cline) father, Ward (Charles Esten), worked closely with John B.’s (Chase Stokes) father, Big John (Charles Halford). They were hunting for the Royal Merchant ship and the $400 million in gold together, which resulted in Ward accidentally killing Big John — or so we thought.
In season 2 of the Netflix series, Ward’s death streak continued. He killed his pilot, Gavin (Adam Vernier), fearing Gavin would tell the police the truth about Sherriff Peterkin’s (Adina Porter) death and expose Rafe (Drew Starkey). When he felt like he no longer had control,...

Genericization is what happens when a trademarked brand name becomes so ubiquitous that folks start using the name as an umbrella term for all similar products within its niche. From “Aspirin” to “Ziploc” bags, this process is usually only achieved once a company has completely cornered a market, with some brand names often outlasting the companies that created them.
In the world of videogames, we see this a lot in terms of defining new genres. While the industry tends to eventually settle on a brand-neutral standard, many critics initially resort to comparing games to the most popular example of their genre, coining terms like “Souls-like” and “Doom-clone” to describe gameplay. And long before “Survival Horror” had been popularized as a genre descriptor, most gamers referred to resource-management-oriented horror titles as “Resident Evil Clones.”

Photo: ‘Night at the Museum: Kamunrah Rises Again’ ‘Night at the Museum’ has been a beloved comedy for children. In 2006, 20th Century Fox released the first entry to the series which focused on a night guard named Larry Daley who secures a job watching over the American Museum of Natural History since he was desperate to find a job. However, he discovers that the manikins and other objects that symbolize historical figures have come to life every night. The movie was praised for its astonishing special effects, which have made the film a lot more creative in having its children viewers enjoy learning about the fictionalized versions of historical individuals and their humorous and wacky interactions with the guard. The film did an excellent job of having parents entertained with Ben Stiller’s comedic performance as well as casting Robin Williams as Theodore Roosevelt. Members of Congress on the Jan. 6 committee are preparing their final report and considering whether to issue a criminal referral against Donald Trump for being “at the center of” a conspiracy to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 win. Appearing on Sunday news shows, Reps. Adam Schiff and Zoe Lofgren said the panel is considering their final moves before Republicans take control of the House and bring the committee to an end as they have threatened. And, according to Schiff, the “evidence is there” for a referral against Trump.

It's a rapidly changing world, and everyone's feeling the pressure.
Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 1 gave us the cops' perspective on the modern world's increased cynicism and high crime rates. This is nothing new for this series, but this time was different.
Frank took his friend, the Archbishop, on a walking tour of the city to get a civilian's perspective, but he mainly learned that everyone- himself included- had little faith in human beings to do the right thing.
It's hard to say where Frank goes from here. His walking tour was a nice homage to Teddy Roosevelt, but how can he improve things for his cops and the citizens they protect now that he's realized that the world is scarier and more cynical than ever before?
The sergeant at the precinct, ignoring the biker gangs, summed things up succinctly when he explained that the cops don't want to shoot civilians or be shot at themselves.

Robert Brown, who starred alongside David Soul and Bobby Sherman by portraying the oldest of the three logging Bolt brothers on the 1968-70 ABC series Here Come the Brides, has died. He was 95.
Brown died Sept. 19 at his home in Ojai, his friend Kiki Bremont told The Hollywood Reporter.
Brown appeared twice on Broadway and guest-starred as alternating versions of a dilithium-lusting character named Lazarus on the 1967 Star Trek episode “The Alternative Factor.” He got that gig when John Drew Barrymore failed to show up on the morning of the shoot.
In 1968, Brown was on the other end of a last-minute replacement situation. All set to star as Det. Steve McGarrett on the original Hawaii Five-0, he was replaced by Jack Lord five days before filming on the pilot began after producer Leonard Freeman had a change of heart about his leading man.

No sitcom is complete without an occasional guest star popping in to shake things up. When it comes to "The Simpsons," they've booked almost everyone in Hollywood at some point, whether it be Meryl Streep, Phil Hartman, Johnny Cash, Neil Gaiman, Billie Eilish, or Tom Hiddleston. Throw a rock in Los Angeles and you'll likely hit someone who has done a guest spot on the animated sitcom.
These spots usually fluctuate between a celebrity playing a character that impacts the family in some way, such as Dustin Hoffman's Mr. Bergstrom, or an uninspired one-and-done playing themselves like Elon Musk. This does not, nor will it ever, apply to Mark Hamill.
When asked by IGN if the show had any guest stars they had been pulling for, executive producer Al Jean revealed that they had tried to arrange a U.S. President to no avail:

Leonardo DiCaprio’s eternal youth and boyish looks may have helped his timeless stardom in Hollywood, but it only hurt his chances of starring in a James Dean biopic.
Director Michael Mann revealed he scrapped a “brilliant screenplay” about late “Rebel Without a Cause” actor Dean due to his dream lead, DiCaprio, looking too young for the part.
“That was so weird about James Dean,” Mann told Deadline. “It’s, ‘Who the hell could play James Dean?’ And I found a chap who could play James Dean, but he was too young. It was Leo. We did a screen test that’s quite amazing. I think he must’ve been 19 at the time.”
Screen legend Dean died at age 24 after a car accident in 1955 after starring in three major films.

David McCullough, an award-winning author, narrator, historian and television host, died on Sunday at his Hingham, Mass. home. He was 89.
His daughter, Dorie Lawson, confirmed the news to the New York Times.
McCullough was best known for “Truman” and “John Adams,” two presidential biographies that notched him two Pulitzer Prizes in a 10-year span. He also won the National Book Award twice for “The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal” in 1977 and “Mornings on Horseback” in 1981, the latter which centered on a young Theodore Roosevelt and his family. In late 2006, he was awarded with the highest civilian award in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his literary works in chronicling the histories of some of the nation’s most prominent political figures.

David McCullough, the two-time Pulitzer Prize winning historian whose biographies gave character and compelling narratives to figures and moments that make up the fabric of the American experience, has died. He was 89.

Two of McCullough’s most famous works, presidential biographies of Harry Truman in 1992 and John Adams in 2001, not only won Pulitzer Prizes but were turned into TV miniseries. His gift for storytelling translated into that of a narrator of documentaries like Ken Burns’ Civil War.
McCullough received the National Book Award for The Path Between the Seas, about the building of the Panama Canal, and Mornings on Horseback, a biography of Theodore Roosevelt. Acclaimed presidential biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin, who has also exec-produced series on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, is often asked which of those men she wishes could be here today. “In some ways, I think Teddy would be the best,” she says of the 26th president (1901–09). “You need somebody fiery who is fighting for fairness, who could be entertaining. And he had all those clever statements that would be perfect on Twitter.” The two-part special Theodore Roosevelt does justice to the man who gave the White House its name. His journey from sickly, home-schooled son of a beloved New York City philanthropist to relentless leader who once delivered an 84-minute address while bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest is made vivid. It’s 2005, and as a middle schooler, there are few places to feel seen the way you want to be: an attractive young adult, with agency, value, and 40 to spend on a T-shirt.
Enter a more affordable Ralph Lauren meets less Nsfw sexy Calvin Klein mash-up Abercrombie & Fitch, the rebranding of a safari-wearing, gun-slinging empire where Theodore Roosevelt and Ernest Hemingway once shopped. Retrofit the brand for 1990s mall culture, and it’s as though America itself is reborn, warts and all.
Selling an aspirational lifestyle for A&f was an understatement — the pulsing club music, dark shuttered windows, shirtless jean-clad male models, and a strong signature cologne packaged the promise of meeting an attainable celebrity crush and walking away with their scent lingering on your skin. Buying something was akin to buying into a new you, but as it turns out, only certain customers were deemed worthy of the brand’s “all-American” message.

Adlon heavily based the series on her own experiences as an actor raising three daughters.
The trailer for the new season sees Sam working on a new movie, giving a presentation to an elementary school class and arguing with her daughters. The new season will feature Danny Trejo, Lena Waithe, Ron Cephas Jones, Casey Wilson, Angela Kinsey and Lennon Parham as guest stars.

Linda Yvette Chávez, co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of Gentefied, shared a personal essay Friday following Netflix’s decision to cancel the Latinx dramedy series after two seasons.
In the emotional letter to fans posted on Instagram next to a quote by Theodore Roosevelt, Chávez, who co-created, exec produced and co-ran the series with Marvin Lemus, spoke of the “small acts of revolutionary love” that helped her embrace her Mexican heritage and fight for representation in front and behind the camera.
Chavez spoke of the millions of people Gentefied has reached around the world, “millions who saw themselves and their families on screen for the first time.”
She took a subtle dig at the proverbial “Netflix algorithms,” a reference to the streamer’s reliance on analyzing viewership and other data vs. cost when making renewal decisions.

“To those New Yorkers who have yet to meet me, I say this – you may not know me. But I know you,” the State of New York’s first female governor, Kathy Hochul, said in her debut public address after being officially sworn in early Tuesday.
One of her favorite speeches, by Theodore Roosevelt, she said, refers to “the man in the arena, who is marred by dust and sweat and blood, in stark contrast to the timid souls on the sideline. Today, for the first time in New York history, a woman will enter that arena as governor.”
Hochul made her appearance a few hours after Andrew Cuomo had his special International Emmy rescinded. She ran through priorities from getting kids back to school safely, to tackling the pandemic, racism and opioid addiction, and helping small businesses and struggling cities.

Theodore Roosevelt was what a lot of people would call a very busy individual since from the moment he entered politics he was something of a busy body that almost never slowed down until he had little to no choice or if he was stymied by a political opponent. In the end, the only thing to stop him was a blood clot that did the job that an assassin’s bullet could not years before. Saying that Roosevelt was ‘tough’ is kind of an understatement since this is a man that was shot, called for his would-be assassin to remain unharmed,
