First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. On a cold December afternoon, ten women arrive at a mansion on Spektor Island, famed for years of reported hauntings and strange activities. Will they live through the night?
The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...

Move over Ken, Barbie: Rapist, Hitler are dolls too

Until last week, ABC's online store was selling a "Todd Manning" doll, based on a One Life To Live character, for $19.95. "Todd is an all-cloth doll with brown felt hair and blue eyes," read the online copy. "He is 20 inches standing. He wears a blue shirt and black pants."
The doll also had a nasty scar on its right cheek--just like the "real" Todd Manning on the soap opera. Though the Manning character is now a family man with a wife and child, he has a dark past. He was accused of raping a coed at a fraternity party, and he once tried to murder a man who had slept with his wife.
As for the scar, Manning sustained an injury to his face while trying to rape a woman for a second time.

You usually have to take ad spending predictions with a grain of salt. This one might require an entire field.
According to a new white paper published by something called the Winterberry Group, online display advertising is “poised to see growth of more than 10 percent per year (on a compound basis) through 2013.”
The forecast seems to contradict other estimates, which have display ads flat or dropping. According to Jack Myers’ Media Business Report forecast, released in May, display advertising spending is expected to drop in 2009 and 2010 – from $11....

The advertising business in the U.S., for the first time ever, will fall for three years straight, if a forecast released Monday is correct.
According to the Jack Myers Media Business Report, media revenue generated through advertising declined 4.2% last year and will decline another 12% this year, then as much as 7% in 2010.
The figures are based on an overview of industry analysis, the latest data on fourth-quarter and first-quarter spending, Gdp figures and a study of the top 100 advertisers conducted by Goldman Sachs.
Media company advertising domestically peaked at $234.7 billion in 2007, growing 3.6% over the year before. In 2010, it is projected to decline to $187.7 billion.
Leading categories on the downside are newspapers, local and regional spot cable TV and terrestrial radio.
Advertising categories that are still showing growth include video games, cinemas, satellite radio and most sectors of online ads, in particular video and social networks.

NBC unveiled a flurry of midseason promos during its presentation of Sunday's mega-rated Super Bowl Xliii, a mix of ads that tried to get noticed amid the most lavish marketing efforts Madison Avenue had to offer.
The network launched the first commercial for its new Amy Poehler comedy (also revealing the show's title, "Parks and Recreation"), a teaser for Jay Leno moving to 10 p.m. and a special effects-filled ad that combined "Heroes" and football.
"I thought they did an excellent job of promoting 'Chuck' and 'Heroes,' " media analyst Jack Myers said. "The ads driving immediate tune-in worked; the ads driving overall brand awareness, while well-produced and interesting and attractive, I don't think will change anything."
Adam Stotsky, NBC's president of entertainment marketing, said the network's strategy was to embrace high-concept ideas that could compete visually with regular ads.
"The mission was: How do we make our promos Super Bowl-worthy?...

NEW YORK -- Last week's massive power outage in the Northeast and parts of the Midwest cost New York City stations roughly $5 million in revenue, according to data compiled from stations and other sources. All told, local stations, including those in Cleveland and Detroit, lost $8 million-$12 million, according to one estimate from Jack Myers, publisher of the Myers Report daily advertising newsletter. It was possible that some of those monies could be recovered if stations are able to provide make-goods to advertisers in time slots that were not sold out, Myers said. At WNBC-TV in New York, the blackout cost the station about $1 million in revenue after it went into a commercial-free format shortly after the power went out at 4:10 p.m. EDT on Thursday, said Mark Lund, the station's vp sales.
