The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering The Fear was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Not every horror movie needs a recognizable slasher villain like Jason or Freddy to be an enjoyable watch. Sometimes, you just need the right type of oddball ingredients to catch lightning in a bottle and even then, there is no guarantee that your movie ends up in that upper echelon of hidden gem horror. Today’s movie, The Fear from 1995, had such a limited release and was overlooked by so many at the time that there is a good chance it’s the best horror movie you’ve never even heard of! While it’s lacking in a few areas, there are a couple things that make it unique and special enough...

Not long ago, Brad Herman, the right-hand man to hush-hush Hollywood, invited a longtime client, legendary Motown songwriter Eddie Holland, to a private visit with another client, The Supremes’ Cindy Birdsong, who since September 2021 has resided in a Los Angeles-area care facility after two strokes that have left her unable to walk or speak. Herman, who says he’s been granted power of attorney over the singer, had worked with Birdsong’s family members to extricate her from a previous living arrangement.
“Eddie puts his hand behind her head, very delicately, sweetly, saying, ‘Cindy, I’m really happy to see you,’ then he just sat there real close and sang in her ear: ‘Baby Love,’ ‘Love Child,’ ‘Someday We’ll Be Together,’ ” Herman recalls, eyes tearing, rolling up a shirtsleeve to show a forearm prickling in memory: goose bumps. “Everyone who has a public face has drama.

Every horror fan has their favorite type of monster. Some people love shambling zombies, others prefer squid-faced aliens from beyond the stars, and I’m sure there are a few people out there who would swear that The Mangler is the greatest beast to grace the silver screen. But for me, one archetype has always reigned supreme: the scaly fish-man.
I can’t explain why, but ever since I was a kid, sea life has always interested me, so it should come as no surprise that as far as famous monsters go, the Gill-man’s always been my favorite. Unfortunately, being a fan of the Gill-man can lead to some issues. Unlike Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy, the Gill-man was an original creation of Universal, and as such, was not in the public domain. So, while there are many great films bearing those iconic names, the Creature from the Black Lagoon only has three,...

Well, here we are again, back in Corman waters. Why do we keep coming back? What is the pull of a Roger Corman production that calls to us like a syphilitic siren wailing from the rocks, beckoning us home? My guess is quality chafing the walls of quantity. There are a lot of exploitation movies out there, and most were justified their position on the lower rung of a double bill on a Tuesday night at the drive-in. But un film du Corman is different – he’s always had an innate gift for corralling talent on the rise, and kind enough to foster it on the way down. His turn of the decade monster mash Humanoids from the Deep (1980) is a perfect storm of his wondrous cinematic sensibilities.
And of course I mean ‘wondrous’ as it applies to our station, the gloriously trashy and deliciously weird. Humanoids fits neatly into...

Explosions, mutants, aliens... it's all here on the latest episode of Junk Food Dinner.
Up first, we stop a Soviet take over of the United States with the internet's favorite action star Chuck Norris when we take a look at the 1985 Cannon action flick Invasion U.S.A directed by Joseph Zito.
Then, mutated fish monsters emerge from the water to wreak havoc on a sleepy fishing village and mate with bikini clad teens in the Roger Corman produced creature feature Humanoids from the Deep (Aka Monster) from 1980 starring Doug McClure, Ann Turkel and Vic Morrow and directed by Barbara Peeters.
And finally, two Americans must traverse a section of Mexico infested by extra terrestrials in the low-budget road movie Monsters from 2010 written and directed by talented newcomer Gareth Edwards and starring real life love birds Whitney Able and Scott McNairy.
All this plus witty banter between friends, listener feedback,...

Italy’s Dylan Dog is interesting in that it is one of the first foreign comics adapted by Americans for the big screen. With the video release of the little seen feature film coming July 26, we were given to consider the foreign comics we know as readers and may have never seen the film versions. The first adaptation of Dylan Dog was a homegrown effort, 1994’s Dellamorte Dellamore (known in English as Cemetery Man or Of Death and Love) from director Michele Soavi.
Other countries have tried their hand at adapting their homegrown comics as films, with about the same level of fidelity and success as most American attempts. For example, there the dreadful 1966 movie based on Peter O’Donnell’s brilliant Modesty Blaise. Not to be outdone in awfulness, America tried their hand at a prime time series, starring Ann Turkel. The 1982 ABC pilot aired and got some reasonable...

Two From Powell/Pressburger Criterion releases gorgeous new transfers of two of the greatest films to come out of post-war Britain, from that period’s greatest filmmaking team: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Black Narcissus was originally released in 1947 and caused a sensation with its explosive story about a nun (Deborah Kerr), cloistered in a remote convent in the Himalayas, who must battle elements both external (the punishing weather) and internal (temptations of the flesh over duty to the spirit). Also features stellar turns by England’s greatest actresses at the time: Flora Robson, Kathleen Byron and a young Jean Simmons. One of the most dazzling films ever made, bolstered by Oscar-winning cinematography from Jack Cardiff. Bonuses: New transfer, supervised by Cardiff, editor Thelma Schoonmaker Powell; Introduction by filmmaker Bernard Tavernier; Commentary by Powell and Martin Scorsese; Featurettes; Documentaries and interviews; Trailer. The Red Shoes,...

The Ravagers is another in a long line of Hollywood backed Pa films from the 70s that, despite sporting some pretty big names, just seems to have disappear off the face of the earth. That's right folks. No DVD. Nadda. There was a VHS copy released in England ages ago but other than that the film has become something of a Pa legend over the years and a real coveted item for collectors.
The quality of the film itself is up there with another of the era, Ultimate Warrior which, like The Ravagers, starred big names like Max Von Sydow and Yul Brenner. A little dated maybe, but still great fun. That film was recently releases on DVD as part of a double feature with Montgomery Tully's Battle Beneath the Earth so I still have hopes that we'll see The Ravagers hit home video one day.

Hollywood badboy Russell Crowe was close to tears at the London funeral of Gladiator co-star and close pal Richard Harris yesterday. The Oscar-winning actor flew 5,000 miles from filming Master And Commander in Rosarito, Mexico to attend the service in St Thomas More Catholic Church in Chelsea, west London and the private cremation in Mortlake, south west London afterwards. Russell told journalists outside the church, "I love him and I miss him." The actors became boozing buddies as they worked on the Roman epic in 2000 when Russell played General Maximus Decimus Meridus opposite Richard's Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Before Richard's death last month the Irish hellraiser tipped the Antipodean star to carry on his badboy behavior. Richard said, "Top bloke, loves his rugby, doesn't give a stuff, brilliant actor, a much loved new friend. He will carry the baton on. He irritates the hell out of the Hollywood bigwigs, but he's much too good for them to ignore." After the service, Russell spoke to the grieving family and kissed Richard's eight- month-old grandson and hugged the actor's son Jared, 37. The Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets star's coffin, draped in an Irish flag was carried out of St Thomas More by six pall bearers, including his sons Jamie, 36 and Damian, 39. Richard's ex-wives Ann Turkel and Elizabeth Rees, who Richard remained friends with until his demise, were also present.

The family of Richard Harris will remember him at a small private funeral in London before scattering his ashes in the Bahamas, where he had a home. Harris, the hell-raising star of This Sporting Life, A Man Called Horse, and two Harry Potter films, died on Friday of Hodgkin's Disease. He was 72. Harris' London-based agent, Sharon Thomas, said no date had been set for the funeral. She added that public memorial services would be held for the Irish-born actor in London and Dublin on dates to be determined. Harris is survived by three sons - Jamie, Jared and Damian - from his first marriage to Elizabeth Rees-Williams. He is also survived by his second wife, Ann Turkel, whom he divorced in 1982.
