An expanded version of a failed TV pilot, whose first trailer debuted waaay back in 2013, this iteration of The Saint is already on the backfoot before it begins. You have a rejected pilot, “fixed” with reshoots, Twice(!) – which is why Ernie Barbarash is now the credited director and not Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) who is now credited as Executive Producer instead – and featuring not one but Two previous Saints in the cast, Roger Moore and Ian Ogilvy, just to remind you of how good both actors were in the role… Oh, and then there’s memories of the Val Kilmer movie to sour the audiences view...

For the most part, Fox has really been struggling this season. When it comes to new shows, Empire is a hit and Gotham's doing okay but Utopia, Mulaney, Gracepoint, and Red Band Society were dismal failures in the ratings and have already been cancelled. How's Backstrom doing? Will it survive to see a second season?

Imitation is the sincerest form of television, and the biggest hits will be imitated over and over and over again — sometime well after they've gone off the air. "House" was one of the defining hits of the last decade on Fox, and it inspired clones in various traditional TV fields, with lawyers (James Woods in "Shark"), and even other doctors (Stanley Tucci in "3 Lbs") playing the part of the misanthropic, sarcastic rule-breaker who's too good at the job to fire. Fox's "Bones" has never exactly been a "House" clone — Temperance insults people not because she's a jerk, but because (it's implied) she has Asperger's — but it debuted in the wake of "House" and was tagged early on as "House, FBI." Now, though, longtime "Bones" showrunner Hart Hanson has a new series — "Backstrom," which debuts tonight at 9 on Fox — that's impossible to view as anything but "House, P.D.," even though...

Backstrom Review
Fox has a daring bet it’s making on Backstrom, and though we might not like to admit to the pigeonholing it entails, a lot of people are going to have to take Rainn Wilson in exactly the right way for the show to take off. We’ll have to hope it works out, because this is the coolest show in a long time, and Wilson is perfect.
The trick here is that the show may need the help of Rainn Wilson as draw, but that audience also has to be able to distance themselves from Dwight Schrute. Wilson has obviously been around, but to a large percentage of people he is either no one, or Dwight, and you aren’t getting anything like Dwight here.
Backstrom, for the sake of brevity, is a kind of slovenly, “Seinfeld generation” Sherlock Holmes. He’s quick with a quip, and...

Starring Rain Wilson, whom you will undoubtedly recognize from his portrayal of Dwight Schrute in the critically acclaimed The Office and written by the combined forces of Hart Hanson, creator of Fox?s decades-strong crimedy Bones and Leif G. W. Persson (He Who Kills the Dragon), award-winning Swedish novelist, renowned criminologist, and psychological profiler, comes Backstrom, another promising crimedy based upon a central unique character whose exploits have already enjoyed a long history of literary acclaim. Wilson?s Everett Backstrom is an acerbic Portland detective who baffles all who cross his path with his brash manner and detestable comportment as well as his unique brilliance as a crime-solver. Joining the cast of Backstrom are Genevieve Angelson (House of Lies), Dennis Haysbert ( The Unit, 24), Kristoffer Polaha (Life Unexpected), Beatrice Rosen (Cuts), Page Kennedy ( Blue Mountain State, and Thomas Decker (The Secret Circle). If you’ve been missing your weekly fix of Rainn Wilson ever since the conclusion of NBC’s immensely popular The Office last May, Fox has got you covered. The network just picked up thirteen episodes of Backstrom, a one-hour drama from Bones creator Hart Hanson and 20th Century Fox TV, which will star Wilson as the offensive, hot-tempered Det. Everett Backstrom, whose increasingly self-destructive decisions begin to interfere with his career as he leads the Serious Crimes Unit through Portland’s most sensitive cases.
Backstrom may be a drastic departure from the egomaniacal wackiness of Wilson’s Office character Dwight Schrute, but Fox is optimistic that audiences will connect with the character. Kevin Reilly, Fox Chairman of Entertainment, said the following in a statement:
Hart Hanson and Rainn Wilson are the perfect combination of creative vision and on-screen talent to bring this one-of-a-kind character and story like Backstrom to Fox.

The movie will center on the heir to a shipping fortune, played by Kunz, who wakes up to find that reality is dissolving around him with his sister kidnapped, his father unwilling to pay the ransom and Interpol and the Russian mob after him.

A.D. Calvo is the director behind The Haunting of Amelia (aka The Other Side of the Tracks) which stars Brendan Fehr, Chad Lindberg, Tania Raymonde, Beatrice Rosen, Stephnie Weir, Natassia Malthe, Sam Robards and Shirley Knight. What has made this new director stand out in a crowded market is his ability to cohesively blend many genres in his films including elements of horror, fantasy, drama, romance, coming of age, etc. His films don't feel jerky or uneven. The material has a way of lending itself to each of the genres he is incorporating into the material. The Haunting of Amelia showed a director with potential who can handle the pressures of telling a complex story, who could take on multiple duties and who could sensitively handle having name stars in his film. Now that The Haunting of Amelia is hitting DVD and Showtime, hopefully that will open the door for...

As things look on the upswing for him, he starts to become haunted by supernatural forces. Could it have anything to do with this mysterious new woman?
The Haunting of Amelia could be best described as a coming of age romantic drama with elements of the supernatural and otherworldly in place. When The Haunting of Amelia focuses in on blurring the lines of the supernatural, it's suspenseful, eerie and keeps one guessing as to how it is all going to unfold. When it focuses in on the coming of age aspect Brendan Fehr's transformation is credible.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
While the Peacock has struggled in recent years, those were like a cakewalk compared to this past season as the network became a very public punching bag over the debacle of its 10pm Jay Leno show experiment, the Leno/Conan media wars, and ultimately the general failure of its shows which all struggled in the ratings - most visibly its two new medical dramas and the once proud "Heroes".
By the end of the season the only real success stories to talk about were the network's well-regarded but not spectacularly-rated Thursday night comedy block (Community, 30 Rock, Office), and "Chuck" which only just got renewed last season and is proving to be one of the network's...

NBC has picked up still more new shows for the coming season. The four series in the latest round are the comedy "Friends With Benefits" and three dramas: "The Cape," "Outlaw" and "Harry's Law."
The network also made the official announcement about its Season 4 pickup for "Chuck."
If you're keeping score, NBC has now picked up a whopping 11 new scripted series for next season and has renewed "Chuck," "Parenthood," "Law & Order: Svu" and its full Thursday comedy block. It's unlikely all 11 new shows will debut in the fall, but even so, there's going to be a ton of new product on Peacock airwaves come September.
"The addition of these four inventive series to our new scripted lineup demonstrates a wide spectrum of creative stories," NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad says. "We are featuring popular, top-flight stars along with a strong pedigree of successful writer-producers. Likewise, 'Chuck' has proven its enduring...

Chicago – Sean Bean is an actor who naturally exudes menace. His dark squinting eyes always seem to be up to something, and surely assisted him in getting cast as the bad guy in a variety of blockbusters. While American moviegoers know him primarily for roles such as Jack Ryan’s adversary in “Patriot Games,” British audiences view Bean as their equivalent to a heroic Jack Ryan-type everyman, thanks to his portrayal of swashbuckling soldier Richard Sharpe.
Based on Bernard Cornwell’s series of historical fiction novels, the “Sharpe” film saga was originally broadcast in the mid-90s, consisting of no less than fourteen installments. Sharpe starts out as a British sergeant who receives a promotion after saving the life of the future Duke of Wellington. The books, and their subsequent television adaptations, chronicle Sharpe’s adventures in the Napoleonic Wars, climaxing at the Battle of Waterloo. Two more “Sharpe” films were shot a decade later,...

The Big I Am is released on DVD today and as such, it was only proper to write a review on the new British movie which is well worth a watch. The Big I Am stars Steven Berkoff, Vincent Regan, Beatrice Rosen, Mc Harvey, Terry Stone, Michael Madsen and is directed by Nic Auerbach. It tells the story of a jack-the-lad type character who is always on the wrong side of the law. Through a host of circumstances, he ends up stealing a car which has a gang boss inside. The Big I Am has a great storyline which deals with issues of sex trafficking, to domestic violence and gun crime. It’s a hard hitting movie which features sex, violence and the frequent...

If you don’t know about 2012 by now, then you either don’t own a television, live somewhere where billboards are banned, have no Internet access or haven’t been keeping track of Starlog’s coverage of the blockbuster Sf-action film that premiered Friday to record box office. And if you don’t know about 2012 director Roland Emmerich by now, then you must not be a fan of disaster flicks, because the 21st Century’s “Master of Disaster” is also the man behind Independence Day, Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow.
The end of the Mayan calendar is the source of the seismic and end-of-the-world events that are central to 2012’s storyline. “I was working on a project about Gonzalo Guerrero, who was the first of a small group of Spaniards who stepped foot on the Yucatan and encountered the Mayans,” Emmerich explains. “So because of that, I had studied the Mayan culture.

Global warning.
A scene from "2012"

Even if most of the Earth were to be destroyed by a natural cataclysm predicted long ago by the ancient Mayans (or Hopis, or even the I Ching — take your pick), director Roland Emmerich would surely survive, if only to crawl back and polish off what little was left.
Going in to Emmerich's "2012," I was prepared to set my brain on spin-cycle and just roll with it — who doesn't enjoy a good CGI soak now and then? And there is in fact some snazzy digitalia on display here: a monster tsunami crashing over the Himalayas; a spectacular White House takedown (yet again); and some monster-wave ship-twirling that's truly, uh, titanic. An L.A. freeway buckles and falls, Las Vegas craps out, and the coast of California rears up and slides right into the ocean. All that, plus lots of collapsing high-rise real estate,...

Sony have released three TV spots for upcoming “2012″ disaster movie.
Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. In “2012,” a large group of people must deal with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers. The idea stems from the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012, which could mean the end of the world.
“2012″ is directed and co-written by German filmmaker Roland Emmerich (“Godzilla,” “The Patriot,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” “Stargate,” “Independence Day,” “10,000 B.C.”). Harald Kloser (”The Day After Tomorrow,” “10,000 B.C.” “The Thirteenth Floor,” “Alien vs Predator”) worked with Emmerich on the script.
The film stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Chin Han, Morgan Lily and Beatrice Rosen.
“2012″ opens November 13th, 2009.

Last time I posted a clip from Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster movie, 2012, I received an angry email accusing me of promoting end of the world theories. Now, while I’m quite happy to promote this fictional end of the world movie, I must warn readers of a nervous disposition that this is not some big-screen prophecy, we are not doomed to die in 2012.
Psyche! Of course we are fools! Make the most of life as you know it because come 2012 you are sooooo extinct!
2012 stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Chin Han, Morgan Lily and Beatrice Rosen. The film hits cinemas (literally, like a meteor) on 13th November 2009, check out the new spots below:

You know, there is something … wrong with the way Roland Emmerich seems intent on just obliterating everything in sight in the most beautifully orchestrated way possible. It’s like porn for people who really, really hates humanity. Anyways, here’s another trailer for “2012″. An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors. Starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Liam James, Morgan Lily, Zlatko Buric, Beatrice Rosen, and directed by Roland Emmerich. Watch the planet go Boom November 13, 2009.

This is not to be confused with the post apocalyptic zombedy of the same name, this is a straight horror film which was announced long before. We had posted info that the crew was scouting locations, and now James has given us permission to announce shooting will begin in November. It will be shot on location in France, but will be done in English. It will star Brad Dourif (we all know him), Arly Jover, Beatrice Rosen (The Dark Knight). Music will be done by award winning composer Klaus Schulze, with special FX being done by Christophe Spadaccini (Immortal, Irreversible, Dante 01, Eden Log). And probably the biggest news of all is that the director of photgraphy will be Laurent Chalet who lensed March of the Penguins. "The movie's about a retired funeral director who turns his vast funeral home into a museum of death where you get to stroll...
