"I can feel you flowing through!!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a new comedy series titled God's Favorite Idiot, the latest creation from the husband-wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. Usually Falcone directs McCarthy in Hollywood comedies but this time he stars as the main character in this workplace comedy about what would happen if he suddenly started glowing after being struck by lightning. In God's Favorite Idiot, Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson finds love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. There's also roller skating, a lake of fire and an apocalypse, too. This looks like they went all out with the religious imagery. Falcone stars with McCarthy, and an ensemble cast including Leslie Bibb as Satan, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. This seems extra quirky...

Heaven, hell, and office romances: real-life couple and comedy duo Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone lead Netflix comedy “God’s Favorite Idiot,” premiering on the streamer June 15.
McCarthy and Falcone co-founded On the Day Productions, and have written and produced films like “Tammy,” “The Boss” and “Life of the Party” together with Falcone directing. Now, the creative partners lead “God’s Favorite Idiot,” which is part “Bruce Almighty” and part workplace comedy.
Falcone stars as unassuming tech support employee Clark Thompson who pines after his co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy). After being struck by lightning, Clark begins to glow — and not just because his crush is reciprocated. Turns out, Clark is now anointed, and must battle Satan (Leslie Bibb) with the help of Amily.
The eight-episode series also stars Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. “God’s Favorite Idiot” is Oscar nominee McCarthy’s follow-up TV role...

A higher power is calling upon Ben Falcone to do some good in God’s Favorite Idiot, the latest comedy from the actor-creator and Melissa McCarthy that drops June 15 on Netflix. The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for the series (see above).
Here’s the logline for the comedy: “Clark Thompson (Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.

Ben Falcone is the Chosen One. On Friday, Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming comedy series “God’s Favorite Idiot,” in which Falcone stars alongside his wife Melissa McCarthy.
The series follows Falcone’s Clark Thompson, a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him.
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Clark is struck by lightning — and Amily witnesses it. The next day, she races to work to tell their co-workers what happened.
“I saw something crazy last night, and I do want to just be completely open and honest,” she says. “Yes, I did cocaine twice last week, but I did zero cocaine preceding the event I’m about to describe.

To celebrate the release of Superintelligence, the new comedy coming to cinemas later this month, we sat down with its cast and director to find out if AI is soon to take over the world and be voiced by James Corden.
Written by Steve Mallory and directed by Falcone – who also co-stars – Superintelligence stars McCarthy as Carol Peters, a former executive in the corporate world who has her life turned upside down when a super-intelligent AI – first of its kind – picks her to help it learn about humanity and the world, whilst potentially plotting to take it over, voiced by James Corden.
In our chat, the trio talk to us about their dreams and fears of what AI can do for humanity, finding the humour in the apocalyptic and what they would do if such a thing presented them with such an opportunity.

More than two years after filming wrapped, “Superintelligence,” the latest joint effort of Melissa McCarthy and her director husband Ben Falcone, has finally popped up on a streaming platform — specifically, HBO Max — which arguably is the natural habitat for a lightweight, undemandingly engaging comedy that can be enjoyed either entirely in one sitting, or sporadically in bite-sized chunks. The screenplay by Steve Mallory, another frequent McCarthy collaborator, is a sometimes clever, sometimes contrived mix of romantic comedy and sci-fi elements, with a premise that suggests an updated remake of some innocuous ’70s-era Walt Disney comedy starring Dean Jones or Kurt Russell. But some of the funny business is very funny indeed, and the movie overall is more enjoyable than not. Which, again, makes it perfect for streaming.
McCarthy plays Carol Peters, a sweet-natured but self-deprecating Seattle resident who walked away from her high-paying gig as a Yahoo exec to do...

In “Superintelligence,” an average human being must convince a sentient AI program not to wipe out humanity. Lucky for all of us, the film “Superintelligence” is not entered as evidence that our continued existence is justified.
It’s probably the most technically accomplished of the four theatrical features (to date) that Ben Falcone has directed with his wife Melissa McCarthy in the starring role, but this partnership continues to be an imbalanced one, at least in terms of results. Their collaborations constitute both her least-interesting movies as an actress and the entirety of his career as a filmmaker.
As collaborators and co-stars, they can be hilarious together — in performance; once he steps to the other side of the camera, however, the magic they create as a team seems to dissipate. Neither of them gets much assistance from the screenplay by Steve Mallory (“The Boss”), which hinges the fate of mankind...

Okay, that’s it, no more movies about lonely white people getting unsolicited life advice from sentient apps on their phones. “Her” was cute and all, but the combined torpor of last year’s “Jexi” and Melissa McCarthy’s equally grim new “Superintelligence” is enough to retcon Spike Jonze’s bittersweet cyber-romance into the Manhattan Project of Hollywood’s worst new sub-genre.
In hindsight, of course, it’s all too easy to see how Jonze became death, the destroyer of worlds: The high-concept premise of his 2013 film, so delicate that it might shatter in someone else’s hands, doubles as low-hanging fruit for hacky comedies about regular people being terrorized by the technology that we’ve created for our convenience. A screenwriter pitches something like, “Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Siri wanted to mess with you?” A studio executive hears, “We only have to pay top dollar to one of our leads.

HBO Max has released the first trailer for “Superintelligence,” a new comedy about the surveillance state starring Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale. “Superintelligence” is McCarthy’s fourth collaboration with her husband Ben Falcone, who directed McCarthy in “Tammy” (2014), “The Boss” (2016), and “Life of the Party” (2018), all of which the couple co-wrote together. “Superintelligence” is written by Steve Mallory, who was the third credited writer on “The Boss.”

Melissa McCarthy's next comedy, Superintelligence, will see her battle AI exclusively on HBO Max next year.

The wacky premise also comes loaded with a star-studded supporting cast that includes Bobby Cannavale (The Irishman), Brian Tyree Henry, Jean Smart (Watchmen), and James Corden. Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Superintelligence’ Bumped From Holiday Theatrical Release to Premiere on HBO Max
The Melissa McCarthy comedy “Superintelligence” has been bumped from its planned holiday theatrical release by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema and will instead premiere on HBO Max in spring 2020, Warner Media announced Thursday.
The film — directed by Ben Falcone and written by Steve Mallory — was originally slated for release on Dec. 20. It’s moving off a busy holiday weekend that also includes “Cats,” “Bombshell” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
“Superintelligence” is a comedy about a woman selected for surveillance so that a new artificial intelligence program can learn. But the program soon has her TV, phone and microwave snarkily talking back to her as it slowly grows in sentience and threatens to take over the world. Forte and Olson will play chronically underemployed couple Jann (Forte) and Cricket Melfi (Olson) who are self-proclaimed home renovation “experts,” more than confident they are television’s next great home design celebrity duo. The series follows the clueless pair as their dreams of basic cable fame and glory are derailed when they get themselves kidnapped by members of a drug cartel and are forced to renovate their sprawling homes.
“Flipped” was created and written by Steve Mallory and Damon Jones. Both serve as executive producers on the project alongside Ryan Case, Joe Farrell and Jim Ziegler. Ryan Case will direct with Steve Burgess on board as a co-ep...

Even before he sets foot on the court in an NBA game this season, LeBron James has had quite a year. Continuing a steady stream of film and TV projects through his SpringHill Entertainment and longtime manager Maverick Carter, the basketball megastar has amassed an impressive list of development partnerships across the media landscape.
On the TV side alone, James has struck series deals with every broadcast network, many prestige cable outlets, and a streaming service to boot. Aside from the biggest title on his film docket, the long-awaited “Space Jam 2,” James has lent his stamp to a number of features that exist outside the basketball world.
And these aren’t solely ideas for the future, working their way toward a possible pickup. Since last fall, he’s helped produce all of the following films and programs:

LeBron James joins the Lakers, moves to Los Angeles, and now he's already meeting for big movie roles. According to Variety, he's in talks to star in an untitled comedy for Paramount Players. The script for the film is being written by Steve Mallory (The Boss).
James will also be a producer on the movie and if he ends up officially joining the project it would be his second big-screen role. He previously played himself in the Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck.
There's no word on what the story for the film would entail, but let's talk about what this move into the movie business could mean for James. Wouldn't it be funny if after signing a four-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers, that he got so distracted by Hollywood and the entertainment industry that he loses focus on the game? Ok, that might not be funny to the fans.
I doubt that will happen,...

James Corden is joining Melissa McCarthy in the New Line sci-fi comedy “Super-Intelligence,” providing the voice of the title character.
McCarthy will play the lead role of Carol Peters, a former corporate executive whose earnest, yet unfulfilled, life is turned upside down when she is selected for observation by the world’s first superintelligence (Corden) — a form of artificial intelligence that may or may not take over the world.
The script was penned by Steve Mallory, whose most recent collaboration with McCarthy and Falcone was the 2016 comedy “The Boss.” Production is set to begin next month and the film will be released on Christmas Day, 2019.
McCarthy most recently starred in another New Line comedy: “Life of the Party,” directed by Falcone.
Unlike his late-night host counterparts, Corden has found time to broaden his brand. Corden has already had two hit films in 2018, starting with Sony’s live-action/animated hybrid “Peter Rabbit.

Chicago – If anything, “The Boss” is a bigger testimony to Melissa McCarthy’s status as a comic superpower than her breakthrough role in “Bridesmaids.” That one had a veritable treasure trove of comedic talent, while McCarthy has considerably less to work with here.
She single handedly drags this movie kicking and screaming into the realms of watchability based on her comic charisma alone.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
McCarthy plays Michelle Darnell, the kind of self made mogul who gives bombastic get rich seminars and sells out the United Center in the process. Apart from one scene involving McCarthy in a dental brace that’s simultaneously interesting and horrifying, the first third of the film is pretty much all setup and a bit of a slog to get through.

'The Boss' movie: Melissa McCarthy funny only with certain directors, the right material. 'The Boss' movie review: Melissa McCarthy founders in husband Ben Falcone's 'limp comedy' At this point no one would dispute that Melissa McCarthy is one of the funniest people on the planet. However, after the limp comedies Tammy and now The Boss, there is something else not in dispute: Melissa McCarthy is funny only with certain filmmakers and with scripts that would work even without the benefit of her gifts. One can imagine Bridesmaids and Spy being perfectly fine comedies had someone been cast other than McCarthy. Add her physicality, ad-lib abilities, and razor-sharp timing and you've got two films that were among the funniest of their respective years (McCarthy even earned a well-deserved Oscar nod for Bridesmaids). The Boss is McCarthy's second film directed by Ben Falcone. The first was Tammy which,...

Ready for another ride on that now revered cinematic stand-by, the “riches-to-rags-to-riches” story? This seems to be more popular now, although the “rags-to-riches” tale of triumph occasionally pops up, as in last December’s inspired by true events crowd-pleaser Joy. And once more, this up and down and up scenario is mined for laughs, just as in the comedy from nearly a year ago, Get Hard. Oh, and what a coincidence, one of the stars of that film, Will Ferrell, is one of the producers of this new film. But neither he or one of the other kings and princes of current movie mirth star. Rather, this is another starring vehicle for the reigning (nearly five years now) queen of cinema comedy, Melissa McCarthy. In between last summer’s smash Spy and next summer’s much talked-about reboot/re-imagining of the Ghostbusters, she has re-teamed with hubby Ben Falcone on...

McCarthy’s disgraced tycoon deals in cheap jokes in a foul-mouthed caper that swats at suburbia, salesmanship and girl-scouting, directed by the star’s husband
The evidence is more than circumstantial: Paul Feig is the Melissa McCarthy-whisperer. Like cooking with rosemary or incorporating tubas into a piece of music, casting the abundantly talented McCarthy in a leading film role takes a very delicate hand. Feig directed her to hilarious effect in Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy and will hopefully do so again later this year in Ghostbusters. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found while the cameras were rolling on The Boss, an unfunny, chaotic mess of ludicrous plotting and tone-deaf set-pieces that’s as bad as her 2013 abomination Identity Thief.
