The May 17 release of the 2024 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue celebrates the swimsuit franchise’s 60th anniversary. A new documentary highlights the woman who founded the issue in 1964 – Jule Campbell.
Directed by Campbell’s daughter-in-law Jill Campbell, “Beyond the Gaze: Jule Campbell’s Swimsuit Issue” explores how the editor, who died in 2022, broke glass ceilings, navigated a sexist workplace and battled accusations of objectification, all while launching the careers of mogul models including Kathy Ireland, Christie Brinkley and Tyra Banks.
The 107 minute film, produced by Eue Documentaries and Red Barn Productions, recently wrapped production. The director is currently submitting the doc for consideration at various fall film festivals.
During her 32-year tenure as founding editor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Campbell was charged with the task of creating a yearly swimsuit issue that did not come across as gratuitous. The docu investigates how she managed to control the photographs that...

(Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Fall Guy movie.)
Yes, The Fall Guy is based on a TV series.
If you weren’t aware of that, it’s likely because you’re of a younger generation that wasn’t alive or old enough to remember the series, which hasn’t exactly re-entered the zeitgeist in the four decades since it went off the air. (An unscientific scan of social media shows more than a few folks who had no idea of the original IP.) But for moviegoers of a certain age, there are references to the series that inspire nostalgia.
The show, which aired from 1981-86, starred Lee Majors as a stuntman who moonlighted as a bounty hunter. The movie stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role, who is also a stuntman. While the movie is not an exact copy of the show, there are several ways in which the film...

On the HBO Max limited series “Love & Death,” Candy Montgomery (Elizabeth Olsen) reinvents herself several times, beginning as a churchgoing Texas housewife and ending as a pariah on trial for a brutal axe murder. And her wardrobe is an integral part of her journey, which made working on “Love & Death” both a challenge and a delight for costume designer Audrey Fisher. “It’s always fun for a costume designer to create a character within a character,” she told IndieWire. Fisher designed over a hundred costumes for Candy; here are a handful of examples that track the character’s transformation throughout the show.
“Love & Death” begins in the summer of 1978, when Candy is a well-liked member of her Methodist community. Fisher researched ’70s fashions and scoured magazines like Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping to find looks for Candy, who she felt would be just a little more lively and...

Throughout her career, makeup artist Carleigh Herbert has worked on a large variety of different TV series, including MTV’s “Teen Wolf” and FX’s “American Horror Story” — which has earned her four Emmy nominations to date — but nothing is quite as special as actually being part of one from the get-go. “It’s honestly a dream come true,” she tells Gold Derby in a new webchat about serving as the makeup department head on the first season of HBO Max’s new period comedy series “Minx.” “And [it’s] a period piece — there’s nothing more challenging than that. So, the challenge of it all and then designing [it] from the start has been a really wild, fun experience. It’s like it becomes your baby.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Fear Street Part Two: 1978 is a perfect segue after the carnage that began in Fear Street Part One: 1994.
Kiana Madeira and Benjamin Flores Jr., return as Deena and Josh, who take what they've learned about C. Berman (Gillian Jacobs) and get in contact with her with the hope that they can save Sam (Olivia Scott Welch).

In a sign of what may be seen as an emerging, successful alternative to expensive red carpet charity events, Saturday night’s two-hour Lead With Love: Project Angel Food Emergency Telethon, which aired live on Ktla 5, smashed its fundraising goal. The virtual event exceeded its $500,000 goal by nearly $200,000, totaling more than $700,000 during the all-star event, at very little cost to the Hollywood-based nonprofit Project Angel Food.
A-list names, including Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Jamie Lee Curtis, Matt Bomer and Sharon Stone, contributed brief segments celebrating Project Angel Food’s contributions to Hollywood’s underserved community. Furnish and Curtis both mentioned bringing their families with them to volunteer at the facility, which prepares and delivers tens of thousands of meals each week to people in need.

Stan Dragoti, the ad man-turned-film director who co-created the “I Love New York” campaign and is best known for his comedy films “Love at First Bite” and “Mr. Mom,” died July 13. He was in an assisted living facility and had been experiencing health issues following open heart surgery in 2014, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Born in 1932 in New York to Albanian immigrant parents, Dragoti began his career directing commercials, most prominently for pioneering ad agency Wells Rich Greene beginning in 1966. There, he formed a creative partnership with future ad legend Charlie Moss, leading them to co-write the script for Dragoti’s debut feature film, the revisionist Western “Dirty Little Billy” in 1972.
The pair remained close after Dragoti’s departure from Wells Rich Greene in 1972. Five years later, Moss recruited Dragoti to help create the commercials for the “I Love New York” ad campaign, introduced in 1977.

Syfy have revealed the first wave of cameos and the official movie poster for Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, with Anthony C. Ferrante returning to direct an original screenplay written by Thunder Levin, premiering in the Us on Sunday July 31st.
Sharknado: The 4th Awakens takes place five years after the East Coast was ravaged in last summer’s Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!. Fin (Ziering), his family and the cosmos have been blissfully sharknado-free in the intervening years, but now sharks – and ‘nados! – are being whipped up in places (and ways) least expected. I don’t know why, but for some reason people love these stupid-ass Sharknado movies. There’s a fourth film currently in production, and it has been given groan-worthy Star Wars-inspired title. The film is called Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, and according to TV Line it will premiere on Sunday, July 31sh. I’m sure fans of this franchise will love the title.
The two-hour original movie will pick up five years after last summer’s Oh Hell No! three-quel, with Ian Ziering’s Fin enjoying a sharknado-free existence… until the natural disasters begin cropping up in expected places.
Tara Reid will return to the franchise to reveal the outcome of the #AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign. Sharknado 3 stars David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman will also be back for more action. Some of the new cast members for The 4th Awakens include Gary Busey as April’s dad,...

More airborne sharks are bound for Syfy this summer, after the network confirmed that Sharknado: The 4th Awakens will premiere on the small screen come Sunday, July 31.
Taking place five years after Sharnado 3: Oh Hell No! rained down chaos on America’s East Coast, The 4th Awakens welcomes back series stalwart Tara Reid in the role of April Wexler, with the fourth entry poised to reveal the results of last year’s fan-voted #AprilLives or #AprilDies Twitter campaign in spectacular fashion – regardless of the outcome. David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman, meanwhile, are back as Gil and Claudia Shepard, respectively.
Last year’s Oh Hell No! may have struggled to pull in the same viewing figures as its bat-shit insane predecessors – down to 2.81 million viewers from The Second One‘s 3.87 million – but nevertheless, the cult Sharknado franchise still has enough mileage to spike Syfy’s total viewing figures year in,...

The supermodel was asked Thursday about Cheryl Tiegs' comments (which she later recounted) that Ashley Graham is "unhealthly," and Campbell immediately disagreed. "How does [Tiegs] know that? "I don't know what Ashley eats, and it doesn't necessarily mean that because you're bigger you're eating tons of food," Campbell says. "I've got tons of friends who are bigger - it could be a hormone problem. But I don't think Ashley's big,...
