Fox will keep its Missing Persons Unit on the job for another season.
The network has renewed the drama series Alert: Missing Persons Unit for a third season in 2024-25. The series will remain in production after season two wraps, which will bank episodes leading into next season and potentially serve as a hedge against a possible IATSE strike in the summer.
Alert is one of just two dramas Fox has aired in 2023-24 as the network relied heavily on its unscripted and animated rosters, which weren’t affected by last year’s dual strikes. Fox has yet to make a call on the other drama, The Cleaning Lady.
Alert stars Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez as Philadelphia detectives who head the city’s missing persons unit and work to find missing or abducted people and reunite them with loved ones. Adeola Role, Ryan Broussard and Alisha-Marie Ahamed also star...

The series is a producedural drama set in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit, with each episode featuring a search for a missing person headed by detectives Jason Grant (Scott Caan) and Nikki Batista (Dania Ramirez), a former couple whose marriage ended after the disappearance of their son.
Along with Caan and Ramirez, the cast includes Ryan Broussard as Mike Sherman, Adeola Role as Kemi Adebayo, Petey Gibson as C, Gil Bellows as Hollis Braun and Alisha-Marie Ahamed as Wayne Pascal.

Exclusive: Fox has given a Season 3 pickup to Alert: Missing Persons Unit. The renewal of the procedural drama, starring Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez, has been expected.
To make filming more cost-efficient for series producers Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment, Alert will remain in continuous production, segueing from the abbreviated-by-the-strikes second season to Season 3, whose episode count is still Tbd, I hear. There is an additional benefit to filming Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back — Fox will have fresh episodes of the series in case production is disrupted by an IATSE strike this summer.
There is no word yet on Fox’s other outstanding drama series, The Cleaning Lady. As Deadline has reported, it also is looking good for renewal.

The entertainment industry can be brutal and punishing even during the best of times, let alone amid disruptive WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But it’s even tougher for those with disabilities.
While there have been highly publicized donations to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation from superstars such as Dwayne Johnson, Oprah Winfrey and other A-listers to help their fellow union members through this challenging time, philanthropic organizations such as Inevitable Foundation, launched in 2021, have stepped up while keeping their focus on their mission, helping writers with disabilities.
“The higher up you get up in the industry, the less representation there is offscreen,” says Richie Siegel, the organization’s co-founder and president, noting that America’s largest minority group, the disabled, is the least visible. “We said if you really want to solve this problem, you have to start with the storytellers. You have to start with the writers.”

Hondo is feeling a “lot bit sad.”
Shemar Moore, who has played Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson on S.W.A.T. since 2017, expressed his sorrow and frustration via Instagram late Friday over CBS’s decision to ax the drama after six seasons. He also pointed out that his show’s cancellation would leave network TV without the only African American actor in a leading role, and the only series with a truly diverse cast.
“I got sunglasses on cuz I’m a little bit sad,” Moore said on his Ig. “I’m a lot a bit sad. We got canceled, S.W.A.T., S.W.A.T. got canceled. It makes no sense. Look up the articles, read the articles. We are the best shows on Friday night at 8 for CBS. The last two years we have been killing it, us and the fire show…the fire show [Fire Country] that comes on right after us, and respect to those brothers and sisters.

Spectrum has canceled “LA’s Finest” after two seasons, TheWrap has confirmed. The show’s second season premiered last month.
A spinoff of the “Bad Boys” film series, “L.A.’s Finest” featured Gabrielle Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett from 2003’s “Bad Boys II.” Now an LAPD detective, Syd is paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba). Alba and Union are executive producers on the series alongside Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and pilot director Anton Cropper.
The show’s second season was originally scheduled to premiere in June, but Spectrum postponed that to September in response to the wave of protests that erupted nationwide in response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day.
The first season of “L.A.’s Finest” is currently airing on Fox.

Spectrum has opted not to order a third season of cop drama L.A.’s Finest, an offshoot from the Bad Boys movie franchise headlined by Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, I have learned.
The decision comes a little over a month after the show’s second season launched on the platform. Spectrum had no comment.
Season 2 was originally scheduled to premiere on June 8, but was pushed to September amid the George Floyd protests against police brutality. All 13 episodes were released at once on September 9 as a weekly air pattern for Season 1.
The first season of L.A.’s Finest is currently airing on Fox, which acquired the series for its fall schedule that was impacted by the pandemic-related production shutdown. It got off to a solid ratings start though the numbers have slipped since.

The first season of “L.A.’s Finest” premieres Monday on Fox, more than two years after the now-Spectrum Originals drama’s pilot was passed on at NBC. And when the Gabrielle Union- and Jessica Alba-led police procedural finally makes its way to broadcast, it will, of course, be a broadcast-friendly version of the series.
So how much will Fox viewers be missing out on if they’re tuning in to Season 1 tonight versus streaming the original cut on the Charter Communications-owned platform? The answer here actually has more to do with run time issues versus inappropriate content.
“There were [changes that had to be made], but really that was one of the things I looked at strongly was it did have that broadcast sensibility at its core,” Dan Harrison, Fox’s EVP of program planning and content strategy, told TheWrap. “So yes, there are some Standards and Practices notes, but this is not bringing ‘The Sopranos’ to A&e,...

Spectrum Originals has delayed the season 2 premiere of “L.A.’s Finest” amid the nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism.
The “Bad Boys” spinoff was scheduled to return for its sophomore season on Monday with its first three episodes available, but has instead decided to push it back until later 2020, the network confirmed to TheWrap.
Since the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day, protests have erupted nationwide — and in many international cities — in all 50 states calling for police reform. Last week, A&e pulled new episodes of “Live Pd” from its schedule that were supposed to air over the weekend.

Exclusive: Orlando Jones has booked a recurring role opposite Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba in the second season of Spectrum’s L.A.’s Finest.
This is Jones’ first TV series casting following his two seasons on Starz’s American Gods as trickster god Anansi, aka Mr. Nancy. Jones made headlines recently, claiming he was fired ahead of Season 3 and alleging racial bias. Series producer Fremantle has insisted that Jones was not fired, but that the company decided not to pick up a third-season option on his contract because of the narrative focus of the upcoming season.
Union, who made her own headlines late last year with her controversial firing from the Fremantle-produced NBC reality series America’s Got Talent, triggering an investigation, was among the first to reach out to Jones after he revealed his ouster from American Gods on social media.

Spectrum Originals is making its first tentative move into docuseries ahead of the launch of Manhunt: Deadly Games and is eyeing its first Asian-American series.
Charter Communications’ original content division is prepping the launch of the Lionsgate-produced drama, which tells the story of the wrongly-accused Richard Jewell in this chronicle of the search for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Bomber, on February 3.
To coincide with this, the broadcaster is set to launch a short-form documentary series, Hunted, to coincide with the drama, which stars Jack Huston, Judith Light, Gethin Anthony, Kelly Jenrette and Cameron Britton.
Katherine Pope, who oversees the content division, told Deadline that it is set to air a six-part, short-form docuseries, produced by digital news brand Attn, consisting of episodes of six minutes to tell the “real story of the Atlanta bombing”. “That’s us dipping on our toes in [to docuseries] and we’d like to do more,” he said.

L.A.’s Finest, the female-led TV spinoff of the Bad Boys movies, will get another season on streaming platform Spectrum Originals.
L.A.’s Finest will see stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba continue their City of Angels-set buddy cop comedy for a second season.
Spectrum Originals, the Charter Communications-owned small screen platform on which L.A.’s Finest streams on demand, has officially renewed the series for Season 2. It’s a rather quick turnaround for the show – a spinoff of the Bad Boys films of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence – having only debuted on May 13, utilizing a rather unique release strategy of dropping a few episodes a week, rather than conventional strategies of weekly episodes or the Netflix full-season binge-dump. Indeed, the first season of L.A.’s Finest will premiere the last of its 13-episode run on Monday, June 17.

This comes after it launched on Charter Communications’ Spectrum in May with an unusual launch pattern; the first three episodes dropped on May 13 and the following ten episodes are being released in batches of two episodes at a time.
L.A.’s Finest, which is from writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, Sony Pictures TV, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and 2.0 Entertainment, also had an unusual pick up. It was originally piloted by NBC before Charter made it the company’s first original series.

“L.A.’s Finest” isn’t just a cop show. It’s a gambit — a bet placed by cable provider Spectrum that by providing not just access to HBO and Hgtv but original programming of its own, it’ll stand out. The series, a Jerry Bruckheimer production set within the universe of his “Bad Boys” film franchise, is the beginning of a stream of on-demand Spectrum Originals programming that will also include, eventually, a comeback for “Mad About You.”
The idea of providing some added value to subscribers through original programming is a reasonable enough one (why not get in a game with so many players already?). But this particular show seems ill-suited to its format: Meant to live on an on-demand platform, this drama seems oddly unlikely to have been specifically demanded by anyone at all. A tonally disastrous half-comedy, half-melodrama about policing that draws in cartel politics and family angst,...

Few shows on television feature woman leads that are also people of color — and even fewer in the action drama genre. Jessica Alba, Gabrielle Union, and the showrunners behind Charter’s Spectrum Originals maiden program “L.A.’s Finest” wanted that to change.
The new series is a spinoff of the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence franchise “Bad Boys.” This time around, the two “bad boys” are now women of color.
Union, who first signed onto the project, wanted Alba to co-star. “She’s boss as f—k. She’s badass as f—k,” Union told Variety at the premiere afterparty in Los Angeles.
Aside from her admiration of Alba’s “badassery,” Union thought it “means the world” to share lead roles with another Woc. She asked rhetorically, “If we’re only covering or reflecting a very, very small slice of life, who is it for?”

A year ago, Charter Communications’ new original content division headed by Katherine Pope made its first major programming move, picking up L.A.’s Finest as the maiden series for Charter’s platform Spectrum Originals. The Sony Pictures TV/Bruckheimer TV-produced drama starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, an offshoot from the Bad Boys movie franchise, started as a pilot at NBC last season, with Charter stepping in after the pilot did not go to series at the broadcast network.
Since then, Pope and her team have commissioned several other series including a Mad About You follow-up limited series with original stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt; an Atlanta Olympics bombing-centered second installment of the true-crime series Manhunt, whose first season, Unabomber, aired on Discovery; and British racing drama co-production Curfew.

Here’s the bad news: If you’re not one of Spectrum’s 14 million or so cable subscribers, you won’t be able to watch its first original series, the Bad Boys spinoff L.A.’s Finest. Or wait, actually, that might be the good news. Because L.A.’s Finest — premiering Monday, May 13 on Spectrum’s On Demand platform; I’ve seen the first three episodes — is a loud, dumb mess of a cop drama, loaded up with corny punchlines and incoherent plotting. So if you don’t have the ability to watch it… well, consider yourself lucky.

New details have emerged in last month’s stunt car crash on the set of La’s Finest that seriously injured co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier, who had to have his leg amputated below the knee. As previously reported, he and producing partner Brandon Margolis had been watching the scene unfold on video village monitors on the shoot’s set in San Pedro when a stunt car crashed into a metal shipping container, overturning it and pinning them beneath it.
“Witnesses reported that a stunt vehicle being pulled by a cable continued to roll after the stunt and struck the shipping container causing it to overturn and strike the victims,” Los Angeles Port Police chief Thomas Gazsi told Deadline in response to a public records request.
“On February 21, 2019, at approximately 1:30 pm, the Port Police responded to a report of an accident that has just occurred on the site of commercial filming...

A stunt on the set of L.A.’s Finest has taken a very real toll: Co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier had to have one of his legs amputated below the knee after a car stunt went horribly wrong on set.
Sonnier and his fellow executive producer/co-showrunner Brandon Margolis — who were both previously writers on NBC’s The Blacklist — were both injured in the accident last Thursday, our sister site Deadline reports. A stunt car crashed into a cargo crate, which then smashed into the “video village” area where Sonnier, Margolis and other producers were watching the stunt on monitors. Margolis...

Brandon Sonnier’s life was forever changed last Thursday when the L.A.’s Finest executive producer/co-showrunner, along with fellow Ep/co-showrunner Brandon Margolis, were injured on the set of the upcoming Spectrum/Sony Pictures TV series. Both were rushed to the hospital, but while Margolis was quickly released, Sonnier’s injury was so severe he had to have one of his legs amputated just below the knee, I have learned. He remains hospitalized, surrounded by family.
According to sources, Sonnier, Margolis and other producers were in the video village area on the San Pedro set, where they were watching a car stunt scene on monitors. A stunt car reportedly crashed into a cargo crate, with the container and/or the car smashing into the video village, which had been set up behind the crate. There was immediate fear for Sonnier’s leg as sources on the set indicated it may have been pinned.
