Dare2Draw is one of those cool events that I never want to miss and am always so happy after attending.
Founded by Charles David Chenet (now its Executive Director), Dare2Draw may seem like a comics-drawing class at first glance but it’s really so much more. In fact, this Saturday’s event will be celebrating the works and legacies of comic pioneers Will Eisner and Jack Kirby and celebrating their Centennial mark in the sequential arts.
Chenet describes this long-running organization as a mentoring, supportive and networking organization for artists of all levels. Dare2Draw is also designed to cultivate the awareness of and appreciation for the study of sequential art, and to the “furtherance and preservation of the comic book medium’s contributions to literacy, art, and culture, through outreach programs, events, and projects.”
I find these events to be invigorating. They are part drawing class, part lecture,...

Sheriff on Discovering Missing Woman ‘Chained like a Dog:’ ‘This is the Stuff You See in the Movies’
The South Carolina sheriff investigating the case of a missing woman rescued Thursday after allegedly being chained by her neck inside a metal storage container for two months described her survival as “a miracle.”

We've talked repeatedly about DaVinci's Demons, and been assured that the show will address DaVinci's sexuality at some point. In Cannes, David S. I expect it to be an extremely controversial episode, which I love.”

Now that Joe and his Followingers are happily nested in the Joe Carroll Dream House, the show - and Emma, in particular - seems to want to pretend that the previous seven weeks never happened. Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Stephen Amell is playing a Queen. Oliver Queen, to be precise, in the new CW action series Arrow. And while initial jokes about the character’s name may be juvenile, viewers will see in the pilot episode that this is not a kid’s comic book series. (Be warned, the Queen jokes are going to be coming much too easily.)
Based on the popular DC Comics character, Amell plays a billionaire playboy who had been written off as dead but returns very much alive with not only a jaw-dropping torso but with mystery shrouding what happened on the island where he had been living for five years. What we do know is that instead of all-night clubbing and partying he once indulged in, Queen is now focused on fighting crime (some possibly within his own family) and, bow and arrow in hand, dons a costume to become Arrow.

Last month, as the fate of ABC's Gcb hung in the balance, we were worried it would become a member of the "Gone Too Soon" club, TV shows that were snuffed out before they had a chance to flourish, or at least before we had a chance to grow tired of them.
Sadly, Gcb has gone to that big Upn in the sky, where it can run happily in the meadow with the likes of Firefly, Pushing Daisies, and Manimal.
While we mourn Gcb's loss, let's take a look at more shows that were ended too quickly. They were unappreciated at the the time, but they were either too good or too ... interesting ... not to have been offered the opportunity to flourish. Or flame out. Which is just as good.

The festival hit Judas Kiss, with a screenplay by Carlos Pedraza and directed J.T. Judas Kiss is the story of failed filmmaker Zachary Wells, who is convinced by his best friend and hotshot director Topher into replacing him as a judge in their film school’s annual festival. Zach’s one-night stand with a student backfires when that student walks into an interview the next morning calling himself Danny Reyes, the name Zach went by when he attended the school. Tepnapa, Carlos Pedraza Starring: Charlie David, Troy Fischnaller, Richard Harmon, Sean Paul Lockhart, Timo Descamps, Brent Corrigan, Genevieve Buechner, Dennis Bateman Zach's (Charlie David) Hollywood career has consisted thus far of parties and rehab; but he is convinced by Topher (Troy Fischnaller), his best friend and hotshot director, into judging their alma matter's annual film festival. That student goes by the name Danny Reyes (Richard Harmon) -- by no coincidence, that is also Zach's birth name, the very same name that Zach used while he attended Keystone 15 years ago. Oh, and Zach's Keystone Film Festival winning film from 15 years ago was also titled Judas Kiss. So,...

Horror maestro Tim Sullivan shares with doorQ.com his thoughts on his new Chillerama movie, the I Was A Teenage Werebear short, the Rising Star award for Sean Paul Lockhart (Brent Corrigan) and the best in Queer Fear. -Dqm

I got an interesting letter in the email yesterday from someone who claims to be a Bryan J. Freedman, an attorney who says he represents upcoming actor Colton Haynes, late of The Gates TV series and currently of MTV’s new Teen Wolf scripted, which debuts this weekend. What was interesting — and concerning — was that the letter said that doorQ.com had posted private, pornographic pictures of Mr. Haynes!
The letter said:
I am contacting you regarding [doorQ.com's]…postings of multiple private, obscene, lewd and pornographic photographs of my client, privately taken…depicting my client… partially or possibly completely nude, engaging in or simulating sexual conduct, in most instances with other individuals.
Ack, right? The letter went on to say that:

Wolfe Video has acquired the domestic rights to distribute "Judas Kiss," the first full-length independent feature from two filmmakers best known for their work in fan Star Trek productions. Wolfe will handle both video-on-demand and DVD rights for "Judas Kiss" in the United States and Canada. Another distribution company, Pro-Fun Media, will release the film to audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. "Judas Kiss" stars Charlie David and one-time "Caprica" actor Richard Harmon. It centers around a washed up film producer who earns a chance to get things right in a way that would make "The Twilight Zone" proud. As science-fiction fans, the concept is classic: What if you really did have a chance to fix the mistakes of your past. Would you do it? Could you do it? Hell, would you even recognize that you actually made mistakes in the first place? Those are the questions Carlos Pedraza posed in his screenplay for "Judas Kiss," an independent film starring Charlie David ("Dante's Cove"), Richard Harmon ("Caprica," "The Killing"), Sean Paul Lockhart ("Milk") and Timo Descamps ("Spring"). Pedraza, best known to genre fans for his work in online productions such as "Star Trek: New Voyages" and "Star Trek: Hidden Frontier," made a huge leap to the big screen ... and survived to tell about it. Magical realism hits gay film!
In Judas Kiss, a new film now playing the festival circuit, a washed-up filmmaker named Zachary (Charlie David) is talked into judging the student film festival where, 15 years previously, a movie of his made a big splash — a splash that ultimately led nowhere when he squandered his early buzz with bad personal and career choices. Zachary is so disappointed in himself and his past that he's even changed his name from "Danny Reyes."
But the night before the festival, he meets a hot college student named Danny (Richard Harmon), and the two have a torrid one-night stand. The next day, however, Zachary discovers a very disconcerting fact: the "Danny" he slept with is also named Danny Reyes — and he shares much else with Zachary, including the fact that the short film he's entered into the contest, Judas Kiss, is the...

The Phoenix Film Festival has picked Judas Kiss to screen in its opening weekend, in a primetime slot on Friday, April 1.
The event, which begins with an exclusive party the night before, is a partnership between the 11-year-old mainstream festival, Phoenix Pride and the Desperado Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
We’re thrilled that Judas Kiss’ screening is the result of a collaboration by these community organizations, and that our film gets such a great platform to attract a broad audience.
According to the Phoenix Film Festival website, Judas Kiss will screen at 7:25 pm on Friday, April 1, at the Harkins Scottsdale/101 Theatre 7.
Check out the listing and add it to your calendar if you’re attending the festival. Doing those things increases our “buzz” score on the festival website, which could bring more people to the screening. Right now, we’re No. 3 — help make us No. 1!

Now this is some real kissing in a music video.
Timo Descamps is mostly famous as a television actor in his native Belgium, but has been breaking out in music since placing third in Steracteur Sterartiest. And he's about to take center stage in America's gay film festival circuit in the indie science fiction film Judas Kiss, starring Charlie David, Brent Corrigan and Richard Harmon.
In advance of the film release, he's just put out the music video "Like It Rough" from the sound track. The video features both Descamps and Corrigan making out with movie costar Genevieve Buechner ... and each other.
The song has a very Eurovision sound to my ear, but visually, the video is interesting. And it certainly does its job of getting me more interested in the film. What did you think?

You don’t know how happy I am that they’ve scrapped plans to convert Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 to 3D in post production. They say it’s because they didn’t have time to do it right, but I’ve never seen a post production conversion that looked right, so they may have realized it was an unreasonable goal. Also, it saves me $4 on the matinee ticket.

July 1st is Canada Day, and we thought we'd take a moment to honor our friends to the north. Canada has always seemed like a friendlier version of the U.S., and is far ahead of us when it comes to marriage-equality. Plus they've given us such fabulous pop culture treasures as Sctv, The Kids In The Hall, Degrassi, Bumper Stumpers, You Can't Do That On Television and Ryan Reynolds.
Most importantly, they taught as that no one, no one! can take away our right to fight and to never surrender.
Canada can also be proud of their contributions to gay visibility, and we're spotlighting some of those men here. This is just a smattering of the out Canadians we admire, and feel free to add your own favorites.
Btw, we haven't forgotten about Canadian lesbian icons k.d. Lang and Tegan & Sara, but this list is just about dudes.

Brent Corrigan will star in the mainstream gay film "Judas Kiss", set to begin shooting in Seattle on August 13, 2010. Also starring is Charlie David of "Dante's Cove" and Richard Harmon of the Syfy Channel's hit show "Caprica." The film is scheduled to start the film festival circuit in January 2011.
"Judas Kiss" is about taking risks, seeking second chances, and finding the inspiration to succeed in an ever-evolving gay society. This is Brent's breakout role and he is already pouring himself into developing his character.
Four years in development, the screenplay is written by Carlos Pedraza and J.T. Tepnapa, already veteran filmmakers. The quality of their work is apparent on their You Tube Channel. Tepnapa, an award-winning director of short films, will direct Judas Kiss.
Principal funding by private investors to shoot the film on location in Seattle is nearly secured, though investment units for funding post-production costs are still available.

Frumpy maternity wear? Not for Amy Poehler!
While walking the red carpet at the 14th Annual Webby Awards, the Parks and Recreation star, who’s expecting her second child in early fall, sparkled — literally — in a fab Lbd.
But what really gave her head-to-toe black ensemble a boost were her black satin heels with a Swarovski crystal platform from Rene Caovilla ($1220).
Love her glamorous look? You’re in luck. We’ve rounded up a similar style — with items all under $85!
