Bill Treacher, who played Arthur Fowler on the BBC’s long-running soap, EastEnders, has died. The actor was 92 and passed away on Saturday night after his health had been “declining for some time,” the family said in a statement.
Treacher was an original cast member of EastEnders set in the fictional London borough of Walford. He appeared in the first episode in 1985 and went on to play Fowler until 1996.
The character of Arthur was a family man who was often down on his luck, but had a special penchant for tending his allotment garden. Arthur was ultimately framed for a crime he did not commit and experienced a mental breakdown in prison, later dying of a brain hemorrhage suffered at his beloved allotment a few days after being released in 1996.

Joe Marler is taking part in ITV’s one-off special Queens for the Night.
The programme will see celebrities, including EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson, transform into their own drag characters.
Marley, an international rugby star who has played for England 83 times, will appear as Trixie Turnover on the episode.
Speaking about his decision to sign up, the 32-year-old Harlequins prop told ITV: “I want to try something different, get out of my comfort zone and why not try drag. It’s great fun.”
He continued: “I think there’s lots of different qualities you need to be successful in drag. Strong calves are probably up there, but the main one is the ability to free yourself up, let yourself go and just go with the character as much as you can. You can’t panic too much about what people are going to think.

Did fantasy dramas Chocky, The Box Of Delights and Dramarama leave an impression on you as a kid? Revisit those nightmares here...
Spooky, always magical and occasionally downright scary dramas are the bedrock of kids' television. For me, the pinnacle of this sort of programme was reached in the 1980s. The decade saw a new approach to both traditional and contemporary drama by both UK broadcasters: ITV committed itself to regular seasons of children's plays with Dramarama (1983-89), a kind of youth version of the venerable BBC Play For Today (1970-84), which saw the 1988 television debut of one David Tennant. The BBC, building upon an impressive body of work from the early 70s onwards, produced some of its very best family drama in this era, embracing cutting edge technology to bring treats like The Box Of Delights (1984) and The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe (1988) to the screen.

EastEnders producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has criticised ITV for some of its British Soap Awards coverage on Thursday evening (May 21).
The long-running BBC soap took home the coveted Best Soap prize at this year's ceremony, but Treadwell-Collins was left disappointed by the editing of this week's broadcast.
"Disappointed that our thanks for those behind the scenes was cut from tonight's show," the producer tweeted, before also expressing his disappointment over the broadcaster's scheduling for the night.
"Scheduled against BBC," he added. "Play nicely ITV."
ITV aired an hour-long episode of Emmerdale against EastEnders to lead into its coverage of the two hour event.

Jo Joyner has said she would not appear as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, as she would be "rubbish".
The EastEnders actress won't be following in the footsteps of her co-star Jake Wood, who competed in the 2014 series.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other reporters, she said: "No - I'd be rubbish - and clearly live is not my forte! They did ask - they've asked a couple of times and I would love to learn to dance, but… I'm a bit competitive and if I wasn't going to win it, what's the point in doing it?"
The actress recently made a slip-up during the live shows marking EastEnders' 30th anniversary.
During a scene with Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), she referred to the character Ian Beale using the first name of the actor (Adam Woodyatt) who plays him.
The actress spoke out after the mistake, saying she was "upset" she had made it.

Kris Jenner not knowing which way is up, Dermot O'Leary propped on Amanda Holden's knee and the entirety of Danny Dyer's speech - there were definitely a lot of funny and bizarre moments during last night's National Television Awards.
And Digital Spy had front row (well, near enough) seats to both the ceremony and afterparty - so here's 20 things that you wouldn't have seen on TV last night.

EastEnders star Ben Hardy stayed coy at the National Television Awards last night (January 21) when quizzed about reports linking him to the next X-Men film.
Back in November, it was claimed that Hardy is being lined up to play a young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse.
News of Hardy pursuing other roles soon led to EastEnders bosses confirming that he will be bowing out as Walford's Peter Beale at the end of his current contract.
Speaking to reporters including Digital Spy backstage at the NTAs last night, Hardy was asked to confirm whether he will indeed be part of the next X-Men project.
He laughed: "Er, sorry? Oh well, that's the rumour. Nothing guaranteed though."
His on-screen father Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) joked: "If he is, I want tickets for the premiere!"
Hardy arrived on screen on EastEnders as the sixth actor to play Peter in June 2013. Details of how and...

The 23-year-old actor, who plays Peter Beale in the BBC One soap, has confessed he believes he's figured out who's responsible for the murder of his on-screen sister Lucy (Hetti Bywater) earlier this year. Speaking about how he thinks Peter and Lucy's father Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) killed her, he said: ''I know 100% certain that Ian is the murderer. [Executive producer] Dominic Treadwell-Collins has said that the killer won't necessarily be caught and go to jail. ''So we're all constantly talking about it at work and coming up with new theories.

A staggering 1.6 million people have applied for tickets to see Strictly Come Dancing live at Elstree Studios this year - which means that Digital Spy was ridiculously excited to be asked along to watch Movie Week unfold right before our eyes on Saturday (October 11).
And while we all saw Frankie Bridge's incredible paso, Donny Osmond's phobia of scores under 5 and Jennifer Gibney hanging up her dancing shoes, here's some things you didn't see on BBC One...
1. Wardrobe issues
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman looked absolutely spiffing in their garb on both shows. However, comfortable they were not. Before Strictly went live on Saturday, they both walked out to say hello and wish everyone luck. Well, we say walked. Clauds hobbled erratically all over the dancefloor, tugging at her behind at least 10 times and declaring to the whole of the studio that her (several pairs of) Spanx were chaffing up a storm.
