With a tentative Directors Guild of America deal in hand and the Writers Guild of America on strike, SAG-AFTRA has been thrust into a bigger role than the performer’s union has played in years in the industry’s triennial labor contract negotiations.
SAG-AFTRA gets its turn at the bargaining table this week, with an agenda that seeks to address the many ways that technology is changing the profession of acting.
Two of the union’s top concerns — streaming residuals and artificial intelligence — are also key issues for the WGA and DGA. The performers’ guild is also uniquely focused on putting limits on “self-taped” auditions, which have become ubiquitous since the beginning of the pandemic.
To maximize its leverage, SAG-AFTRA has already called for a strike authorization vote. With ballots due at 5 p.m. on Monday, the union will have the authorization in hand when it begins talks with the...

The Walking Dead World Beyond: Natalie Gold and Joe Holt Explain Explosive Twist, Tease What's Ahead
The Walking Dead: World Beyond has truly come into its own in its final season.
As the show delves deeper into the Crm and their machinations, viewers are being treated to a lot of progression for the characters.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 Episode 7 changed the entire series when Lyla (Natalie Gold) revealed classified information to save Leo (Joe Holt) and his daughters.
In a twist of fate, Lyla told Jadis she had made a breakthrough with a dead body not reanimating, seemingly progressing the Crm's goal.
However, the body had reanimated by the time Lyla tried to show Jadis her findings, and Jadis forced Huck to set the zombie free to kill Lyla.
It was one of the most memorable deaths. The test subject ultimately killed Lyla. Natalie was very excited about seeing this play out because she knew Lyla's arc was building towards an untimely demise.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 7, “Blood and Lies.”] Dr. Belshaw (Natalie Gold), we hardly knew ye. “Blood and Lies” delivers both of those things, as Dr. Belshaw’s continued scheming and mad science-ing push her toward her doom; meanwhile, the main characters make a horrifying discovery about the Civic Republic Military’s plans for Dr. Belshaw’s work. Here’s how it happens. The writing’s on the wall for Dr. Belshaw from the opening of the episode. We see her conducting experiments on an innocent man (we later find out she was gassing him with highly toxic mustard gas), and then she was being questioned by soldiers, and then she ran to Leo’s (Joe Holt) place and begged him to give her back the vial of serum, which, eventually and separately, Hope agrees to do… after Dr. Belshaw takes them to her lab and...

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 will feature the return of a long-gone character from The Walking Dead.

Then again, the franchise might want to save those reveals for, you know, the trilogy of movies announced.
On a side note: Does anyone else feel like these movies are no longer happening?

Just like 2020, there’s going to be a lot of the zombie apocalypse on the small screen this fall.
In a move reminiscent of last year’s Comic-Con@Home, The Walking Dead: World Beyond on Saturday unveiled the premiere date for its second and seemingly final season. The limited-series spinoff that follows the first generation raised in the post-apocalyptic world will return to AMC on October 3.
Along with that debut date, World Beyond during its virtual panel today rolled out a clip from the 10-episode second season of the Scott M. Gimple- and Matt Negrete-created show — and things have gotten bloody, to say the least:
EPs Gimple and Negrete were both on the pre-recorded World Beyond panel this afternoon, joined by cast members Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, Annet Mahendru, Julia Ormond, Jelani Alladin and Joe Holt.

This The Walking Dead: World Beyond review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Episode 4
A lot of people are critical of The Walking Dead: World Beyond for what the show is. It’s a teen-centric supernatural drama set in a zombie universe, like MTV’s Teen Wolf but not sexy due to the unspoken body odor surrounding every character. That’s not to everyone’s taste, which is understandable. The Walking Dead isn’t to everyone’s tastes, either.
As such, a Walking Dead fan’s tolerance or interest in World Beyond is based heavily on just how much they enjoy watching melodramas meant for teenagers. Empties, adult characters, political intrigue… all of it takes a back-seat to the main thrust of the story, which is the teenage coming-of-age thing that can be divisive and limits the ceiling of World Beyond significantly. If this show were on the CW or Freeform,...

After its premiere was delayed by several months due to Covid-19, the two-season The Walking Dead spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond finally makes its debut this week. The story expands the Twd universe in a unique way, taking place 10 years after the zombie outbreak and focusing on a predominantly teenage cast of characters. Unlike the battered groups of survivors from The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, these teens have been sheltered from walkers within the walls of a university in Omaha, Nebraska, a thriving colony that has afforded them a relatively normal, safe life post-outbreak.
But, as fans will learn from the very first episode, the Campus Colony (as it’s referred to) does have a seemingly precarious arrangement with the Civic Republic Military (Crm), whose ominous helicopters act as a narrative thread that ties the three shows together. It’s safe to say you’ll...

“The Walking Dead” is edging up, this October, to its 10th anniversary on the air. That decade of ratings dominance has seen our own world grow nihilistic enough to make the series feel more tonally appropriate to the mood of the moment. It has also seen AMC, which when “The Walking Dead” premiered was in the middle of the runs of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad,” come to be increasingly defined by “The Walking Dead.” The show’s second spinoff attempts to prove just how malleable the “Dead” universe really is by moving its action into the future; on its own limited terms, it’s a success, though viewers might be forgiven for wondering just how much gas is left in the tank.

The news follows AMC having to postponed the series’ original April 12 premiere date back in March because of the then-growing coronavirus threat that upended most of the entertainment business. World Beyond had wrapped filming, but post-production on the final few episode was impacted by the industry shutdown.

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Friday, July 24. The highlights are below.
The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.
In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.
Friday’s events include panels for all three of AMC’s “Walking Dead” series, Hulu’s new Marvel series “Helstrom,” and creatives like Charlize Theron, Joss Whedon, and Robert Kirkman.
The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 — is being announced daily through Sunday.
All times are Pacific Daylight.

With the Covid-19 outbreak preventing major gatherings from going ahead, the yearly geek mecca that is San Diego Comic-Con has had to be cancelled this year. However, Sdcc will still happen in some form, thanks to the Comic-Con@Home virtual version of the event. Several major studios are planning their own alternate virtual cons – such as DC’s FanDome – but AMC has just announced the three Walking Dead panels they’re hosting for Cc@H.
The three, as you can probably work out, are for all three Twd TV series – the parent show, Fear the Walking Dead and incoming second spinoff Walking Dead: World Beyond. As they would at the real event, the main casts of all three series will be taking part in a virtual Q&a which will be able to be streamed by fans from the safety of their own homes.
